US test here, tried downloading the same mods both with/without HTTP redirect enabled, and it's at least 2x faster with it enabled from here, some mods download even faster, some would usually take around 15 seconds to download and now it takes about 7 seconds to do so with the new option..

I'm sorry I can't be as technical on my explanation, but hope it helps, anyway if there's a way to measure the download speed within LFS I'm happy to do more testing and report as needed

Conedodgers back in the day was just log in, pick any of the 3 GTRs and go racing, yeah it provided some serious crashes and pile ups on turn 1 every race but it was part of the fun, avoiding that and chasing the faster guys, some very close races happened there, sadly there's not that many racers interested in pickup GTR racing anymore, or almost any pickup racing in that matter, today it's either Demo servers, league racing or Cruise/Drift servers, at least now cruise servers allow mods and you can test drive a lot of cars all the time but.. nothing like the abundant close racing of yesteryear

To be honest I think such kind of racing could make a comeback if properly announced and supported by the community, creating some new servers and pushing them either here and inside other servers to encourage drivers to join these pickup racing servers instead of cruising/drifting, we could have a resurgence of fun available racing in LFS again.. I only wish, but I'd totally help if such thing could happen

Maybe even use the likes of Youtube or similar to promote the servers and racing... who knows...

Honestly just coming back since a looooong hiatus, remember the good old days of CTRA and [CD] where you could just join in and have as many pick up races as you wanted in different classes, now all the racing is GTi or maybe sometimes FBM, maybe FOX, Where's the TBO racing? LRF? GTRs? hell even MRTs would be nice with some layouts...

What would really help is to setup a pickup racing server with varying track/class combos each 4-5 races, I remember there was a server network that was exactly like that some years ago, upon joining, races were (for example) TBO class in an Fern bay track, after some 5 races it would announce a track/class change and it would load Aston/LRF.

Maybe a server setup like that and posting it over here may raise it's activity, and that could attract some more old timers and new racers to join in.

Gotta start somewhere to bring LFS's online activity back to life, current content has been proven to be fun IF it is actually ever used xD, I think it's a matter of spreading the voice, generating interest in racing again, Updates surely will, but we shouldn't keep on waiting without doing anything, the comunity itself can do that too! although not at the same rate obviously but surely it can be done... right?

Hello! can I have some help on here? Had to format my pc (saved my Lfs folder together with my files) and now the newest test patch I can run is E11, from E12 to E14 they're all crashing

It crashes on entry screen as soon as I try to go on single player mode, or pretty much when it has to show any 3d object on screen.

Before formatting it did run E13 normally but now it suddenly won't, my PC specs are:

MOBO: AsRock N68 VS3
OS: Win 7 - 32 bits
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 @ 3.00Ghz
Vcard: Nvidia GeForce EVGA GT430 (running drivers V. 332.21)
Ram: 4GB samsung @1333mhz
HDD: Samsung SATA 500GB

Used to run Lfs (and the test patches) normally on this pc before formatting, seems weird this is happening now, am I missing something?

BTW, here's the info I could gather from the crash, is always the same, and My OS is in spanish so I'll try to do my best on translating the report:

Hello everyone! Loong time since I last posted on here , been racing again on LFS for a while now and thought about this:

IMO a good part of what's killing the online pickup racing aspect of the sim is the current server system, by having all the server classes in one list people in the end only join the servers wich have people inside (c'mon is more fun when there's more racers inside!), the way I see it This is the cause of having an overflood of demo/drift/cruise servers and people joining them just for the population, ignoring there's other 300+ servers underneath wich are set to other car/track combos and different modes of racing, take for example this: say that you want to join in for some racing and go to the server list, being an S2 user you only find (currently) 1 populated racing server (cargame S2), the rest is Demo, Drift, Cruise and Crash, and if you find another S2 server with people inside is just like 2 racers in there at most.

What I say has to be done (or re-done) to improve the online experience of the sim is to implement again the option to select the Server class before showing the server list, in this way Demo racers can go their own way and we (licensed S1 and S2 users) can find again more populated servers with different car/track combos than those found on today's basis.

Please discuss your own opinions, and Excuse me if this has been asked a lot before.

