Wait, if you're being lapped, then you're not racing for position. "If the other guy has a faster car he'll overtake you on the straights"? No, not necessarily - he may be going faster in the corners and his advantage on the straights may be tiny. Whatever the case may be, if you're a back-marker you should slow the front runners as little as possible. I just don't get what you're complaining about. Its not as if you lose position if you let the guy through. illepall

Sorry for the delay on this. I just got my LFS unlocked again (Windows reinstall). Because of the late layout, I've tried to affect people's lines as little as possible. People should have no trouble avoiding these tyres. They won't severely damage you but they will cause you to lose time so I think this is best. I need to get a hold of James to get it on the server though.

I've got a pair of Sennheizer HD-595's (no Mic). In all honesty, LFS sounds better on my Creative 4400's. These Senn's are said to have a great sound-stage etc. (and for listening to music they really are on another level compared to most speakers). Maybe its something to do with having my Creatives' subwoofer on the floor behind my pedals and things like that that just make it feel that little bit more immersive with speakers. Having said that, I do hear tyre sounds much more accurately on my headphones so I drive better with them.

Quote from abz1 :Every time I switch out of LFS (shift + F4) and return back into the sim my wheel needs recalibrating again. I don't remember having this problem in patch U.

Microsoft sidewinder ff wheel

You just need to enable calibration lock (once you have it calibrated) under Controls -> Axes/FF.

I was thinking about this and its probably a good idea. I'm about to go out soon so I can't do anything about this until tomorrow afternoon.
Event Schedule change for event 5?

I just looked at the event schedule again and the 19th and 23rd of December are getting a bit too close to Christmas for many, I think. Would you like to have these races moved to the dates of event 6 and have the whole calendar shifted forward one week?

Its up to you guys, but looking at it now, it doesn't seem as good an idea as it did at the time of making the schedule. If more than half of the racers would like to see it changed, then we will do the change. If not, then we'll leave it as it is.

Maybe you just rely too much on your speedo when you drive which is now inaccurate so you can't really rely on it. Only time I look at my speedo is on a straight when there's wind... and when I'm setting up a car's gearing. You shouldn't be looking at the speedo through corners. You'll go much faster without it. You can see the shift light with peripheral vision.

Quote from Vain :...until you join a full grid of cars.
The fps are very jumpy. On some sections you get fewer than 50% of the fps you get in other places. Put in 20 cars at such spots and suddenly LFS doesn't run that smooth anymore at all.

Vain

I don't think you can do much about that at all TBH. This will happen in any sim. Apart from having "mip-map" style thing of the mesh rendering it with a different number of polys depending on distance, I can't think of many ways to improve it.

I'd like to just note that the website was updated yesterday with the new standings etc, and there have been infringement reports added to the infringement thread. Once the deadline for those has passed, the site will be updated again.

Quote from AndroidXP :Because replays only store the player's inputs. If you watch a replay, it uses the current physics engine and feeds it with the stored inputs. If you have the same physics engine as at the time the replay was recorded, you will get the same result upon watching it.

If the physics change only one tiny bit, the replay will go OOS (out of sync) and it will be broken. Thus, the still working replays are the ultimate proof the physics have not changed.

I think they also store position or something like that too, to which the physics results are compared and if that doesn't match, then you get the OOS error. Otherwise you have no way of knowing if you're in sync or not because you have nothing to compare it to.

AFAIK, LFS will be getting a graphics update once S2 final is out - ie, in the first official S2 Final patches. Right now the focus is probably AI, sound, physics and improvements to netcode to support larger grids.

Quote from scoobyrbac :Yeah well...There is some things that need to be better....Like tyre smoke without use the smokemod would be nice like in S2 they can view everyones skins..be nice if they can do that in the demo...and change the cars up some..becaus those 3 cars get boring and there slow....and a couple more track selections...

You're kidding, right? Firstly smoke is something that has a huge hit on FPS on lower-end graphics cards so while the devs are aware that there isn't enough smoke in most circumstances, they are doing this for the sake of performance.

Secondly, if you pay money - £24 is all you need - you'll get the rest of your requests.

Sadly we had a relatively poor turn-out tonight with only 11 racers starting and 9 finishing. I was having a good battle with Primoz before I hit a hay bale and rolled my car. Thanks again, to Hannu for racing for vMax in the absence of Rob.

Anyway, here are results from tonight's race:

Event 3 - Special Endurance Event
Date: 02.12.2006
Track: Kyoto
Configuration: GP Long Reversed
Weather: Cloudy Morning, Low Wind
Laps: 30 laps

Format for registering your drivers:
Team name
LX4 Driver - Name (LFS license)
LX6 Driver - Name (LFS license)

Special rules regarding corner cutting: a special layout has been made using hay bales to prevent corner-cutting, mostly in the first sector. People who are seen to consistently bump these hay bales will be penalised in points or otherwise. Racers seen intentionally abusing missing bales due to them having been hit by other racers will also be penalised.

Sorry I was late with this thread, I didn't realise I'd forgotten to make it. I'd also like to note that passwords might come through a little later than usual tomorrow - maybe even around half an hour before the event.

Just as a little thought, you need some kind of energy to go into producing sound. This is energy that can make you turn, so with racing tyres you'd try minimise the energy going into whatever else and just focus on turning.

Site: LFS-Database, Setupfield - can't pick one over the other, it depends on your nedes
Team: Quite likely, T7R - they're a great friendly bunch of fast racers.
League: I'd say STCC in terms of administration etc. They're doing a cracking job in getting the league "out there". I dream of getting LXCC to that level one day but first, we must get our server issues sorted .
Application: Has to be LFS-stats. That thing is simply awesome.
Person: Todd Wasson. Durr.

Quote from kamo2000 :I think it's time to update vmax webstie with the results..

James has had the Round 2 results since yesterday. I'll shout at him later. We can't put up the Round 3 results before we have seen that there are no infringements etc. A couple of incidents have already been reported to me.
