How do you adjust braking force on your road car? I'm asking seriously - I'm no mechanic I know front-rear bias can be adjusted and there's kits available to make this easier in certain cars.
Using an h-shifter and clutch while everyone else is using a sequential and autoclutch is another disadvantage. But I strive for realism - even if it costs me time on the track.
Two wheels off is not outlawed in iRacing. It just affects your safety rating. If you keep doing it lap after lap you'll be demoted to a lower class where your stuck with wreckers Atleast that's how I interpreted it.
Threshold braking is a necessary racing skill. In LFS, people just set the max braking force so that they can slam the brake pedal down without locking up the wheel. This isn't very realistic. If I use a realistic setting, I'm at a disadvantage. I think this option should be removed from the setup screen.
I'm not quite sure what to do about mouse and keyboard users though... they won't be able to complete a lap if they lock up the wheels around every turn.
I didn't see anything like that. But if you pay for a track, there's a chance iRacing will lose the license to that track over time and you can no longer race it online. You will "not" be given a refund but you can continue to race in test mode by yourself. The FAQ says the chances of them losing a license is slim but still I don't really like the idea of paying for a subscription AND renting content. I'd prefer either one or the other. Either subscribe and get everything or pay for the initial release and for track/car packs.
I agree. Mainly because if this rule is enforced strictly as Sam says, then it's near impossible to join mid-race without either catching up to the car in front of you or having someone catch up to you unless the track is sufficiently long.
This sounds oddly familiar... Where have I heard this before....? Oh yeah... that dang local cop who pulled me over twice in one week for no front license plate. grrrr..... I guess I like breaking rules. Feel free to revoke my copper license!
@no-passing: I don't think this should be enforced blindly. There's certain situations where it's better that mid-race joiners pass stragglers then be forced to stay behind them. If they're not allowed to pass any cars, then they're just one more car that might interfere with the leaders.
When I join mid-race, I try to stay as close to the main pack and as far away from getting lapped by the race leaders as possible. This usually means I pass people who are having a hard time controlling their car.
It looks like they took down the knowledge base articles. Maybe someone leaked it? Either that or teh internetz is busted..
One thing I found interesting was your safety rating is not only affected by contact with other cars, it's also affected by:
1) Rotating more than 90 degrees
2) Coming into contact with wall
3) 2 or more tires off the track
In LFS most people don't care if they hit a wall or go off the track since it's just a game. I'm guilty of this too. I think iRacing's system will encourage better driving. People won't jump into a new track and attempt to drive it at 10/10ths.
A nascar is not similar to my own car though... My knowledge of rFactor is lacking, but I was under the assumption that the physics are only good in a few mods (good meaning acceptable but not as good as LFS).
Surprised to see so many vettes in that picture. I didn't think they were popular in other countries. I think I've been watching too much Top Gear Nice lambo behind you too..
I don't want to get screwed. But the idea of racing at Limerock or Watkins Glen in cars similar to my own before I do my first track day at said tracks is appealing to me.
I wonder how the safety ratings work? If you hit someone and it's not your fault, would you still lose rating, and be eventually forced down the servers into a perpetual wrecker hell of no return?
That might actually be fun..! If it wasn't so damn expensive, it would be fun to see how low I can make my rank...
I wonder how large a margin they'll have for the division because generally you need to race your betters, at least once in a while. Everyone needs a good ass whooping to get the picture back in perspective.
Agreed. It's hard to improve if you're only racing against people marginally better than you.
However, the FAQ does say that more experienced drivers are free to race with people with a lower rank:
You'll start getting paired up with similarly skilled racers fairly quickly, but it can take a while for your rating to sort out.
You can always race down in a series below your current level.
I did not mean it like that. And i said it few posts down. And if you cant understand what i mean im rly sorry for ya. If indeed is gonna be very great sim we shall yet see. Superman Returns, the movie was suppsed to be da sh1t and what not and look how rubish it turned out. Maybe youre some tester or somethin and you know more than i do, but its just i dont believe it if i dont see it, thats all. Now give me a brake with all this that im anti US, couse im not, im just anti politics. Get it?
Understood. I'm anti-politics also. I'm not quite sure what that has to do with iRacing though...
