By far the best case probably is a self made and designed one. It maybe doesn't have all the fancy stuff but it's as big as you need and has the things you need - space for 2 480 rads? No problem. Space for an eATX mobo? Not a problem too, neither is a problem to have 5+ HDs. And yes, this would be something along the lines of a Skulltrail with quad SLI/CF, all water cooled (both cards, both CPUs, NB, southbridges) :P And something the size of 60x60 cm

Porsche vs. Audi? That's different, different classes that just end up way too close on the track. The Spyder was made to be sold - waasn't meant to be ran as a factory car. It's the opposite with the R10 TDIs. That's Porsches philosophy - make racecars that can be sold to customers and make money from that. I doubt we'll see a LMP1 anytime soon from Porsche.

Quote from Jakg :If you want monitor added in there (or a keyboard & mouse - which i'd recommend) and keep in the budget then say and i'll update it.

Sorry for double posting but i'm lazy.

Jakg i'd change the GFX with an 8800 GT (or HD3870, both should be enough for racing games) and the CPU for a E8400. It'd be a rocking system then (or maybe the case too, didn't hear anything particularly god about it).

Quote from Noccy :Was going to suggest a semi-budget system that has good upgradability.
P35, 2GB DDR2-800, intel C2D E6550, Nvidia 9600GT, P182case, a corsair HX 520Watt PSU .

and one of these monitors
LG Electronics Flatron L245WP
Hyundai W241D
Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP
BenQ FP241W

That would allow u to plug in a much faster CPU later on and same with the GPU, so u can upgrade when u feel it's needed..but at the same time that system will run any game currently on the market.

I usually spend a bit more on the case and monitor as those are parts u will most likely still be using in 5years, unlike all the other parts which will be dated by the end of the year..no matter what u buy right now.

Sli is an utter waste if u don't insist on running Crysis on max res and quality with full AA/AF. ( it's a bad game anyhow ,but that's beside the point )
As a normal user u are better off spending money on one card now and then spending the other part in 2009 on a new generation.
The one card will run everything fine for a year and a new card in 2009 will be faster than two 9800GTX's.

Pay like 10-20 pounds more and get a bit faster 8800 GT. 9600 is better for SLI but we won't do that. And suggesting E6xx0 CPUs now is just stupid. Unless they can be had for 70 pounds or something like that. Compared to the 6550 the 8400 is more expensive, but is faster (not much), but most importantly, runs cooler and overclocks better (if needed).

Why should prodrive be an engine buyer???? FYI, they manage (and make) the DBR9 cars and the Subaru WRC Imprezas (Subaru World Rally Team). I think they have all the needed engineering knowledge in house to make an F1 engine and the car itself too!

I wrote a system quite simmilar to headbangers in the MB thread. THough seeing now, it'd be prolly the same if you bought an 8800 GT, which works fine at 1680x1050. For 24''+ LCDs an 8800 GTS would be better but since the 90800 GTX is a bit better and not that much more expensive, that would be the choice. But 8800 GT would be sufficient almost surely.

2 things i'd change in headbangers setup, as i said in the other thread, P35 board. Do not buy nForce, it's all trouble. And thinking you'll buy SLI later is just stupid. It's better to buy a new higher generation card then which will be just as fast and will consume less power and will have newer features. So P35 it is. And Antec P182 over the P900. It's a bit pain in the arseish to setup nicely (to hide the cables and all) but once it's done, it's a very nice case.

9800 GTX, E8400, 2 gigs, maybe even 4 gigs of RAM (if you want to run Vista, get 4 gigs and 64 bit Vista, unless it doesn't really matter, but RAM is very cheap), DDR2 naturally, DDR3 is just not worth it, a 500 gig HD (or two of them if you need the space), if you need 'more' HDs (but not more space), just partition the hell out of it, a good PSU (i am generally looking at Tagans which are very nice PSUs, dead silent and not that expensive here, i'd look at some Corsairs or Enermaxes (but Es are expensive, Corsairs are very good for the price), a nice case (Antec P182 for example) and a Scythe Mugen for example over the CPU. Some other may be nice too but i don't really know much about air cooling since most of my buying research is based on water cooling lately.

As for the mobo, P35, it's a 'must', you could go for X38 but it supports crossfire (which you don't want) and DDR2 performance is generally slower than on P35. So P5K series as i've said (in this topic?), Abit IP35-PRO, maybe some DFIs if you can get them. As for the P5K- take a look at the P5K-E, P5K-PRO or P5K Premium. I wouldn't go for DDR2/3 mobos, they generally aren't as good, well they are good on both fronts but no excelent. SO no P5KC in my oppinion.

Quote from Ahriman4891 :Bugatti? Lamborghini? Would just sound cooler Also, Lambo will be taken more seriously if they actually compete with Ferrari in F1. For Bugatti, it would be a return to the days when the name actually mattered (which seems to be VAG's plan for the brand anyway, hence the outrageous Veyron)

The Veyron was actually nothing else but a proof of concept - a 1000 bhp 400 kph car. It costs them 5 million € to make one while they sell them at 1 million € a piece - not exactly profitable. They could throw it under the Lamborghini marque but it is doing very well lately, with the Gallardo, Murcielago and nov the Reventon. So it's better to put a dead marque on it to wake up the memories and that's it. I doubt there will be many more cars to come. But maybe there will. There were words of a LMP style Veyron but i kinda doubt it. If it's coming, it would just be a road special. It wouldn't race as that would be stupid - in house competition against Audi. SO for that part i'd say it's more probable it would be a Lambo if not even something totaly 3rd (Audi or VW?). Would make wins agains Ferrari worth a lot more.

