Looks pretty good, but I *think that might be a bit high price for the 8600gt. The 8800gt 256mb would be worlds better if you could go that route. I mean litereally like 2-4 times as powerfull as that 8600.
RAM -> You should look for some DDR2-800 which is PC2-6400. Jakg might recommend some RAM for you, but that looks good.
Your Mobo should be fine for SATA 2/3.
Are you planning to OC? If so you should be able to hit 3.0+ GHz very easily and safely.
As of now, there are 23,331 forum members. Assuming that the majority are unique users (there are many LFS members who aren't forum members), there should be about 64 forum members with Christmas B-days.
I'm kind of surprised in the almost 2 years 06 has been out that the cpu test is still demanding to the level that the top home cpu's are only getting 1-2 fps. But when you take in account how demanding high-quality rendering is .
p35c-ds3l has been getting a lot of sucessful oc's too.
Was good, but could anyone deny that they got absolutely giddy watching Patrick Snijers in that E30 M3 around Isle of Man? Imagining that in a LFS just would be nuts.
Twould be good fun to have a course to "duel" on though.
Ah well, at least no matter what else you got today, you know what you really want is already on the way. Please let us know how it is, and how lfs plays at that resolution

If Scavier started to cater to people who want different things than their vision (i.e. 'dumb' physics, etc) than the project could very well become muddled. There would be so much time wasted in debating what the drifters need/want vs what the cruisers want that it would affect the development of the racing sim negatively.
What we can look forward to is the day after LFS has run its course and Scavier can sell the physics engine out. Then (perhaps) various types of racing games can enjoy the basic car physics that are easily some of the best in the world.
