Quote from xaotik :Somehow a photograph of a building in London in flames with a german language caption over it only seems right if it's in black and white.

you know your joke isnt very good when a german has made it prior to you... without even realizing

today during lunch i told a few colleagues about the pic
"and then theres an image of a london building on fire"
"from 1945?"
"............ from yesterday......."

Quote from Intrepid :fiat money, fiat currency, has no inherent value in itself

neither has gold
apart from the previously mentioned useability in saving surfaces from corrosion which will be extremely useful in building nice shiny benches to sit on when shit actually hits the fan and were living in the woods

Quote from Intrepid :In other news my Avatar has hit a record high of $1700 per ounce today

Oh how stupid and naive Intrepid is

hate to burst your bubble... well actually i dont... but apart from having a use in manufacturing electronics gold is pretty much utterly worthless and the price is as inflated as everything else

no its highly efficient because its basically what happens when you apply the sampling theorem to 3 dimensions and make it even more efficient by allowing you to adjust the sampling frequency freely to reduce data in smooth areas even more

theres a mathematical optimality there between the amount of surface detail you can represent and the amount of data necessary to do that

Quote from Forbin :Their reason for switching the motion sim station from a road course with an open-wheeler to an oval with a stock car was, "No one could drive it except you."

which in fairness is probably true... a little exaggerated but true

Quote :No, Shotglass was correct. Think about it.

youre so germanic

Quote from tristancliffe :In 200 years will all graphics be polygon based? I doubt it.

not all and neither is it now but its quite likely that it will stick with non flat polygons for quite a while
even if its only for no better reason than that splines and other forms of curved polygons have been the most sensible way to create surfaces for a long time

is a hugely beneficial and efficient way to store 3d data with an arbitrary amount of detail

you should have at least sued her for shared custody
its inhumane to leave a defenseless pig with a person like that

Quote from tristancliffe :But there must be something out there better than polygons and textures/maps.

clearly that explains why its still used in professional cgi then
although ive heard that there are some rendering engines that do something voxel like and break everything down into spheres that can be calculated highly efficiently via raytracing... the basis is still a poly model though

Quote from Forbin :The rest were all NASCAR. The next two days, the motion sim station was also switched over to NASCAR.

so basically what it was was a chair on a platform that was constantly leaned to the right?

iirc mclarend did use a123s in 20009 but im not sure about the rest and after that it looks to me like they arent
the weight savings from using lipo instead are massive so i wouldnt be surprised if they did

Quote from Kazu2799 :anyone know why heidfeld's car "exploded"?

judging by the way it looked id guess something overheated from the lengthy stop the car caught fire and developed smoke that looked a lot like a lipo fire ending in some eplosive release of gas from the batteries

Quote from Intrepid :Thanks Shotglass for highlighting that little error there. I'll really try hard to improve next time.

you did it twice so dont try to pass it off as a typo

that pretty much applies to every single one of your posts in this thread... and any other thread remotely related to the bbc