Just Tested the windowed mode bug and I reproduced it too while spectating a race (0.6B6), cars appeared as (LAG...), by the way after a while cars appeared again but then the on-track cam bugged for some of the cars (some parts of the Track were missing and the on-track camera stayed focusing on the cars but from one single point of the track , confusing but thats what just happened to me), made it go back to normal by switching to chase camera and waiting for the cars to drive onto a loaded part of the track, after doing it on the bugged cars the on-track camera worked fine again.

just to leave this here: have any of you noticed that these "strange sound" videos are almost all coming from either Usa or other known places on the world? i want to add that i've never heard it over here (Venezuela - South America) and haven't known of anybody that heard it before over here in the country or in this whole part of the continent or other parts of the world (Africa, for example?)... so if this would be real, it should be heard Everywhere, no?.... that's suspicious...

Can I say something again?, well Agree on That, wouldn't like to risk myself again but I heard for example that with new Gibsons that's the case, some people try many <same-model> guitars because they say some feel different, for example someone goes for an Les Paul Standard, he plays like 6 of those or more to find the one he likes (and i Ask This Because Sadly my local music shop carries Fender Ibanez Jackson and even Parker guitars but never saw a Gibson in there), again don't know about Ibanez Prestiges being like that, but is not a bad idea to try some of the same guitar when you pick the one you like, i deffinitively would do that, even if i trust on the quality control.

And for 'you can play metal on pretty much anything' agree too, see Yngwie malmsteen playing all that neo-classic metal on a Stratocaster, and i heard of some death-metal band out there wich one guitarist of them plays with a Normal Telecaster, so that means that doesn't matters what you play, as long as you like how it plays and how it sounds

oh Well Passed Away the Fact That the S5470 is mahoghany, knowing that, Well yes it will sound heavier, but anyway there's a lot of things that affect the soung of a guitar.

I Said that The S would be easier to play because of the thinner body, not it's weight, Why this? well 'cause the fret access, that's annother aspect to look at.

Well Really sorry for the S/RG Body thing, really got confused there, there's a lot of things happening on here at my place and i was only trying to help, but being that confused isn't giving me any good result as i can see (retires to cry for giving bad advice).

Btw The Very End, really what you have to do is what has been said before, go to a music shop, try as many guitars as you want, and then walk away with the one you like , and really sorry for that Big mistake, Damn i sounded dumber than a 10-year old there .

Well That's annother option, the thing is that he wants a really thin neck so he can play fast, and have to say that every Sg I've tryed (Being Gibson or even Epiphone) their necks feel thicker than a normal Strat neck, and if he's looking for a thin neck (and as I understand a normal strat neck is the maximun size he wants on a neck) then the Sg may not be for him, only for that reason, and that he wants a 24 fret guitar (BTW that Doesn't Means that it is a good one too, Quality And sound-wise, but as seen, it's specs aren't what he's looking for...), anyway, You (The Very End) are the one that is going to play it, so if oyu can go 'n try some on your music shop, as said, they are very good guitars too .

EDIT: And The Very End, you're welcome men , I'm Always trying (atleast) to guide guitarist to what they are looking for .

Oh, well Yes, got a Bit confused there, they got the same Wizard II Neck, so their necks should feel basicly <the same-really close> between eachother, Btw S5470's Body is thinner that the RG, What does this mean? it is goign to be lighter (the Whole guitar) and maybe easier to play, but Rg's thick body will help to make the guitar Sound Heavy, and anyway the difference in weight isn't that much...

Well If you want a Really Thin Neck then yes, Btw S-series neck is thicker that Rg's, but not that much, but yes the RG are the thinner necks i've played ever.

S-series necks are more, well, standard sized, pretty much like Jackson necks, Fender Necks, ESP, Etc. Wich Still are Thinner that Gibson and the like.

If oyu have any Doubts anyway you can look on the Ibanez Site, each model has their neck radius, size and thickness on their specs, see here for example:

Well Actually Ibanez Is known for it's super slim Necks, look at their Wizard necks Included in their RG Series guitars, Super Slim, BTW the necks on their S-series ones are thicker that RG's, not that much but quite some.

Anyway the neck profile is one of the most important things to look out on a guitar, that's why you should play the guitar you want before buying it.

EDIT: if you ever want to know who make Thick and very round necks, look for Gibson, Epiphone, Schecter in some of their guitars, and there's some more but can't remember them names exactly right now :S.

Well I'm not that sure about delivering, they ship directly to anywhere on the States, and to canada too, but I think they don't ship directly overseas, you'll have to find one of those shipping couriers on the states that ship to Norway (or europe in general), Make Guitar Center ship to that courier, then make the courier bring it to you on Norway, BTW you'll have to spend Some on shipping to do that, me thinks around 250$-even 300$ to ship in your home from the states...

