E torna a coppi...

My way to say -"here we go again"- in a very rubbish and slang italian

If this post is about what i prefer...i'd say grip, period. And the reason its because the car is surely more controllable and predictable if driven this way.And what's more i can't see any point why i should drive a car in a manner it is not meant to be driven.
Otherwise,if the post is meant to find the fastest way around a track, still is grip...all of you can't deny the fact that grip (aka proper and neutral driving, braking in time and neatly driving through a corner) is the best way.Drifting may be more spectacular, but surely isn't the best nor the fastest way to go round a circuit. There are so much reasons why drifting is for show and grip is for times and races
Turning into a notebook...but will it be enough?

After years spent on a desktop pc,i suddenly decided to go for a notebook. That'll give me a bit more freedom while at university (or slavery maybe) and a decent platform to run lfs on.The problem is that MY desktop pc is out and i dont want to spend any more money to fix this or that little bit.
I think im going with an Acer 5520 equipped with a 8600gs.Now the problem is...will it be enough to support lfs and a bit of CAD apps? Will i notice any frame drops?I know lfs doesn't have high requirements but it would be nice to hear about this choice from any of you which maybe own this particular config of notebook. Thanks in advance
One more thing...i tried lfs on a Satellite with a 7600gt or gs (i dont remember) and it ran absolutely fine

Quote from thisnameistaken :Don't buy a used wheel. They're not the sturdiest of peripherals to begin with (although the DFP with Rev.B pedals is pretty reliable) so you don't want some other random clown hammering it for a few months before you get hold of it.

Just buy a new one and save yourself the worry.

Really depends on HOW it was used...

Quote from Dougeh :Thanks for the replies guys - I'll definately try get the DFP - especially as it is only a little bit more expensive than the two wheels I mentioned in my OP.

Trust me,you won't regret it.If you buy it used,try to get a rev. B
cause its the latest and the best, and has bit of problems fixed from the rev. A about the pots in the pedals.

Everyone was a "noob" when he raced for the first times...but try to race at a good pace, learning the car and the track and most important try to finish as much races as you can. Also try not to crash often, cause players may get annoyed. Before you try a combo, take a bit of your time and try it on single player. That'll give you an idea of how a race has to be done.Of course there isn't so much fun racing against AI,so when you feel ready join a server and try to be as consistent as you can.The rest (PB's,wins) will come all by itself.

Quote from Dougeh :Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with using racing wheels on both the PC and PS3. Ive looked through this forum/the web in general but havent really found anything of much help.

I have been playing LFS primarily with a Xbox 360 controller but using it leaves me struggling to keep my turning precise (Its generally over sensitive - or not sensitive enough and wont do a full turn, depending on how I set it up). Even with this, I was enjoying the process enough to get an S2 licence ... but I think its time I got a wheel.

I also play racing games on my PS3 (F1:CE & GT5 eventually hopefully) so would like a wheel that will work on both platforms. I have looked on the internet all over the place, and manufacturers seem very cagey about saying what will and wont work outside of what is officially supported.

The wheels (and price range) I was looking at were:

Formula Force Ex:
http://www.logitech.com/index. ... /devices/270&cl=gb,en

or at a stretch:

Driving Force Ex:
http://www.logitech.com/index. ... devices/3833&cl=gb,en

Can anyone confirm or comment on either or theses compatability with both platforms? it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I suggest you to go for a DFP which is (despite what is said both on logitech site and on wheel's package) both for PC and PS3.It surely is better than the two you said in your post,i have it and i love it.

Quote from Osco :Personally, I love the fox, but feels a bit tame compared to the fbm. A little more oomph wouldn't hurt I guess (210-215hp?)

I love it too as you know but apart from the ugly noise it makes,it surely needs more power that may come either from a power increase or from changes in aerodynamics.

Go karts with nice tracks to run onto.
Trucks could be fun.But i think they'll need wider circuits also...

Big NO.
Its pointless. If anyone feels the need to have a license (apart from the one in real life) CTRA would be really happy to host you i think.
I think that if you build your reputation and skills on a track with many other racers is still more fun.Im still finding quite hard to learn a decent number of tracks on FOX because i dont have much time (i can race mostly on weekends due to university) and i really want to enter a league.

I changed my mind while you were editing.Im sorry if im not letting you rest tonight
Last thing i want is to change the fiat logo in the red part and replace it with a white logo maybe that covers both green and red. Also i insist to put your name or website some where on the car because its YOUR work and i appreciate if you take your credits for that.

Here's my request for the bored skinners of the forum.
I need a personal skin because im tired of using other racers ones, and known the fact that i know ABSOLUTELY nothing about skinning a car,i am here to find some help.
Here's some informations about what i need.

Car:Formula XR
Colour:white colour in the front half and red and green stripes in the rear half.
Logos:Any ITALIAN logo its perfect(find them on http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ and sort by nation).I would really appreciate to have the new FIAT logo in the white half.No football related logos because i hate it .
I think its all.If there's anyone who has some free time and wants to help me out it would be nice.I dont rush, cause i dont need it quickly.Answer back if you are interested,or if you want some more infos.Thank in advance.

Still i can't understand why the wheels are painted in that hideous way.Reminds me of a car that used to park near my house at university, which had rear drum brakes but thanks to really horrible rims they looked like it had discs. They were like ehm...rims with some spokes...with a big metal disk behind them.Hope you (better if you don't) got the idea.

Quote from MasterofDrift :wow i can't really belive half of these people don't know this(not that im blaming). If you acutly read the training stuff it says multiplayer racing bannes ABS.ABS is a eletricronic system that if ur wheels lock up it pumps the break so that u can turn.with out ABS u can't turn at all untill u realise the brakes it self.

ABS is an electonic device which constantly monitors the speed of your wheels and whenever one or more lock up it just gives less braking force so the wheel is moving again letting you have certainly more grip. That's not right to say that the lock up won't let you turn the wheels at all.It just says (because a locked wheel surely has less grip of a moving one because its relative speed to the ground second by second is 0) that turning isn't effective in this case unless you rapidly release them.It also says that a lockep up wheel increases braking spaces for the same reason as above. So its a nice aid for road cars but really not needed in races because racers know where the limit separating hardbraking and lockup is.

Quote from nikimere :Cool, thanks for the help. It's my birthday in a few days so this will be going on my list!

Congratulations for the double achievement then

If you care Powercolor has produced a HD3850 with a Zerotherm heatsink and fan on it which is incredibly efficient and cool (in both meanings:razz. If you can, then go for it as you may reach the bigger sister frequencies just by overclocking it a little while keeping the card still cool and safe.

Then you will be satisfied with the 256 version. My X1650 pro is already good for LFS and surely the 3850 is on another planet compared to this

HD3850 as i said in my previous post.It just cant be beat in price/performance ratio

Still you have to consider any other game you might be playing in the near future. But if you won't go over 1280*1024 the version with 256 MB is fairly enough to compete with almost every game on sale today.
