I too would like to see the third decimal implemented in the game.

Does anybody knows if the developers ever talked about implementing it in the future, or the case is closed?

I'm going to buy a big LCD monitor, probably a 226BW, but I'm in doubt if a Geforce 8800 320mb with a C2D 6600 will be enough to play games at 1600x1200 with good FPS.

Any opinion?

All I can say more is: community now it's time to work some in these hollidays and let the devs rest, come up with e.g an united collection of how we want the sound to be from every single LFS car. After the hollidays the devs have something to work with: ok the XFG, the community has said this is how a "real XFG" would sound like and how it should be ingame, ..... With that way of working it will demand time and very good organisation (specially from the community side), but like that we will get what we want ànd how it would sound in a racing simulation !

That's a very good idea, in my opinion.

And here's a suggestion of an engine sound for the F-3 car in the game (onboard, Macau 2006):

Quote from George Kuyumji :It sounds like your issue is oversteer when exiting the corner.

Gearing Ratios can solve this. The cars quaracter is not set in stone. You can set it up to meet your likings and your driving style. If you have a more aggressive driving style, you need a car that is stable and that gives you confidence in the middle of the corner to smash the throttle and not spin out.

You can drive aggresively and smash the throttle in the F08, but you cant do so if your Gearbox allows wheel spin exiting the corner. It's a Setup issue to have a car that allows for aggressive driving. You need to setup the car to that way that you dont have to be concerned about wheel spin when your in the corner.
If the car is setted up to meet your likings than you do not have to worry about stability, and you can concentrate on attacking the track.

You may also want to raise the rear Wing.

Very good explanation, thanks for the tips. I'll give up on the default set and try a different one.

tristancliffe,

I liked that irony. But the answer is probably yes. Perhaps the kids here just smash the throttle like if there is no tomorrow, and that's why they win so many races and titles all over the world.

keiran,

I've been racing karts in the last years too. There's a lot of kart centers in every big city here, you just have to pay and race every weekend if you want to. Thousands and thousands of people race karts in the world. I don't understand why you say that I must have no track experience because of my complain about the FV8. Maybe you think racing is all about throttle. Maybe you think car control is all about throttle. Even if I'm wrong about the FV8 your 3-4 years of kart "experience", nor your best laps driving the FOX thousand times in Blackwood - that, by the way, are not that faster than mine although I have a very short history on this game - gives you the right to say you know more about car control than anyone here.

But as SkyNet pointed above, people declare their love to the car, but don't race it online. Based on reasons like "servers are not populated", "my friends don't race there etc", what is not a good answer, since in gaming world we are always seeing small groups of people playing their favorite games isolated and far from the masses, because they prefer an older version of a specific game, or a game type that nobody likes but them. And even with the unpopular FV8 it's possible to play online. Most of the time I play very late in the night and, mainly in weekends, always see at least one server running it, with just a few racers, true, but that would be enough to a FV8 enthusiast.

I'll give the car a try again someday cause I like its power and the way it sounds. And I'm probably wrong, maybe the FV8 should stay the way it is until S3. An adored car as I could see, but far from being the favorite, even to people who say it's the best expression of how a racing car should behave. Thanks for the discussion.

Quote from George Kuyumji :
Could you describe what is your specific problem with the handling of the Formula V8 car in LFS? Maybe we can give you tips how to keep the car on track and drive smoothly. First Tip is: Change your Gearing Ratio, and then practise you will see if you practise a little bit with a easy to drive setup you will be able to drive constantly and several hundred laps without losing the car. It needs a little patience, driving skill and practise.

Maybe that's my biggest problem with the car: patience. But I'm going to give it a try again someday, for sure.

Quote from JJ72 :You don't think? or you don't know? And why among all technologies you have to empahsis on driver aids? the technology used in chassis design, aerodynamics, are all very critical in terms of technology, driver aids is just one part of it, just because they don't have active suspension and transformable aero parts doesn't mean they are low tech, most of these are down to rules and ensuring a level playing field.

