Aaaaand... now when I think about my incident on Tuesday, I recall that it was in fact my antivirus's auto-update that made me hit the wall :slap: The program itself crashed later, when I was watching the other guys go (lucky it wasn't during the race, eh?)
Hiya,
I'm the noob with the antivirus I always turn off automatic update before any race, because I know it likes to pop-up in the least expected moments. What happened on Tuesday was something rather different - the antivirus "performed an illegal operation and had to be shut down". Now that was really unexpected and had never happened before. So I hope you understand me. Anyway - I was just asking whether it was possible to start from pits again and I was aware that it was not very likely to happen and I'm absolutely OK with that. You know, random things happen - people get disconnected and we wait for them, so I thought I should try my luck
As to the qualy format - I think it's possible to have the session shortened by 50% without changing the format, but just by improving our efficiency. On Aston there was a situation when Anton asked 5 guys to go out of pits and wait for the signal to go. They were standing there waiting, Anton was chatting (or doing something else[?]). Time wasted. Finally the first one started on his own, and when it was time for the second one to start, Anton called out the first guy, who had been already driving for half a minute or so.
Please understand me right - perhaps over the internet I may sound harsh, rude etc. It's not my intention. I would just like to help improve things. So my suggestion is as follows:
Anton can call out 5 drivers at a time (to go out of pits and wait at the end of pitlane), using the connection list and the semi-personal message - the one you get when you click on someone's name. It will be enough just to say the name and everyone will know what that means. It will also have the nice effect of standing out from normal chat, because of the colours. Once the first driver reaches Tx (choose proper number for x), Anton calls out the next driver and so on. When it's Anton's time to go, an experienced driver (we have a few of them in LXCC) can take his place as race director for those two laps, it shouldn't be a big deal.
What I would not like to happen, is calling people out on track continuously. Just let the whole group finish and then let the next 5 join. "Why?", you might ask. The answer is pretty simple. It would mean pit-lag for someone on their flying lap. Definitely not nice.
As to outlap pace - I think we can rely on common sense here. Believe me when I say that in Polish LFS League (PLLFS), which Kamo mentioned, there are not a lot of people with lots of experience, but there are no incidents during qualy and it really takes a lot less time.
Well, to start with... Qualifying results made me really laugh out loud. My out-lap was like ballet on ice, only better I ended up going up the main straight from almost zero-speed and with dirt on all tires, if memory serves me right. So being able to qualify in second place was really a great surprise, although I understand that there were more faster people who just spun off somewhere.
The race... Well, first 6 laps were pure awesomeness with me battling JJ, GranaT and Rob for the lead. There was some slight contact too and I hope I'll get away with it After lap 6, when I managed to pass JJ, I could concentrate on getting the braking right and settled a decent pace. Nothing more interesting to note.
It was a great race, just because of the first laps, and I have to say the wind is a great thing*
Surely at least one person in charge of the event should be on the server, so...
Dear Someone (Anton?),
could you please setup a broadcast of the race? Pretty please*
* - although I'm not sure I'll be even able to watch it
Hi and sorry to everyone who was affected by my crappy driving. Thanks to my absolute stupidity and ignorance, I was having 12-18fps throughout the race and just wasn't able to control the car properly. I was even honked at by my teammate for blocking him and his LX4
Anyway, my framerate issues seem to be solved now and I hope to have a normal next race with you guys
I really like the idea of each team doing their qual together. Although it will not speed up the process as much as putting 5 players on track would, it would still be 2x faster (brilliant thought of the day, eh?)
And I remember that once in Polish LFS League that Kamo mentioned, someone was blocked by a slower driver who had a spin (it was BF1 @ KY GP Long if memory serves me right).
OK, seems I've made a major breakthrough... In-game settings
I've set "Limit framerate" to "yes/on". I have no idea why I should limit something that is already lacking, but the improvement is HUGE.
