A lass in the office has a 1.6 and other than general wear and tear items hasn't had a problem with it... if you exclude bodywork like a golf ball and a constantly flat battery because she keeps leaving the lights on.

She took it to Rosedale Abbey for a glamping holiday t'other weekend and it held more gear than I have in my house. I know this because she got it stuck on a muddy field and her other half was too camp to get mud on his shoes so I was called to tow them out. Honestly you've never seen so much stuff stuffed into a small car.

It'd be rude not to: Linkage

Quote from hyntty :Yes you can, sis had a focus estate that spent more time in the shop than on the road :|

Then she got a poo one or isn't taking care of it.

Depends how far back you have to go. The recent ones have been quite good, I'd actually go as far as to say the last 2 cycles of Astras and Focuses have been better made than Golfs [insert VAG fanboys here]. All we do with GM cars these days is remove the Opel badge and replace it with a Vauxhall one. This is made easier as GM dropped the Vauxhall V on the grill.

It has lead to Vauxhalls being much better made.

The rear arches are still rust prone on Focuses though, you'd think they'd sort that by now.

That makes sense, I've tried parking my truck in York. Biggest mistake ever.

[edit: Quick look on AutoTrader, you'd struggle to get a good Astra in your price range. Go Focus instead.]

Can't go wrong with a Focus.

I was going to suggest a Mondeo, but I suspect that'd be problematic with your dog.

What is wrong with estates? The 5 series touring is a hoot to drive. If you're feeling frugal, an Audi 80 or A4 estate.

But as you're limited to hatchbacks, Astra, Focus, Golf. Take your pick. Anything else wouldn't have a decent amount of boot space.

Quote from danthebangerboy :I didnt realise that it was a legal obligation to have an airbag, and was only a fail if the light was on?

That was the case until new EU regulations came into force. Every safety device your vehicle is fitted with when it left the factory has to be in place when it goes for an MoT Test. There are exceptions, such as a full time track slag that needs to be road legal, but Daniel's car doesn't count as a full time track slag, so will fail.

[edit: For additional fun, if your speedo is obscured by the wheel when at a central position, it is a fail too.]

Huh, gave my truck an intense service (180k on the clock). The diff oil was like tar which probably explained why it went like shit cold (took a lot of cycles of brake cleaner and blasting it out with an air line to get the diffs running clear). The rad was full of all sorts of crud which needed flushing out, anti-freeze was so watered down it only went down to -7c and the fuel filter had seen better days. Probably should've got the service done a lot earlier.

Drives very differently now, I used to need full throttle to get out of a junction, now full throttle causes traction control to kick in.

Just need to finish the conversion back to air springs, I am not enjoying the coils at all.

Quote from lukelfs :Bahah, 200mph Rally car

Duh, it is a Subaru, everyone knows they only make rally cars and it was customised so must do at least a bajillion miles an hour! Also, I bet they are on dole and immigrants, coming over here, pushing up house prices and stealing our jobs. Sorry, got caught up in the Mail mentality.

Quote from Jakg :I know I certainly wouldn't want to swap to an older, less valuable, less fuel efficient car atm.

Value, age and fuel efficiency have nothing to do with what car you desire though. I've been cruising around in my RR for about a year now and I'd still happily trade it in for a good condition Escort Van (it'd have to be a TD this time though, N/A was a nightmare). Just because I like them. The RR was my dream car, but I had more fun in my old van.

You probably don't get it since you're driving your granddads car.

Simple, run the FORGOTPASSWORD, get a new one, he is locked out. Jobs a gooden. But since you need access to your e-mail to setup a paypal account, I'd change the password on that too.

I've got invited for the Super Pro round at Silverstone 2nd of september. Probably will that one to. **** I need tyre sponsors now, tyres go like mad with my driving style

It is quite interesting to watch how things have progressed. It wasn't that long ago you was driving around a damp carpark for a bit of a lark. Now you're taking on the big boys and schooling them on their own turf. Congrats.

Quote from Jakg :F1 cars have got ~900-1000 HP from a 1.5 turbo engine, however reliability is always a concern (i.e. they would last a single race). Production wise, all I can think of was the FQ4000 - but this *had* to be run on 99RON fuel and had a service interval every 7,500 miles.

However, with big enough turbos it's possible to get pretty much any power from any engine (reliability aside).

The 1.6 engines they are switching to will be V6, single spooler, generate 700hp and have to last longer than the current V8s.

And 7,500 miles is a long way for a supercar. IIRC, the F355 is around 4,000 miles.

I got stance. My truck can go so low the chassis rails are almost dragging on the ground or high enough that I can drive over most stanceworks cars without any issue. Yay for airbags.

Quote from Scrabby :And it's manual.... in USA?

Nice!

Strangely, the USA is saving the manual. Demand is getting so big over there, they are the only country that gets the M5 with a three pedal setup. The rest of the world still only gets two. Which is weird.

New front right headlight cluster. I thought my MoT test was next month, but it turns out it was actually on Wednesday and I know it'll fail for a cracked lens.

But because I didn't know it was Wednesday, I need to actually book it in somewhere on very short notice. Not sure my boss will be happy as we're short staffed as it is. But what can you do, eh? These things happen and my truck needs to be road legal.

The Mk6 RS2000 did look like a normal Escort, only difference was engine, gearbox, suspension and wheels. And that visible spoke does look like the RS2k alloy.

Though given the event, it is probably just a 1.4l.

Quote from The Very End :Mother of god... who did you kill?!

That is exactly what everyone in the office asked when I turned up for work. Given it is a casual jeans and t-shirt office, they were quite surprised to see me in my suit. But then they have accused me of being a murder for months.