I emphasized on driver aids because driver aids - like tc - are not present in lower formula cars, making it more difficult to drive, although those drivers do not make too many mistakes and do not spin too often, what is related to my first point.

And critical technology compared to what? F-Renault, Vauxhall, British, German, Spanish and South American F-3, sure those cars are expensive, demand a project, engineers and high quality production, but they are not "critical technology". GP2 is a step above but not a big difference either.

Quote :And what is your definition of professional racing drivers? It seems to you only F1 driver counts as professional racing drivers?

A professional driver is someone who is paid to drive. The great majority of F-3 and GP2 drivers are not paid to drive. Actually, some of them have to pay to drive (from sponsors or their own pocket). Most of them are not professional.

Quote :Heck, even winning at kart level is no where easy, just ask around the forum the chances of having both the talent and the resource, and having the right moment to make it happen. I don't know what racing experience you have that you base your judgement on, probably you think it is easy, someone can just jump in a single seater and instantly be quick, however that is definitely not the case.

And I think you distorted what I said previously. I didn't say it is easy to get there, nor that those lower formula drivers are not talented. Don't put words in my mouth.

Quote from keiran :F08's throttle doesn't feel right ? :/ There is nothing hugely wrong with the car and it doesn't even take all that much to drive the thing.

You can't tell if it is right or wrong, because you have never drove a racing car in your whole life, so like me you're just expressing your opinion.

Quote :You can't just slam your foot down and excpect to get lots of traction, otherwise there would be no challenge in racing. These aren't scalertrix cars. It's not a bug in LFS if your too lazy to learn how to modulate the throttle rather than use it as an on/off switch

I didn't say it is a bug. And LFS is the best racing game to me the way it is. Unfortunately some people just can't accept criticism to their favorite game - even if it intends to make the game better and more fun to people who support it.

But it's funny. Looking at your history in lfs world I see you practically only race the FOX. Thousands of laps in this car, and just some in the FV8. It surprised me because you are not lazy, likes a big challenge and the wonders of throttle control. Or maybe you are being hypocritical when you say the FV8 is fun and express how driving a car should be.

Quote :You seem to think that drivers in GP2, F3, Formula Renault are all rookies who have never sat in a racing car before, which is wrong by a far shot.

You are kidding, aren't you? Sure I know they raced before. Here in my country there is big motorsport activity, and we use to look for potential great drivers since they are karting. By the way, on november 7 a national driver, Luiz Razia, tested for GP2 and was the third fastest between the 27 drivers that were there. He is seventeen years old. He did a good job although never on a GP2 car before, but obviously he is rookie, as he himself admits. Like him there are other talented kids that can be fast and handle any car, but are not yet mature drivers.

Quote :Ask any professional driver where they learnt most of there car control + racing techniques and they will say in their early years of karting. From there on it's about adapting the skills you've developed to suit the car you are currently driving.

Yes, that's oldest cliche in racing world. Thanks for reminding me.

Quote :None of them drivers in real life will slam the throttle to the floor if they know the grip isn't there to do that.

I agree. But in real life racing cars a slight touch in the throttle will not lead the car to spin as well.

keiran,

It's not about having traction control. I've been playing GPL for years and it remains a great racing feeling to me. I just think the FV8 throttle doesn't feel right.

Quote from keiran :
I had many brilliant public races in the F08 and I hadn't used the thing in ages.

Unfortunately, it seems that not all LFS drivers are as skilled as you are. A lot of people - me included - are probably too slow and lazy to try to learn the wonders of throttle control.

Quote from JJ72 :All of these are purpose built race machines,do you know how much a brand new formula renault cost?? even in this "low" formulas you are looking at about 70000 euro for a car that only has less than 200bhp. The technology in it is no way low tech, it's still made with most up to date manufacturing technic. I don't think you have any idea how demanding these single seater racers are, phew... if you think GP2 drivers are rookies...try entering a regional kart race, you will be surprised by how much you missed when understanding race driving.

