haha i remember him taking that thing out on one of the charity cruises, i was stoked, because i knew that he would just have the edge over cop attention than me in my track car haha. permits only work so far before a cop finds something else to rape u over when driving a track car on the street.

Quote from Klutch :only fakes i can tolerate are rota grid's

concave goodness for cheap. nom nom

BLASPHEMY!!

rota's are the worst of the worst, although i admit they look the part, anyone who knows wheels know ROTA's have just about the worst reputation as far as failures go.

Quote from EeekiE :Yeah and it also puts more 'load' on the fuel tank, so what?

I said each to their own. If it makes you happy, then go for it. I just can't understand it myself. Maybe the idea of a track day seems nonsensical to you. But if you want to:

The difference is, a sports car was conceived in the idea that it will be doing track type driving. They're usually useless as a passenger vehicle compared to some average car. Especially the RX-7, as its best power comes from high in the rev range. Something not suited as well to street driving.

To have one, and to not use it as it was designed is pointless in my opinion. It's like getting sniper rifle with accurate scope, and only using it loosely aimed in the air as a starter pistol or something. Yes it can do that TOO, but it's missing the point.

The only thing being consumed is consumables. Namely, brakes, fuel and tyres. All of which are being treated better than with doing a burn out in fact.
The brakes are never used for more than a few seconds before they have the chance to cool again, so they're not going to glaze or boil the brake fluid.
The engine isn't bouncing off a limiter or heat soaking through lack of cooling.
The tyres too aren't being overheated and scrubbed, so aren't wearing at a pointlessly high rate.
The suspension is actually getting less wear that it would being driven on the roads too where I come from, but that's a different story...

It's also a lot more fun (to me) and a lot more challenging (to everyone). There's also a longer duration of that fun for the same wear.
If it even IS the same wear, as my brakes, nor engine, nor tyres are never working over their designed working temperatures.
It won't be a linear thing either, it will be exponential where something operating in it's working range, lasts far longer than something operating outside of it.

I do one track day a year, so I guess it depends how often people do this kind of thing.

And finally, and most importantly I think, the kind of person lacking this much mechanical sympathy doubtlessly drives harder on the roads than I probably do on the track.

you think to much, skids are fun.

saying that i dont do burnouts outside of line up for battles, as i just cant afford it lol

Quote from Klutch :Wow, you guys have noise restrictions on race tracks? wtf?

we actually have them here in aus man, but generally they are measured from the stands, so 90db from the stands ur car has the be ****ing loud as that's the same volume as putting ur ear right up against the tip of a car with a "sports" exhaust

marulan gets raped with sound restrictions, people are putting "sports" exhausts on full race cars and plumbing their screamers back in.

i also noticed walking through the pits in the D1 tokyo event they were all running this weird rota style exhaust tip that bends down to point towards the ground, makes sense i guess as they are literally drifting in a car-park in the middle of a city.

Quote from Scrabby :

could look dope, too mexican atm, needs guard pull and low.

Quote from theirishnoob :, Regardless who you are, first car is always a cheap banger to rally for a few weeks then you upgrade.

i saved up since i was 12 to buy a R32 Skyline, still have it to this day.

Quote from Klutch :most common problems for misfire's will be cracked coilpacks (They crack over time due to heat) and old/dirty spark plugs. If you have the time, these can easily be checked by yourself.
Though you can get more annoying problems like a loose ground or split vaccum hose which are harder to find and fix

I accidently left a ground off when changing out a flywheel and clutch on my mates rx7 and wondered why it was misfiring above 5k rpm
whoopsies lol

you could be right, but usually coilpacks go in a uniform way, when they start playing up they often stop working completely, and it will be a consistent miss, rather than breaking down under load.

Quote from G!NhO :uhmm it doesnt go further in rpms, kinda seems like a rev limiter with a few backfires. Sorry but i am kinda noob at this, and you guys seem to know alot.

assuming it is EFI, this sounds like a reading issue, either a sensor busted or a possibly a big vacuum line leak. do they run air flow meters? if so my $$ is on that being busted.

Quote from Jakg :If you have the money for a Lambo etc, your probably going to be able to stump up for a trackday / track car which is going to hit the spot in a way LFS never can.

track days cost like $100 here in aus, they aren't exactly reserved for the rich only. i know tonnes of track day regulars who play LFS as well.

Damn attention whores. Reminds me of this one guy with his ford gt not too long ago

what's wrong with that? LFS is the best racing sim IMO, it's not like there is a premium sim for guys with 100,000's of $$.

not sure why owning an expensive cars mean u wouldnt wanna still use race sims.

Quote from mamoru :and you are the one to say that because?? You just told me to respect others opinion but you don't respect mine, nice theory.

you are ignorant for believing a car's sole purpose can only be practical transport.

that's nice, not being a car enthusiast doesnt make u any less ignorant here, it just makes it slightly more understandable as to why u'd be ignorant.

how about just appreciate that they are out there, and for them cars are more than just a means of transport.

