Quote from Hyperactive :That's just an assumption. And pretty crazy one considering there are better sounding racing games on ps2 than gt5.

This video is from gtplanet forums:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HkyrjBbW8I

PS3 you mean?

Well from what I can tell GT5 only uses 2 base samples, and short ones at that, and pitches them up down. And you have 16 cars, which all have their sounds stored in ram, since you can switch between them instantly unlike say Forza, from what I've been told has a delay, to load the sounds when you switch. Plus some extra layers for ambience, wind etc

Most PS3 car games don't have 16 cars on track

On the PC say GTR series and Shift etc, they use at least 3 base samples, on throttle low, mid and high RPM range. Then the same for off throttle in each rev range. I've seen GTR car samples range from 20-50+ MB in size, per car

Pretty large, not something you can do on the PS3 when you have 256MB of ram, and most of that goes to the graphics, physics, AI.
Part of that is used by the OS as well.
Don't know what portion PD is using for sound, but it's a matter of priorities. Maybe 10MB for all 16 cars...

Quote from Matrixi :That's a sarcastic joke, I take it?

No, I can hear a pretty similar character

Off course no game will sound exactly like real life, considering it's a dyno recording vs a camera mic in a different environment.
I do music/sound, with expensive speakers, I know my crap

Quote from Matrixi :Forza devs record their sounds on a dyno and push the engines at different load levels, PD still do it (atleast in GT5) only by free revving the engines without load. If anyone knows better, please do correct me.

Still not sure if I'm even going to buy GT6, maybe once it hits the bargain bin.

Not really, I've seen then recording engine sounds on a dyno, even Kaz confirmed so. They just don't have a lot of memory to play around with doing it the traditional way like in other games.
So tiny samples and not enough of them, but some cars are better than others.

Lexus ISF (stock) sounds quite like the real thing for instance

Kaz said they're working on a new way to generate sounds - which may or may not end up at launch, but might get patched in.
Some speculate it will be a more algo orientated system

Spa at night, with volumetric clouds - will be interesting to see them move and how rain will form - no more texture skyboxes
Don't know how they are doing this on a PS3 which has 256MB video ram....

And I hope I can put all the different kind of fancy wheels on all the cars in the game, if I can have that I'm happy

Should be able to, there is no distinction between premiums and standards this time around
And you can paint them

Quote from atledreier :CFD.... I'm guessing they have generated some more lookuptables using CFD, maybe....

Can't imagine they are using CFD aero in realtime on a PS3?

Don't know, but they did show a bit of that animation in the trailer

More stuff - I'm not sure where it's originally from, just quoting some guy

Quote :In Gran Turismo 6, we have collaborated with leading companies in the racing scenery such as Yokohama Rubber and KW Automotive as technical partners. Insight and data for developing real cars in the partnership has been fed back into the physics model which governs the dynamics and behavior of the cars in the game.

Tyre Model
Through the cooperation with Yokohama Rubber, a variety of tyres ranging from “Racing” to “Street” were analyzed. Detailed information and data not available to us until now have been integrated in the tyre model: the tyre structure, compound, load and changes in cornering force due to the slip angle have been captured, analysed and introduced in our new model. This made possible to create a new “tyre contact” feeling and a level of precision never reached before.

Suspension Model
KW Automotive is a company that has an extremely strong impact in the Nürburgring 24 hour race. Using their 7 post rig, a huge amount of information has been collected for springs and dampers, and we have incorporated this into the suspension model. Gains due to changes in surface input and differences in phases were recreated in detail, having the player experiencing the same feeling the driver has in a real car.

2
Aerodynamics
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is a tool that is fundamental today in vehicle development and motorsports. We have introduced this into the game to greatly increase the precision of aerodynamics characteristics under a variety of conditions. Changes to downforce due to the body shape, parameters of the under floor as well as differences in speed are recreated realistically, allowing you to experience the complex world of aerodynamics. Our new physics simulation has improved by leaps and bounds, and you will notice the difference as soon as you turn the steering wheel.

Stuff that will be added in future updates:

B Spec

The B spec mode is a mode where you give precision instructions to your driver as a race director. This popular feature from previous versions of GT will be added in a future update. Look forward to the new, more powerful B Spec mode.

Course Maker

This feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content.

Data Logger

This feature allows you to analyse your saved replay data to show Speed, Engine RPM, Throttle Input, Gear Position, Steering Angle, etc. in a graphical format. This feature will be added in a future update.

GPS Visualizer
In a future update, we will add the GPS Visualiser. This is a feature that allows you to import Controller Area Network (CAN), used to regulate automobile systems, and GPS coordinate data from a real life car into Gran Turismo 6, and visualise the data as a replay in the game. The feature is planned to be compatible with the Toyota Motor Corporation’s CAN-Gateway ECU.

Gymkhana stuff back in

finally wheel size upgrades - and judging by the scroll bar, a lot more wheels

Body Repairs...

damn some cars have detailed underbodies, unlike the flat bottom of GT5

Not the final build of GT6 in these videos, just the old prototype demos doing the round of game shows

The Pagani doesn't have an engine sound, they removed whatever it had there before - just a place holder for now. All you can hear is the turbo and blow off valve
They have a new sound engine system in the works, but it will probably be patched in after release. Unless it's already done - but PD have not released any info and only a month to go...

Well I'm well on my way to finishing GTA 5, I got bored with GTA 4 and only made it too 25% or so I think and then never touched it again after I had my fill of the street violence which is the same everytime with less interactivity than 5.

Better characters and story - the main thing in the game

I can park properly in GTA 5, even cruise slowly and stay in lanes. I always end up smashing my car in GTA 4 when I try the same

GTA 4 looks like junk, I feel GTA 5 is much better here. GTA 4 was all brown looking...

There was a demo station with Bathurst at Harvey Norman (Bathurst)
Seems physics are quite different in this build

Quote :The guys that played it had a far go. One guy got his car well up on 2 wheels going threw turn one

Quote :Hey glad to see someone on here was there!
I work there, I ended up having about a 20min go. Looks & feels really good!
Track doesn't feel tight while racing but we were only doing time trials without any other cars.
The sony rep who brought it was taking it back after close & said he didn't know if there was any stall for it up at the mountain this weekend.
No one got a copy of it, The winner of the comp is getting a copy of GT6...when it gets released. I took a couple of videos of the guys racing & will try & upload them in the next few days!

Quote :I hit the curbs too hard a few times & rolled aswell.
The brakes felt a lot different to GT5 & even the GT academy demo, all aids were off except abs on 1 & felt like it was locking the rears on hard braking. Felt very different but a big improvement I think.

Online had the weight of the fuel factored in.

Well we don't know much of anything in GT6, the game isn't finished yet, they are scrambling to get systems done!
They have another month before it goes gold.

PD have been fairly secretive this time around

Honestly it is pretty narrow in real life. Like public roads are, but feels even more so when in car

And here is where someone caught the PD crew scanning (Laser/GPS?) and surveying the track 1.5 years ago. There was a helicopter flying around around as well
