Guess they just put out a fix containing a tire compound tweak for the Corvette, will be interesting to see what they changed.

Edit: Ian Berwick(from iRacing) says: "it's going to be a very minor adjustment to the tires. They should feel pretty much the same, but they should be SLIGHTLY more forgiving. Grant can feel the difference.... I'm not good enough to feel it, but slides are a bit more "catch-able" "

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Good thoughts, although suspension will play a huge part in that too. The solstice weighs almost 2900lbs, how much does the C6R weigh? I would assume from common sense that the C6R would be a hell of a lot more responsive than a roadgoing Solstice regardless, so I'm not sure about that part of your thesis...

C6R is only 2,435.

Quote from anttt69 :Where did you see that quote electric? Ive always thought the same, have iRacing officially recognized that there is an issue?

Posted by Crommi on the previous page:

"There is an issue with contrast and color balance. We're working on graphics updates that deal with that, and true HDR lighting, DOF blurr, etc. We've had higher priorities right now, but all of that stuff is on our todo list. I've been able to play around with the contrast and color balance and it makes a huge difference.

Our track surface shaders are very lame right now. :-) The only objects with shaders doing anything complicated are the cars.

Quote from spanks :ok really gotta go now haha

Nice, in all the screenshots I saw the headlights were yellow, looks like that's not always the case.

Quote from spanks :I don't have time to grab video atm I really shouldn't be on the computer anyways..but I think they nailed the sound.

Not only the sound of a v8 but the unique sound of an LS series engine.

Its got the low end grunt sound, but then just absolutely screams and makes awful noises as it gets to redline. Its wonderful

The indycar is kind of fun. I think it will be addicting. It feels extremely sterile and easy to drive. It started to come alive the more I pushed it though. Setup is going to be everything on making that car work. I can't wait to see what the masterminds decide to do with it.

I have a L76 V8 in my car and it will be awesome to have something that sounds similar sim racing.

Of all the days my company had to throw a meeting at lunch they HAD TO DO IT TODAY. At least I get free BBQ.

Quote from spanks :The sound is gnarly. It backfires like mad too. Its got a real grunt to it. It has a big tendency to understeer, but then snaps into oversteer big time if you stand on it. I don't think this setup is too grand but it sure is fun haha.

I'm pretty jealous right now. A great V8 engine sound is one of the main things I was hoping for with this car, sounds like they came through?

6 more hours of work to go...

So glad they got SoftTH 1.09C in there, a decent speed improvement for nVidia users in that version with the CUDA support.

Quote from boothy :Funnily enough Star Mazda went back to standings starts last year, think it was to reduce T1 incidents (slower speeds), better startline spectacle and also training for standing starts maybe.

Is a standing start really that much of a spectacle to see? I would think rolling starts would be cooler, its a big pack of cars closer together at a much higher speed. I've never seen a standing start in person though, so its hard to tell without witnessing both.

Wasn't it a well known fact that the Mazda's and curbs did not get along? Looks like he just screwed his line up to me.

Quote from DaveWS : Interesting you say that, because I've heard the opposite from other drivers. IIRC Greger Huttu uses 60(?) degrees FOV.

Actually, I was thinking of things backwards now that I think about it again. When I said high FOV, I really meant lower haha. I first noticed it when iRacing put the multihead display change in, which took my FOV from like 115 down to 105 or something like that. Huttu using 60 makes sense.

I just don't know if what you're talking about will be possible in any sim, ever. I think its harder to catch slides in a sim compared to real life because we are sitting in front of a computer with no forces acting on us. In real life, drivers can do that because they can feel everything the car is doing, the split second they start losing the back end, a quick flick of the wheel and they catch it. I think its just really hard to simulate something like that through wheel FFB alone. Also, what makes the aliens in iRacing so fast? I'm sure there are guys who can catch slides 99% of the time in the Mazda, I don't know how, but they're doing something right.

I've noticed that a high FOV helps with catching slides, when you start rotating too much, you noticed it REALLY quickly if your FOV is higher.

Quote from Crashgate3 : Another point on Crossfire (and SLI for anyone running nVidia cards) is that SoftTH cannot take advantage of this - you'd only be getting the rendering power of one card. The TH2G however can take advantage of Crossfire/SLI.

SoftTH can use SLI/Crossfire, but you'd need three graphics card instead of two. Reason it doesn't work is that when you're in SLI/Crossfire mode, you're only getting output out of one card instead of both, so you'd need a 3rd card to get information to the third monitor.

Agreed, at least they just came out and said its delayed. I haven't seen any complaining yet. This will make Friday afternoon at work that much more excruciating as I'm going to want to get home and drive the Corvette.

Quote from spanks :site goes under maintenance at 13:50GMT tomorrow morning...new cars ?

We thought they were coming, but Steve Myers(iRacing) just said they found some issues though and maintenance has been pushed back to tomorrow now. Bummer.

Quote from Jakg :Without being unduly harsh - it's my money.

I know it's a lot of money on a case, but i've had my current one 5 years - I plan on keeping my new one just as long.

+1

I ponied up and got a Lian-Li case back in 2003 I think it was. More money than I needed to spend but I'd say its worth it over the long run. Love the removable HDD bay and motherboard tray, the money was worth it when it saves you time upgrading stuff. Had it 6+ years now and I have no plans to replace it, been through countless hardware upgrades but I see no reason to get a new case any time soon.

Quote from titanLS :I got a quick taste earlier today. Dust/smoke/skids look good with no fps hit. Mazda feels better. Don't know about any of the oval stuff...

They supposedly didn't change much on the oval side. Just some forced setup options on restrictor plate tracks, and some small engine braking tweaks is all I've hear about I think.

Mosport is pretty awesome. I'm really starting to get back into my road racing groove I think.

Quote from Sequel77 :LIKE ME!!

This morning they said 0.9 will be supported in the near future, so don't delete that .cfg file just yet. Will have to roll back to 0.8 for now though.

Quote from Gnomie :That begs the question: WHY? If iRacing had made their own telemetry tool, I guess it could be understood, but now it's just weird.. has there been an official statement about this?

Nope.

The newest version of SoftTH doesn't work either, they're only allowing 0.8 although the 0.9 RC has been out since January and that's essentially what everyone uses. It ceases to amaze me how iRacing always seems to drop the ball. How hard is to create a thread on the forums saying, "we're changing this, give us feedback for SoftTH" since they obviously don't use it very much and neither do their beta testers, judging by how the multihead implementation in the last build was messed up for some SoftTH users.

Quote from PMD9409 : Ugh, don't want to shell out any money, but sadly I will.

Why'd you leave in the first place? Lack of races? Its going to be interesting to see what the FastTrack program does for getting people up to A/B faster, there might be a lot more upper class racing going on which I'm looking forward to.

The "iRating tanking" scandal that came out today was pretty amusing to me since my club knew about it all along. The club point system is screwed up and iRacing was told of this at the beginning of the season but didn't do anything about it because "no one will exploit it". Well someone did and now they're adding something to the sporting code to stop it, instead of just fixing the problem so there would be no point to sandbag in the first place. I'd love to sit in on an iRacing team meeting to hear what the hell their discussions are like because their decisions make no sense to me. Also, now Club NY is viewed is immoral cheaters, haha.

Awesome post, that's a ridiculously long hike, congrats on making it! Has to be a great feeling to go on an adventure like that away from real life for such a long time. I'm going to check out those pictures when I get home later, sure there's some good stuff in there.
