I watch it, it's a good show. You have some people with real talent which are interesting to watch, then you have deluded ****wits which are even more interesting to watch. I usually stop watching when it gets past the auditions, the phone voting system and the judges annoy me. It's not fixed either, people just like to vote for the shit people even if it means someone with real talent has their hopes and dreams shat upon. Then the judges vote tactically, because they don't want the best singer to win, they want their best singer to win.

The music business is a very heavily controlled quango, and number one records are actually fairly easy to achieve for the handful of people who control the business. When you have a prime-time TV show promoting the records it's probably a lot harder to fail to have a number one single. Look at all the shit TV show-backed records that have been #1 selling singles in the last ten years or so. There's some unbearable shit in there.