I don't think F-3, Vauxhall and Renault formulas have the most up to date technology and manufacturing technic. Neither GP2. And it has nothing to do with the price of the cars. Obviously those cars are expensive, but are low tech regarding driver aids.

And compared to virtual drivers/kart drivers GP2 guys are veterans, but compared to professional mature drivers they are amateurs, learning to be fast and to understand the reactions of a racing car, therefore more susceptible to driving mistakes - that they don't make too often, by the way. Sure it does not apply to the most talented kids, that soon reach F-1, but overall they are rookies.

So if the car is so easy to drive as you are saying, tell me why people do not use it online. Give me a reason for this.

A F3000 car should be very popular in a racing game. It's not in LFS, so something might be wrong with it. The last patch made it easier to drive but not enough to make people change their minds, I suppose. I almost never see servers racing the FV8, and when I see it there are only two or three players.

In my opinion the risk of spinning when reaccelerating is exaggerated and unrealistic. I'm not a professional driver, and who am I to tell the developers how the game cars should behave, but I don't think we have something similar to what happens with F-3, GP2, F-Renault, F-Vauxhall, whatever cars. We don't see those guys spinning that much although they are inexperienced rookies driving low tech cars.

I repeat: Formula V8 is practically dead to online races. And it's a real shame. The car is fun for driving some slow laps in single mode but too difficult and "sensitive" for wheel to wheel battles online.

I disagree that "F08 is just a more powerful FOX". It's not about power, but the way the car reacts.

Quote from ZORER :I think FO8 is very similar to the GP2 car.

I disagree, because I don't believe the real GP2 car itself is so difficult to drive.

I think LFS is a serious simulator and I like it, but I too think they exaggerated a bit with the Formula V8. It should be one of the most played cars on pickup races, but it's not easy to see a server running this car, because it is unrealistic difficult to drive, sometimes frustrating since you can't run 10 laps with it without a spin. That's why people prefer the the FOX - slower, uglier, worse engine sound, but you can race wheel to wheel, you can have fun races with it.

I think the game developers should pay attention to this issue. They have an almost dead car in the game, and exactly the car that was probably thought to be the most popular between online racers.

I turned av and firewall off, but nothing changed. My connection is ok, so I don't know what might be causing this.

Is there any way to make the game stop adjusting "MP time speed". A change in the settings or any config file?

Thank you for trying to help.
Please help me with this

Hi. Can someone tell me what the message "MP time speed adjust" means? I get it everytime I'm doing a multiplayer race.

What happens is that I keep getting the message while my multiplayer game gets worse. When i join a game, I set debug mod on (shift+f8), names over cars, and values are always around 0.04/0.06 in all cars. Then I start getting the "MP time speed adjust" message and values over cars reach 0.35 - by this time the other cars are shaking right and left all the time as if they were lagging.

I hope to have made myself clear. Any ideas?

Quote from Sawyer :I'm a big F1 fan and I really dont enjoy the new car. Its simple to fast for me. Still prefer FOX 100 times over BF1 and the fact that its driving only on fictional tracks doesnt help either.
Not saying thats its not well done.

I agree entirely. Must say that the BF1 disappointed me.

I have a problem too that I suppose to be related to lag issues. When watching a race by the external view, or even inside the cockpit watching cars that are close to me, the front of the other cars starts moving nervously, right-left, left-right, even on straights. Is it lag, graphical problems, bug in the game or what? Any solution for this?

I'm thinking about upgrading my internet connection and I have different options. Some of them give me very high download rates and less upload rates. Choosing others I will have not very high - although good - download rates but great upload rates.

I ask your opinion about what option would allow me to have better pings in the game. Also, what does that number above cars, that appear when I press shift+f8, mean exactly?

Thank you in advance.
