Quote from deggis :What happened 1 hour before the match probably had bigger impact on the team than his absence alone.

Now his doctor has finally admitted he screwed up.

But I agree, the final was an underwhelming end to an underwhelming tournament... what comes to exciting matches, at least compared to Vancouver (NHL ice though) or Torino. Skilled Canada played very defensively, skilled Russia did not play much at all and skilled USA stopped playing in the semifinal. There was a bit more potential.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Well, that's not surprising at all.

Quote from BlueFlame :Quick was on it, shame the US didn't make it through but Canada clearly were better on the night.

I have to agree, Canada kept the puck better and really set up good shots. Didn't even bother watching USA vs Finland because I knew Rask would shut us down after a morale dip like that.

Clint Bowyer did a great job to drive that off, I mean who the hell actually expects someone to land that? On the plus side for casey mears, running out of fuel probably saved his car

Anyways. Finland's goalie is well known for being sensational, he is Tuukka Rask.

Quote from BlueFlame :How often do you watch ice hockey? I mean really? The goal tender is revered as a key player in ANY team.

No you don't say? But how often does a goalie save that many good shots in a game? Maybe you should reread my post and understand I was praising the Latvian goalie as player of the game -period.

You can't win off goal percentage. Latvia's offense did a terrible job to retain possession. Canada fired a low goal percentage but I can count at least a dozen shots that were saved that were great looks. The truth is Latvia's keeper carried them and deserves MVP for that game easily.

Quote from BlueFlame :I'm right because I duly noted it wouldn't be a cake walk, and it wasn't.

the only thing keeping Latvia in that game was the goalkeeper. Score should easily have been 3-1 if not for that lucky save.
Canada shots 16, 19, 19
Latvia shots 6, 5, 2
the simple fact is single digit shots is not enough, especially when most of them were low quality like they were in the third period. All of the shots I saw Canada take were high quality as they looked for space or took advantage of breakaways unlike latvia.
why is a Brit claiming to know anything about hockey?

How are you right? All the numbers are in favor of canada. Latvia's gk is doing great but as we just saw canada is taking control

Quote from BlueFlame :Well I wouldn't write off Latvia just yet, they still have a decent chance to disrupt the US a bit.

Quote from tristancliffe :I don't think the population trends have much to do with it. If we are going to replace coal and oil with something that can last into the future, then nuclear is the only sensible solution. "Renewables" aren't man enough unless every square meter of land and sea is covered in the harmful and inefficient wind farms, solar isn't viable on a massive scale unless and has quite an environmental impact, etc etc.

No, nuclear isn't free from drawbacks, but it has the fewest problems per megawatt output. In my opinion.

Just like electric cars (either pure electric or with range extenders as opposed to current hybrids) are only a flawed stop-gap until something better is invented/discovered/embraced, so current renewables are a short term fix.

Sources? Data? What is your opinion even based off for us to consider any merit to it?
Atleast racerx puts links in his so we know where it comes from.
