The online racing simulator

But even in this situation, I still play LFS now and then, due to the crapy sims that are out there...none can satisfy me like LFS does and i dont have that much money to waste in Iracing. The only problem is that theres very litle good servers to race on these days.....all i see is cruise , drift, and demo servers.......very few like cargame S2.........i also miss CTRA badly!!

Well...its a shame...realy

I am in the same situation....
Quote from JBiturbo :I used to think that about a YEAR AND A HALF ago!!

And when the patch comes out ( if it does at all ) i think it will not bring any more then what scawen anouced ( tyre phisics, VW and the Rock track ). It can, maybe, bring just a litle perk here and there, but nothing big like another car or track or night time and rain.

Like i said a few weeks ago, i already gave up on the waiting....LFS disapointed me and alot of fans out there, because 2 years and a few months for 1 track, 1 car and some new phisics its not something worth waiting for that long.

But even in this situation, I still play LFS now and then, due to the crapy sims that are out there...none can satisfy me like LFS does and i dont have that much money to waste in Iracing. Like "KSA Land" said, rockingham is NOT and never was included in the patch. The official content is JUST physiX and the VWS, but im having a hard time believing that Scavier wouldnt add some bug fixes and minor tweaks at other parts of LFS while their at it.

Ivé heard some talking about "limited setups" options but if its going to be realeased in this patch or in S3 i dont know... hell i dont even know if its going to be released at all.

The bad server thing is nothing you can blame LFS delveloplment for, thats the players doing what they want. You can always sign up for a league or something, i play in a league once a week and i experience great racing with top quality drivers and in a great racing atmosphere.

The only way you can get some good racing is by stop whining about it and go where the good/serious drivers are, instead of waiting for them to come to you.
Quote from JBiturbo :[...]some new phisics[...]

See, there's your logic error... You can't just do "some physics", because if it is only "some" then you might as well not start in the first place as you will get something worse out of it than what you've started with... Rubber doesn't behave like most objects, it has very specific and quite unique tendencies... So, in order to replicate this odd behaviour you have to first put a big effort on research and then you have to translate it to a language a computer can work with...

Add to that there are only a handful of guys in the world who truly understand tyres, and they are all working for tyre manufacturers and they all have signed big non-disclosure agreements... Even racing teams often have just a rudimentary knowledge - they get the specs from their contacts and make it work for their car, and that's it...

But if you think tyre physics are that simple: I dare you to do the first step only and list all the unique characteristics of tyres right here, let's see how long it takes you just for that...
bbman - i dont thinks tyre physics are easy.......but i do think 2 years is more then time to develop them. I see complete games beeing made in 2 years, some of them very complex....but i also know that you cant compare a simulation game with a strategy game for exemple.
The big problem here is that LFS has a very small developers team.....and if that wasnt the only problem, they only take LFS as a "2nd job"....so yes im still disapointed. Im disapointed cause this is the best simulator out there and its in this situation.

AcesHigh - Im not whining man, its more like a confession....and i already participated in some champs, i raced in ITCC, GTAL, Masters of Endurance, OLFSL, IGTC, and the Desire of Patiente Tour ( wich btw, our team won the 24 hours in NGT ) , so i know what you mean . But have you noticed these leagues aren´t what they used to be? I just think something is missing from LFS nowadays .
About the track not beeing a part of the new upcoming patch, my bad, i thought it was( so it even worst the terrible wait )......

Sorry about the english, and please notice that im just speaking what its on my mind, not whining.......
This is truly turning into a major problem.
I'm not one to whine, and I have plenty of things to spend my time on besides LFS. But when I take out some time to log onto LFS, mostly I see the top 4 of 6 servers are cruise servers. Outside the top 6, there's <10 players online.
The other top 2 servers are the ONLY servers that are actually populated at a given time with real racers.

I miss the diversity of public servers The only way to get some good racing with LFS today is private leagues, but I'm too busy for that.
Well thanks for sparing me the effort of getting my wheel to my new place to try LFS after 3 years' break. Things sound pretty shitty.
Things are not shitty, there are just big room for improvement imo.

As far as we know Scawen doesn't have other job. Even if Eric had, I think it doesn't affect that much the current release schedule.
I can hardly believe that you can make a living out of this. There are not that many licenses being sold every month I am afraid.
Quote from deggis :As far as we know Scawen doesn't have other job.

As far as I know Scawen worked for QI Creations in 2005 and developed another project there (at the same time he worked on the development of S2).

I can only suppose that now is no different. LFS is a second job for Scawen, we have to accept it.

He is only credited (Rag Doll Kung Fu) in "special thanks" section after "Everyone who helped at Lionhead Studios". And he left Lionhead in 2001. I think you are wrong.

I think it is partly due to LFS structure as a game. It is halfway between a sandbox game (layouts, InSim, the freedom of skins and setups) and halfway between a set-in-stone game (fixed number of cars, fixed tracks, etc).

As such, it's hard for the players to find new stuff to do in game. It's hard partly because developing an innovating InSim require quite a bit of ressources to provide something fresh to the players.

I think it's up to the players to make up some fresh new content for the game (given what's available today). Instead of doing "me too" servers and ideas, like every drift team having its own server for example (no offense ), players should try and find innovative way to freshen the content of the game.
How Long we wait now?
now my question: is LFS dead?

I hope not.. I just got my S2 license last week
I think Scawen is working to provide a patch before the end of the year but i'm afraid it wont bring back many of the folks who have moved to other sims
Don't fret. Master server and forums/lfsw are still operational. Move on people.
Every week another idiot comes to this topic and asks if LFS is dead. It's just so hilarious.
Yeah, because the progression in at least communication to the LFS community is improving every week.
**** me, is this thread STILL rumbling on?
Yeah i know ... for a year people are talking on and on about the same thing . Pity though, that there hasn't been any nice progress report(if there is any progress at all?). Scawen... how's goin? Do You think You will make it this year? Yeah, sure i don't care anymore like i cared before, i'm just curious. I'm just simply playing other games(but not car sims... couse well.. LFS.. is still the best imo, but i'm slightly bored by it).

1:
Scawen has made various posts around the forum - use the search function and read them for your bloodly reports unless you want to remain ignorant.

Alternatively go to his profile.

2:
Curiousity = Caring , you wouldn't be curious if u didn't care. The same applies to a woman - it is like saying " I hate her, I dont care about her - by the way , I'm curious if she is still in hospital". That is caring. You care enough to poke your nose here to say you dont care.

3:
There is progress - refere to #1.

4:
Slightly Bored = Bored Stiff - you need some coffee, 'pot', a porn mag and some grass.

5:
-- you are making the eyebrows in my avatar twitch . look carefully.

OmG, open your eyes have you seen some new posts from scawen?
Quote from marcel1 :have you seen new posts from scawen?

What do you need new posts for, when there is nothing to tell to the average idiot who wont get it anyway and only make baby cry.

PS. this topic should have a warning in front the title "contains masses of spam". I always expect some real info, when it's on top, but all there is, is the usual bs.
When he said scirroco will be released??????
Quote from marcel1 :OmG, open your eyes have you seen some new posts from scawen?

No. But if that's a reason for you to ask the same question that has been asked many many times before, go on.