Quote from Shotglass :yeah its totally nerdy to expect a car to actually work as a car

this site is based around race sim, so my guess is we're all motorsport fans. do u think Le'mans cars are designed to go up driveways? before i get the "they arent road cars" speech, look at hypercars, anyone remember that episode of top gear where they cant get out of that car park? does this mean lambo's and fezza's are shit?

cars are built for different purposes, not all of them are built to get susie down to the grocery store day after day, some are built for enjoyment, in this case practicality often takes a back seat.

i'd expect the practicality speech from my mum, not a car enthusiast based forum.

Quote from TehPaws3D :Says the person that has a car drifting as a avatar

wow, you just managed to make no sense.

btw, no need to take offense to being a nerd, i'll admit i'm one, but coming onto a car enthusiast based forum and giving people shit for owning low impractical cars takes the cake as far as nerdyness goes lol

didnt see this before, looks good, id lose the wing, some new rims, (19x11 and 19x10, VIP dish haha) or 18x10 AVS's or something if its skid orientated.

and yeh HKS coilovers have a bit of a rep for just breaking, still happens fairly rarely, but afaik their cheaper stuff is outsourced from taiwan, it's their expensive stuff which is ohlins i think, maybe bilstein.

Quote from Klutch :do you people really think im this stupid or something?

this was a temporarily solution!
I've already said this.

We HAD to do it because we couldn't ACTUALLY drive the car because it was rubbing against the tyres that bad.

When i get the the time (Later today, as its only 9am) they'll be getting rolled properly because i actually have access to the tools now.
Along with that, the paint cracks will be sanded down, Primered, then pressure packed.

lol, rust takes ages to actually do anything, unless ur worried about the cosmetics of it, there's no rush to do anything about it.

haha for me it is my guard puller out at the track when i tag tyres on the way through, ****ers pull my guards in onto my fronts which i have to run out wide due to modified knuckles. cant afford to **** fronties as my sponsors isnt a huge fan of giving high end tyres away haha. hands only do so much in the line up, back in the pits the guards get an official raping haha

Also had to kinda roll the guards a tad because there was about 1mm clearance...

so what better way than a jack handle? >_>

haha nicely done, i value my jack handle almost as much as the jack itself haha

one of my fav pics, on the ground my RB20 32 4dr (pride and joy), next to it on the hoist is what is left of my RB26 32 2dr (missile) after being cut up and shipped back. not long after this the RB26, T78 kit and all of the support mods were stripped out and sold for a healthy sum which goes towards my trip coming up in november back there.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j121/nisskid/32copy.jpg

i'll have 2 more cars soon to share with you guys, hoping for another R32 as a missile, and a C33 laurel which will be my streeter to get around Japan and drift the touge's over there (amazing).

a tribute to my 2dr 32 which gave me many memories, which is now a pile of metal in my backyard:

when i first bought it:
http://i79.photobucket.com/alb ... 7013_520517013_357989.jpg

in the carpark to the mountain i worked on, where i layed many a skid at the request of my japanese friend hiro who managed the car park:
http://i79.photobucket.com/alb ... 2013_520517013_357988.jpg

hooray to having to clear this every time i had to drive it:
http://i79.photobucket.com/alb ... 2013_520517013_357988.jpg

a street spot, local to where we worked (i smashed the lower lip skidding here, getting too close to the snow on the ground, so that was the end of that):
http://i79.photobucket.com/alb ... 7013_520517013_358565.jpg

the first real damage, meet and greet with ebisu school courses wall.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hp ... 013_3794700_1894381_n.jpg

waking up to this, the day before i was meant to compete in D1 east division at minami, this meant no competition for me as i still had to pull my gearbox out and fix my clutch, which wasnt happening in that weather. for those who know ebisu, that is the touge course behind me.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hp ... 013_3825832_8342317_n.jpg

smashing over the infamous japanese gutter, takumi does it better than me. unfortunately my igniter module plug decided to come off the module mid drift, cutting complete power to my engine, and sending me into the mountain. nothing to do except hold on and hope damage was minimal haha
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hp ... 013_3885455_4952666_n.jpg

the damage was minimal, just a dented rim, unfortunately it wasnt holding air, but considering what it just went through, i was happy with just a dent, amazing strength. a quick trip down to agent K's and i was rolling again, this was the same day, my first day drifting minami (due to not having a clutch previously)

my mate, who came up, never been in a drift car, took him out on one of the worlds scariest courses, with me, who had never drifted the course before, and has a slight reputation for being wreckless as **** and hitting stuff, hard haha. to this day, i'm yet to have anyone get in my car, and not make contact with something on the track, he was no exception, some big scraped on the minami and north course wall, he took it like a champ however haha
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hp ... 013_3901765_6202839_n.jpg

car started to resemble a proper missile, this is me filling up at petrol station, in the middle of nihonmatsu, still to this day my favourite photo.