For comparison: start of a full-grid race at fern bay (red lights, focus on one car): 28fps -> 44fps. A look down the start straight right after race start: 13fps -> 22fps illepall
Edit: Better than that! I must've changed two settings at a time. It's not the limit framerate setting that's made the difference. It's "minimum sleep" (had it at 20, changed to 10 [some units; ms?]). What's that about?
OK, I'm stuck with this one. Which drivers should I download? I have the following to choose from:
GeFroce and TNT2
GeForce 8800 Series
GeForce Go 7 Series
Quadro
RIVA 128 / 128ZX
I assume the last 2 are not the ones I'm looking for, but how do I know which of the first 3 I should choose?
Anyway I'll go for the 8800 Series but if theyr'e not what I should get please do let me know. Thanks
Edit:
Will adding more RAM help? I mean it should help, but will it be noticeable? If so, what amount should I be aiming at (in terms of cost-effectiveness).
Thanks for the hint, I'll try that tomorrow morning.
Drivers from CD - is that bad? Will check website tomorrow. As for removal of old drivers - I'll make sure with the driver cleaner.
I'm quite sure all the CPU speeds are ok, as both the startup screen (before Windows load) and the hardware manager (or whatever that's called) in Windows show the correct speed (2.08GHz).
I can't see any suspicious processes, although I'm not really an expert on that.
I'll be more than happy to get 75% of that...
Thanks for the hints, tomorrow morning first thing I'll do is check the things I read here.
One more thing - both 3dmark and my brother's games show big improvement over the old card - it's only LFS that seems to see no difference.
I'm experiencing low framerates and I'm not sure why. I'm really hoping to get some advice from you guys.
In short - here's my specs:
AMD Athlon 2800+ (2.08GHz), 512 meg RAM (2x 256; I'm not sure what kind of RAM that is - will check if needed), gf 6800gs (bought today to replace my old radeon 9500).
I saw a few times on the forums, that people with comparable cpu's (sometimes worse than mine) and a better gpu than my radeon9500 reported better performance. My guess was that the radeon was too old and needed replacement. Unfortunately, the gf6800 made a difference in every other game, but not LFS.
So basically my question is - what's wrong? I'd like to underline that the fps for me are really bad (like around 20 with full grid on FE Black) with lots of graphics options set to low (I even have the cars turn into cuboids to improve performance :/ ).
Two more things to note: I'm using patch U28 and I have a sound card integrated with the motherboard - could the bad performance be a sound issue? What should I set in dx-settings in audio acceleration? If I'm missing some vital info, please tell me what to check and I'll be happy to report back, because I'm really desperate to get any improvement.
I voted for racing again with quali results as they were. That's because I had 12 fps and tomorrow I'm getting a new gfx so it can only be better for me
But really you can count my vote as 0.5 for option 2 and 0.5 for option 3
Yesterday I wanted to watch a league race. A few hours before the race we made a test to make sure everything works OK. Then, in the race, the same broadcaster as earlier, with no configuration changes, started a broadcast, but none of the watchers (at least 3 that I know of) received the header. The last message was "Connected". We waited even for several minutes to no avail. Any suggestions what might have been the problem?
I remember playing that game in the night with my neighbour, while waiting for midnight (New Year's Eve). We were both around 10-12 and we were arguing about negotiating corners. I said you should stick to the inside the whole time, cause then you travel the smallest distance, while he said that you should stick to the outside (the whole time ofcourse) so that you can go faster. Was my first serious driving game
Can any of the experienced batracers tell me what setting for mechanical sympathy in BTCC will let me finish a race? I've gone down consecutively from around 40 to 20 and still I had 5 DNF's in 7 races illepall
Hilfe!
Edit: OK, so 2 DNF's were accidents, still... 3 out of 7 with me being very sympathetic...
WOWZ0RZ  :elefant: :drink:
Thanks A LOT, this is great!
edit: I'm getting similar problems as described above. Also, I've got a question: what happens if there are no racers on track? Is any replay data sent then?
Micha, have you, by any chance, met my Circuit Theory professor? Looks pretty much like the red guy. And by circuit theory I mean cables, currents and voltages, not racing tracks. Funny coincidence too
