Quote from Tweaker :If you want your skin "private", don't upload it to LFSW, simple as that. If you only want a few trusted people to see it, give it to them personally.

Problem solved.

Skin protection has been discussed in depth before, there is just no secure way of doing it and while keeping the system as simple as it already is. In the end it will all be a waste of time to code... Arguing over someone using your private skin online???? Come on, it can't get any lamer than that, it's just a skin.

What if we want everyone to see it without them using it...

... problem not solved!

Quote from Fetzo :hehehe, uhm ok. when S2 is final in 2 years i will really be looking forward to this pack (yes i actually forgot that one) .

Obviously you don't like rallycross at all, so i will excuse your ignorance. i guess broad tarmac track aren't boring, eh? we have so many of them already!

or do you prefer tight boring mud tracks?

Imho there are not enough decent rallycross tracks (imho FE5 is very bad), but the lack of decent rallycross cars is even more bad.

[yoda again: I see very bad thing I do, LFS drivers are turning to the dark side of the force.]

How 'bout.. More tracks of everykind... loads of em!

Im sure it would be hard (Unless Scawen can recreate the Doom3/F.E.A.R engine in RaceSim Form.) But I think it's possible!

Hell... I would live to even see cracks in wall barriers created from a direct head on crash in a BF1 at 220 mph on KY1 using the very same concept!

Must be hard and impractical for a race sim... but I give this a +100000000

Quote from tristancliffe :People are moaning about the fps hit of a cockpit, so I don't think the majority of people want more graphical toys that will further reduce it.

Some, if not all of the above are doable in 8.1 afaik anyway.

Im sure LFS could possibly even include and option for Cocpit Detail Levels?

Quote from tristancliffe :
Edit: Don't assume because of this reply I wouldn't like to see DX9 introduced, just that it's not the big "Game Finisher" people seem to think it is.

Pretty much agree!

Quote from Tweaker :I think even with DirectX 9, LFS could probably BENEFIT from having that engine, regardless if it wasnt using any of the DX9 features that DX8 doesn't have. Personally I think LFS would have an FPS increase for users with DX9 cards (and I am sure the majority of us have those). For how simple and bland LFS looks, FPS sure isn't very 'good' compared to the pimped out DX9/DX10 games using proper hardware. Hell even on autocross, systems that play DX9 games at very high FPS suffer in DX8 LFS Auto-x. I just don't understand why it has to be this way.

Perhaps it is a very crude graphics engine that doesn't make use of any DX9 powered cards... feels more 'raw' than anything else. I am sure LFS could run so much smoother if it was optimized and could be run under DX9. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see that happening, and it will always be behind in this department. I think Scawen has the most experience with DX8 games, since that is the engine he is most familiar with even with his other previous games. Not sure if he has looked at DX9+ at all, but I hope he has... and hope it is easy to pick up on when the time comes.

Using the whole "dds" stuff under DX8 just doesn't feel like there is any gain from it. I think Scawen really needs to utilize such features for textures when there is actually a better renderer in place of DX8.... else it just doesn't feel like it helps.

I mean, newest games have all these crasy AA, AF, blurring, reflections, lighting, etc... and they still can run fine with the proper hardware. Yet LFS has very rudimentary graphics and can be hurt in some occassions... like with smoke and LOD issues. And LFS is still very low detail out of the box. Not just its textures, but also the car models and other objects are very low poly.

Yes.. but..

Lfs doen't make full use of its DX Version yet!!!

+ Its textures are fine, the only lacking in the current LFS is bumpmapping + Specularmapping + Reflactionmapping + lightmapping + grilled chees sandwiches!

Quote from JTbo :What is optional?

Various games and sims allow you to choose wich DirectX version to run!

Im sure there wouldn't be too much trouble to allow multiple versions of DirectX in LFS!

Look at the Geoff Crammond sims for example (Im primarily a BF1 driver, naturaly i'd suggest him lol)

I found on Wikkipedia comparisons between different versions of online race sims! (unsure of link... use wikki's search)

It said that LFS had SNOW/ICE for internal testing only!

So from what I see, LFS is probably->definitly going to have something like that!