Well for the Amp as Uke said, is basicly the same thing than the guitar, go out and try some till you find one that you like. BTW are you the MultiFX (The KORG) to get distortion? if you only use the amp for, well, amplify the sound then get a pretty clean sounding amp (think about Fender and the like) BUT if you want some Metal tones and you use the Korg for only effects, then My bet is in one of these (of course, if you can get one):

Peavey 6505+ 112 Combo (that's a single 12' speaker if you dodn't know), That amp is as Metal as the whole eiffel tower xD, Pure Metal tone, More gain that you would need, deffinitively Amazing have to say , the only con of this amp is that the Clean channel is not something from annother world, but is great anyway, and if you'r getting one of these is for playing metal, no? .

I saw the Orange tiny Terror suggestion up there, That's a Good Amp, But I Doubt it has the enough Gain for your music style, And you'll have to crank it to get a good distortion coming out of it becasue is a single channel amp.

Btw You still Have Tons of options, go 'n try as many amps as you can on your musical store, btw if you want, give us you amp budget and we could give you some suggestion, so you won't have to try That many amps out there xD!.

well with that kind of budget you have PLENTY of options, You Can TRy different brands like: ESP, Schecter, Jackson, Etc, there's a Lot of brands that make guitars with those specs. BTW, will you be changing your tuning frequently? 'cause if you do so, then you will not want a Floyd rose style bridge, or if you'll keep that guitar you already have?, then you can use them both for different tunings... BTW That Ibby is Pretty Good, tryed one sometime ago (noodling on my local music store btw), was surprised by how it played, the bridge stayed perfectly in tune after some divebombs and so, very good action and feel in general, and it Screamed trough that Marshall JCM-900 I played it on, fell in love with it but I Would need to sell one of my legs to buy one with these crazy price tags on here :X.

Another thing that I Would like to ask you is: wich Amp you are going to play it with?, remember that THE MOST (actually i would say 89%) of your sound is from you amp, so if your looking for a different sound, spend on a different amp instead, and for the guitar We can suggest a Million Guitars to you, but You have to play'em to decide if you want it or not, and with that much cash on a guitar you have Plenty of options from where to pick .

So Start playing guitars on your musical shops, and make a New Guitar Day (NGD) Thread when you get it Please!!!111oneoneeleven xD.

Well, Clean, Have to say it´s actually good, Going from the differents models you can have Brittish or American Voiced tones (Brittish: More trebly, American: More Bassy) deffinitively It sounds Good for Blues (I like Playing Blues, and have to say I was Impressed).

For the Modeling: Well Modeling is not only High Gain Stuff, in Youtube and sites like that, the people focuse on reviewing more the Overdrive/Distortion side of the Amp, Cause the cleans are no that important for Those guys, But I have to say It´s a very good amp in the cleans side, and as good in the OD/DT mode too.

What Modeling Does is Emulating Different Amps in One, That Means Marshalls, Mesas, ENGLs, Fenders and the like, ALL in One Amp, Each one with Their Clean/OD channels (Off course, it isnt going to sound Exactly like the originals, but it is Very Very close ), and an extra thing, it´s got the peavey transtube circuit, wich in My opinion too, Sounds Very Tubish (btw dont worry about the need of cranking it to get distorted sounds), Plus all the presets on it are editable, so you can edit the aspects of your sound (gain, EQ, and volume, of course) for Each Amp Model, so if it sounds way too much distorted, you can edit ´em to get a less Gainy and more "Crispy" tone, just what you´ll need for blues .

Well for Guitar gear ask me, i Know a lot about that;

For the Cort Guitar: be sure that it will work for you, they are good! (I´m talking from experience) so dont worry about that. the only point is that after a while maybe you will want a pickup swap, but that´s not That important.

For the Amp: Get a Peavey Vypyr 15w, as Loud as a Line6 Spider III, Sounds A LOT!! Better, its a modeling Amp, so it emulates many different amps (a bit difficult to use in the very first days, but you will be proud of your Amp in no time ), I have tryed it in my local music shop, and have to say that it kicks major a** in sound and effects, and I´m sure it´s one of the most loudest 15W amps I ever Heard.

So Hope I helped you atleast a bit, and hoping you enjoy your playing, Have fun .

EDIT: A little reason for why not get the Line6 Spider (III of IV): as it is a cheap modeling amp, it sounds very "digital" (the effects sound very emulated, as the Amp Models too) So thats Annother reason to get the Vypyr, really, take my advice, you wont be dissapointed .
