Racers will only get 2 10 lap races to qualify and the points from these will decide which division they go in however i quite like the idea of yours to just let people turn up as it would be far less work.
I am running 2 servers and this problem is now showing itself up on one of them
This server "[CD] ConeDodgers Racing" is always busy bit I have noticed that its only happens when the server is full or almost full and never when there are say 15 racers on
If this is client related should it not happen all the time?
In the week starting on Oct 16th 06 the first qualifyers for the LFS: GTR League will be run. Details in the league section or join at www.conedodgers.co.uk
From all who have joined so far, several ask the same question, that is as the FZR is that much faster than the FXO and XRR how can i make it fairer.
In the real world slower cars have to run with faster cars and to be fair i see a lot of FXO and XRR's winning races but not qualifying. If the FXO was faster than the FZR would we all not use it.
What we need is a handicap system and i am sure the devs are aware of that, but at the moment there is not one in LFS.
My question is does anyone have a good idea of a workable handicap system that can be used in the new league.
URGENT INFORMATION We need your help to decide the best way to sort out qualifiers. Please do not post here but goto the League section to get all the details and post is that section http://www.lfsforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=75 Thanks
For all those drivers who have registered and those not yet registered but would like to take part IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Since last Saturday (30/9/06) the [CD] Conedodgers Racing server has been recording each racers fastest lap and these can be seen on the website at /conedodgers/stats.html Although doing a single fast lap in no way says that the driver is a great racer over a race distance it was thought that it would give us a method of grading drivers to see which division they will be in for the new league. The LFS: GTR League will race our new private server which will be found under [CD] ConeDodgers Racing 2. Anyone using this server must be a competent driver and poor driving or causing a nuisance will not be acceptable. The password will be sent to anyone who registers on the website in an email giving you access to the server when it is not being used for the league. Anyone who has not registered for the league that is found on the server will get an instant ban so please register as soon as you can. During the first 5 days of the [CD] ConeDodgers Racing server going live 575 racers recorded times below 2 minutes, 373 of these were below 1.46 (1.45.99 or lower) and with this in mind we think its fair to say that if you cannot do a lap below 1.46 your should practice both offline and in online races on our public server before taking part in the league. The last thing we all want is an inexperienced driver getting the blame for a huge T1 pile up or even worse causing one. It was my idea that I simply sort the times in order and the fastest go into Division 1 and so on but with over 575 times now recorded in just 5 days it will be impossible to sort out as these are recorded using Nicknames rather than the LFS Username. LFSLapper will only record Nicknames at the moment. While watching the 100’s of races on the server it is obvious that all races are won by drivers who are consistant and that just don’t give up. The winner is often several seconds off the pace from the fastest lap time set during the race. There have been loads of races where a driver does one great lap out of the 10 and then messes up only to finish way behind or not at all. Drivers of FXR and XRR win many races yet it’s always a FZR that seems to clock up the fastest lap. I order to get the league off to a good start we need you thoughts on the best way to qualify as clearly using the fastest time is impossible. To date we have about 25 registrations but loads of drivers say thay will register closer to the closing date. The CLOSING DATE has now been moved to October 15th 2006, after this any application will go into the reserve list I ask that you PLEASE REGISTER TODAY or ASAP at www.conedodgers.co.uk as we think we can only handle 5 divisions (100 racers) MY IDEA is to hold qualifiying races between October 16th and October 20th for all those who have registered. 20 randomly chosen registered racers will be emailed and invited to complete in 2, 10 lap races each with a pit, one after the other so it should take less than 40 minutes. The grid will be random so you can blame LFS if you are at the back. Each race will score the the same points as the league and the highest scores (added together) will go into D1, the next into D2 and so on down to D5 In order to get your qualifying slot you MUST REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE at http://www.conedodgers.co.uk. If there is a day and time that suits you please enter it in the comments on the webform but we cannot promise anything. If you have a better idea, please take into mind that I do this in my spare time and sorting through 575 Nicknames trying to match them to Usernames is not an option. Please place your ideas here. Thanks
Franky has just finished trying it but cannot get it to work and CrazyIce has told me that LFSRacingGuard will not work with another insim applications so it looks like we are stuffed.
Becky's has told me LFSCompanion will not work as Lapper is on the server and LFSC is on my PC
My server is one of 500Servers and Franky has tried to set it up using LFSW Insim relay but it does the same. I think Specator does the same in that it will not work while lapper is running.
I have found the Python one and will send it to Franky to see if it works
I can't sort out the dates until i have the numbers. I think i can run a maximum of 5 divisions D1 to D5. so thats a maximum of 100 racers, as some drop out other may join but at the lower divisions so the earlier you signup the higher you may be.
My idea is that once i have the numbers and have sorted them out i will email all invited in D1 asking which day they prefer. Once they have chosen i will email D2 and so on. Poor old D5 will get whats left.
I also would like to add the fastest 3 XRR and 3 FXR drivers into D1 to mix it up a bit at the start but once running it will all be on points to who goes where.
If you have any ideas please tell me as i want the league to fit in with you all.
I have worked out that at the rate people are signing up i will be in Division 21 with my crap laptime.
All i can say is please signup ASAP so i can get an idea of numbers
I have the Commands pdf file but several of the commands are not in it also as my server uses LFSLapper the insim post is being used and as far as i am aware you can only use one insim application at a time so RaceGuard and Browse for Speed cannot be used
If i could find a way to use Lapper and RaceGuard my problems would be far less
First thanks for the comments and for beating me so many times yesterday....... Ahhhhhhh
If you dont mind i will leave it as it is for a few days and watch how many join the league. As more join the higher the target time will go, in fact it may be an idea to also do a "starters League" outside the LFS: GTR League as we all have to learn racecraft somewhere and it better if the slower cars are on their own.
Finally, do me a favour and let me win just once..
The idea is to have several divisions from fast to slow, that way the slower drivers get to race on thier own and the faster drivers get some good racing which is what we all want.
I do think you are right that setting a limit may force slower drivers to practice when not in a race but by the look of the numbers this may be about 1.49
As some may have noticed I have setup a new server called [CD] ConeDodgers Racing ready for the new Aston National based LFS: GTR League on which is now taking registrations at http://www.conedodgers.co.uk. The server has LFS Lapper fitted so records racers fasted time and stores it, the idea being that racers would have to hit a target time to join the league. As the league is open to all and not to exclude the slowest drivers I set lapper to record anyone faster than 1.59 I just thought you may be interested in the stats. Over the weekend (30th Set – 1st Oct) 340 racers recorded times faster than 1.59. You can see these stats on the website or by going to http://www.conedodgers.co.uk/conedodgers/stats.html. The Best recorded time was 1.40.07 (wish it was me) with the highest recorded section being in the 1.43’s where there were 57. As I am new to server admin I found it difficult to keep up with the requests and chat. I did kick 1 or 2 and warned others but its difficult when you can’t get on your own server to see what’s going on. As the new league looks as if it’s going to be popular I would ask any driver who wants to take part to register their interest as soon as possible on the website as we may have to limit numbers. I would like to thank everyone who came and the developers for such a great simulation.
My question is does anyone have any tips to help with server race admin