Quote from Speedy Pro :What about Blackwood on the exit out of T1/T2 (the last right turn just before the main straight)? All the quick guys run the 2 left wheels on the kerb, while the right wheels are in the air. When taken "right", they almost don't lose any speed at all doing this jumping. Though F10 shows a little bit of suspension damage every time you do this manouvre. Maybe it's just me, but it really bugs me how the cars remain intact while doing this lap after lap. I always try to take the clean line (right wheels on the edge of the kerb), but I realize that I'm scrubbing a bit of exit speed doing this.

If driving the BF1... over those curbs... move over 'inside' 4 more inches... you will love to see what happens!

I have a habbit of cutting corners where I shouldn't , and thats why I dont do endurance races in BF1, Im alway 6 inches too tight! ... F1 suspensions arent designed for that!

The only car that neads TC is BF1.. because realisticly IT USES TC!

How many drivers can handle BF1 without TC?(besides that ugly red ferrari driver).

Otherwise. NO AIDS unless the perticular car absalutly requires it! (or unless the track becomes SOPPINGWET or COVERED IN ICE!!!!!!!) <-- lol

EDIT: Perhaps only add aids for Keyboarders!

people aren't gonna try to extract a skin from memory! Thats too much effort!

The idea is to simply prevent them from ever actually having someones 'personal skin' in hand in original state!

I guess MD5 could be a great way to encode files, using some LFSW generated value as the 'key'!

I double someone will try to break open and MD5 hash encoded file either, they would build ther own skin's 10x over before they get past that!

DirectX 9 = better visuals!

Bump Mapping
Specular Mapping
PROPER shadow casting! (screw them vectored shadows/shadow mapping)

Better lighting. (btw, dynamic daytime lighting [day/night] please)

Volumetric Effects...

etc.....

1:

Instead of using server space limited to 45 stored skins, why not replace the entire skin DL system with a P2P (Peer2peer) system!

This way, skins wont ever have to be stored on a central server, they will simpy be cross-transfered between drivers (peers)!

And along with all the other benifits of P2P technology etc. yadda yadda!

BUT....

Some of us want our skins visible but not shared!

There is alot of drivers that want to show off their skinwork WITHOUT someone else slapping it onto their car!

So, if possible, downloaded skins should be encrypted (Like the default skin textures in FlightSim2004/X etc for aircraft models!)

The DL textures for skins declared as PRIVATE would be unviewable in an image viewer because the data in the JPG/DDS is encrypted!

Encryption keys for these files could be tied in with LFSUsernames or whatever else could be used to decrypt the files when they nead to be loaded again! Its possible to do this in memeory without leaving an exposed 'valued' skin around!

I think this would be nice. I have skins I want to use on track, but I dont want anyone EVER getting a hold of the files! Im pretty sure teams will want to privatize their skins too!

Just a pleady suggestion!

A cracked version of S2 can connect to demo.

But it cannot connect to S1-S2 servers !

Offline they will have ALL the cars if they crack it offline, but ONLY offline!

And driving against the AI (in the current terrible state the AI are in) is pointless!
....

Thats the facts as they are now.

They dont have a true S2 experience becaus they'r not racing on S1/S2 servers!

A cracked version of LFS will bore you in my opinion!

Its easier to simply pay for the sim. The price is right for a lifetime license, and low cost upgrades!

(compared to RFactor's useless licensing (Max 5 activations, ever-then buy new license? thats retarded!)

So simple anser is... DO NOTHING : because they really dont get much out of the cracked version! (they dont get the S2 'ONLINE' experience anayway)

Quote from Slopi :Sadly, the bulk of the racers are from Europe. This means that server activity is based on their time zones, not the US's. Also, it doesn't help that LFS isn't on store shelves in the US (Yes, I know it's not complete), cause it seems that the average US gamer wont know about a game unless it's advertised to death on TV and online before it's released.

So, what you're left with is a bunch of euro racers and a handfull of Americans. Just have to plan accordingly is all

Before the W30+ patches there were always at least 15 servers running with at least 100 drivers!

But now there is nothing! I am running w43!

I reeeaallly wish the AI would make pitstops because I want to practice offline with 300 lappers in BF1 and so on!

It's annoying to see the AI simply run out of fuel stupidly and just roll to a stop in the middle of the track!