Quote from DTrott :I believe Prodrive may be joining F1 next year. They were going to take part this year.

They said they will be joining in 2006 if not even for 2005. Are they here now? No. But i hope they come, more competition is always healthy and Prodrive, in my oppinion, is a very big name in racing. Maybe not the most known out there but whoever knows at least a tiny bit about racing must be aware of them. Maybe Prodrive would put the Aston Martin marque on the F1 car since they own it (with the help of some arabic sheikhs)

We'll see the real balance next year with a Prodrive run LMP. Well i guess that will be the case since the rumours are there and the 50 year anniversary will be next year too. Though it would be quite a feat to win in their 'first' year. Would be nice though.

Quote from sam93 :Well, I can sue the council because the sign was illegal, didn't meet the legal requirments. Oh and you really need good eye sight when your back wheel hits a pretty big rock when turning what then makes you come off going down a hill at about 10-15mph coming off sliding down and hitting your head so bad you nearly die. Well I wear classes yes but I knew that road very well so I knew my limits. The doctor said if it knocked me out I would be dead. The doctor was suprise how I could handle the pain he said I must be both physically and mentally strong. If you can survive what happened to me, then try arguing about it until then keep your mouth shut if you don't know the facts.
Oh and I am fit, as I am a very sporty person before my accident I done boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts and a bit of grappling, so that will tell you I am a fit person.

You are either very 'lucky' to fall like that or you're the most unfit person ever. I'm 190 cm tall and i wigh about 70 kg (so yeah, i'm actually skinny) and i had a pretty nice crash a year and a half ago. Went straight on on a trail (missed the corner, was going way too fast, especially considering it was my first ride there), flew over the handlebars and head on into a rock. THe helmet was mangled and i had problems lying down for a week and looking back on the bike for about a month. That was it (appart from 2 scratches). Without a helmet i wouldn't have been here. And please, put some effort into your typing, it's impossible to read your posts...

back on topic, i sadly live in SLovenia, where we don't even have a racing track so no racing for me. I'd really love to do it but there are no cheap racing series, no track days and the starting uphill stuff is a bit too expensive. And i'm getting older so it's prolly best to study and get a good job rather than try and race.

IF you're not building a TRI/QuadSLI rig, forget nForce. Get a good P35 mobo and get a 9800GTX/3870 X2. And forget a 6600/6700 quad, they are old news. Since you'll be playing games, get an E8400. There's a big review of the E8200, E8400 and E8500 on bit-tech and they said the E8400 is the best buy for gaming. As for the mobo, i'd get the Abit IP35-PRO or a P5K board (Premium maybe or P5K-E or something simmilar).

Jakg bought it a year ago. There's a dual core celly too, the E1200. It was the cheapest CPU at that time and it wa meant to be a part time CPU as the 22.7. price drops were a few days away. And it was either this CPU and vacation or E6300...

How can you not stop a cumbersome thing???? Pressing tab for every first letter of the word takes huge amounts of time and mangles your palm/fingers if you want to type anywhere near decent speed. The kids these days... I swear, it used to be americans, but brittish kids can't write in their own language too anymore...

7600 or 6600 GT on agp, whatever you find. I used a 6600 GT for quite a while, worked like a breez at 1024 and 8x AA and 16x AF in LFS.

It has never been said that trucks WILL be implemented. THere was some talk about a rally pack before S2 but it seems more or less dead at the moment. The devs only said they would like to simulate all forms of racing sometime.

And just get an S2 licence, no sense in waiting for S3, it's years away.

Or making the fans on the radiator as exhausts. Or making the case basicly an air tunnel. The air going through the radiator doesn't get warmed up THAT much. If you have exhaust vents on the back/top it's more or less okay to have it inside then. The most common place is the front or bottom anyway. The top is quite popular too though.

Well my Celeron 420 1,6 GHz) at 2,4 GHz does SuperPI at 26 and a bit seconds. That's on a standard desktop, kinda clutered system. It's a single core 512 kB L2 chip. Core 2 architecture.

That's the problem, no flash support. If you have used it, search the net if E61 does support it and you're missing something. But AFIAK only N95 supports youtube vids (via some sort of an app). Symbian generally doesn't support flash though.

If i'd be thinking about 8800 GT(S) SLI performance, it'd be 9800GX2 for sure as i've not heard anything good about nVidia Intel chipsets...
Primoz

Yopu said a pair of GPUs and said you're thinking about 8800 GTXs. Change that to 8800 GTS 512 or 9800 GTX. And then there's another rpoblem. For a utilized SLI rig you need CPU power. Loads of it. Think in the range od 3,6 GHz Core 2s when OCed GFX cards. What does AMD have to offer in that performance region? Sadly nothing... That's the problem. It would work, but the CPU would be a bottleneck. And i know you said you hate Intel (or love AMD9, but for your own good, think of the alternative. AMD is very good in the price perfomance region, but in the perfomance region...
