Wait,, what? You've lost me there. It is just that, when the square oil cap came off, the engine started to shake like hell for a second and then run back to normal again. A lot of air came out of that hole where the oil cap used to be (at least, where I have to fill the oil.. or.. where I would normally put it in XD )

This is what it all looks like except for that box on the right side (the air filter I presume?) which is flatter and square in my car.

1998 BMW 318i

To describe what I did: I took of the oil filling cap (the square one) on top of the engine and tried to listen. Had to keep my ear a little away from the hole though, or else my ear wouldve been full with gasoline fumes XD

Just checked the engine, it did not like me pulling off that cap and it smelled incredibly like gasoline afterwards. No sucking sound though.

I have no idea what he has put on it. I will check for noises tomorrow and let you know about it. I will bring the car to him next Thursday because my starter is acting funny so I am getting a new one installed.

Been in there today and did not see anything that was out of the ordinary,, just a lot of dirt in that filter in the left front (driver side). I noticed that there was quite some smoke out of the exhaust (but it is pretty cold,, so ya) and that the was some vapor which was black as oil, is this normal?

Also, I turned on all the electrical stuff in the car and noticed that the car was running a little slower when I turned on my high beams. I only dropped once and climbed up right after that again.

So.. for some reason my 1998 E36 is losing power sometimes. It has even gotten so far that it would just turn off while driving.

Today it happened again, it lost power (didn't turn off though!) while driving. Pressing the throttle in a little further made it regain its power again.

Does anyone know what it might be? I was thinking about something along the lines of the Fuel pump, the filter or maybe even the spark plugs?

Those strips weren't on the car at all, so i got 2 from the junkyard but the metal clips holding it in place don't work anymore... So i zip tied on there y0

I couldn't even stand it if those things were on my car :P That is why I hooked my indicator up with a tie on the inside XD

As for mine, i have had a bit of a play, as the rear tyres were shot (surprise surprise) and i think i like the silver foxies better, they seem to suit it more i think.
