Well you can't do it by skipping only since ping plays a big issue there.
Racing out of U.S., everyone to me skips quite a bit since most people as well as servers are from other continents.

Quote from Bandit77 :hmm... we have 26 different number-plates. and the one for the front isn't the same as the one for the rear.

Lol yeah, I just thought about the standard U.S. plates and there's one for every state. This is besides the sports (NBA, NFL, etc) and special case plates.

I think a small flag will do just fine

Quote from Shinomori :They don't actually have plates, but the same text that would go on your plate on any other car is on the car where the driver's name would go.

Usually that's fine. Alot of the F1 liveries, for example, have logos there and it looks really bad w/ the text over the top of it.
So a little check to not show plate text on each skin would be nice.

If you leave the plate text empty, does LFS put in the generic "S2" on the SS?
As I don't really look at the cars from the outside while racing (at least not my own) I'm not sure what certain things look like (sad considering I've been racing LFS for a LONG time :shrug

Quote from Shinomori :To add to this: There should be a checkbox under the color set to not show the license plate at all on that particular skin/color scheme. Mainly for the single seaters where it can mess up the look of the skin.

Last I looked, SS didn't have plates.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

All you have to do is watch the RPM's when looking for the grip point.
If coded correctly, your RPM would go down just a tad and the car would change the tone a bit as you realease the clutch while holding the brake. Same as in RL when moving from standstill on a hill (e-brake or brake)
Since g-force feel is not possible without a sim chair, it would be helpfull to have a FF clutch peddal (however unrealistic with newer cars). Sadly, consumer wheels don't feature such a feature.

As far as stalling, most mid size and small cars (in european terms, not U.S. ) don't stall on slow speeds. All cars that I ever owned could be driven on clutch and idle only without stalling even up small hills.

My respect for certain forum members just died a bit in this thread.

Guilty until proven innocent, indeed.

BTW, people don't always use flags of countries they live in but rather countries they are originaly from.

This elite behaviour reminds me why I only made 180-sih posts since 2005.

I think an optional country flag is indeed a good idea.
Skinning is fine in theory, but we all have seem some issues with it in practice (inappropriate images & words, skin stealing, etc).

Additionally bandwidth, however small, tends to build up in terms of cost.

Using a built in flag or country licence plates wouldn't cause this issue since they would ship with the game. They would also be "safe" in terms of content.

Now a slight 3d effect might just make this toy a steal.
I've been checking some review and only read good things about.
Seems to be very responsive, minimal response lag and very smooth and easy on the eyes.

Still can't judge it before I test it though....all I have to do now is find a place that has it on display.

Setting FFB at 200% induces a lot of clipping so that's never a good idea if you wish to know what's going on with the road.
I'd also suggest running profiler as it sets your wheel correctly.

Contrary to most suggestions, I run 49% in profiler and 90%-100% in LFS (only need less then 100% in GTR's).
This has a dual purpose for me.
First, it feels much more natural as well as precise. I can feel much more detail then I could with profiler on 104% and LFS at whatever. Slides are cought easier as well.
Another reason is that with this, the wheel feels like it applies less FF the closer you are to the center thus almost eleminating the wobble as well as the wiggle spot (the annoying no FF spot close to center).
Give it a shot and see if you grow to like it.
I'm using a DFP btw (latest release bought not even 3 months ago)

Quote from Jakg :Is it a TFT or a CRT? If it's a TFT then your best bet is to run it at the native resolution anyway.

Generally, all LCD's, not just TFT, need to be run at native. LCD is not scalable as CRT's.

Have fun and buy a bigger monitor.

Welcome and enjoy the addiction.
Also, don't worry about the deserted servers for US players. I never have trouble finding at least 5 servers with 10is players on each...5X that on weekends.

60Hz is fine for LCD screens that size (or any size for that matter) my only concern is the "low" res but I would need to see it to judge it.
There would be some eye strain, as it seems inherent in such devices, but then again you shouldn't be playing all night anyway

The demo dude mentioned something about 3d but it's either a false statement or it requires game support for 3d. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Nice find.
While it's a pricey gadget, it sure looks like loads of fun as well as usability.
Any info on that the preceived view size is?

Just give it a bit time and the server will get more populated. I'm so sad about my timezone compared to the majorities, hence why I've missed the races, but I'll still do my best to catch a few.

@mazz
Once you get used to the LX and find a stable set, close battles are very possible and very fun with that class. The sets in this thread are extremly good for getting started.
To me it's the fact that's close to impossible to run several laps 100% the same (like with the FOX for example) so the fights end up being very fun and twitchy.

Hope to see some of you there soon.

I was a bit pissy when I wrote that but I still stand by my comment (worded differently of course)
Chances are, most of the people accusing and posting flaming bananas have at least 2 cracked pieces of software or use p2p clients for music or movies.
Second, someone cracking LFS isn't money in or out of YOUR pocket.

So why the concern?

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone cracking and stealing. I'm one of the rare people that still buy music and rent movies as well as buy software. However, I don't see myself in the position to police forums after crackers.
We have devs and mods for that.

P.S. The latest census shows that the vast majority of people that have cracked LFS have bought it shortly after trying the full version. Can you say the same about the demo leeches?
I guess I'm just getting a bit sick and tired of the forum l33t-ness lately.

Im in on LX @ SO or BL or anything really. Love that class. My only issue is time.
We're not in the same timezone so that makes it a bit iffy.
Anywho, I'll see what can be done. If all else fails, there's always weekends.

I think it's time to go back to good old-fashined banning.

Why someone would pay 24BP to go around crashing servers is beyond me.

Shift+Ctrl during replay and chack the name against member database before you guys go accusing the guy of cracking.
And even if he did, that's Scawens worry, not yours. (not speaking about mods of course, it's your worry as well).

Slicks are slighty funny in drift since they don't always behave they way you'd expect them to. Thay also burn way too fast making them last no longer then one lap in most cases. Since the FXR is AWD control is not a huge problem but tires are.
However, using slickmod, it should be possible to equip the FXR with street tires and have a lot of fun.

Niko really fudged that one up it seems.
While it wasn't an easy task to begin with, having someone like him on really shows you the power of one moron. Ah well.
Great job and I can't wait to see the final result.

Quote from Moonclaw :In my opinion K1 Attack Roadster looks and sounds a lot better.

http://www.k1roadster.nl/

Original K1 attack was based on honda accord donor car but I think the newer uses only the engine from ford mondeo.

Now THATS what we need in LFS. Looks like loads of fun and grip.

I live in NYC (live in Brooklyn, work in Manhattan) and everyone IS out to get you here. Roads are crap and taxi's are beyond dangerous. It's till a lot of fun riding the white line while everyonr else is stuck.
FUnny thing is, I never crashed since I moved to NYC. Knock on wood, indeed.

I'm not sure why people put the RAC and the LX's in the same boat.
Yes, both are twitchy, but for very different reasons.
LX's are lightweight and powerfull. Weight in the far frint and power on the light back.
However, this makes it the ultimate RWD experience, and with a bit of practice and a decent set, it's the most balanced class in LFS, imo.
RAC on the other hand is twitchy due to a complete lack of balance. It does have power....I simply love the RAC engine in LFS. However, the suspension, steering, grip, etc are as unbalanced as it gets.

I'll still race it......as long as it has a set of wheels on it, I'll race it

Quote from Jakg :Nope, the great thing about a 50cc is that you can ride them at 16 (have to be 17 to even get a restricted 125) and that you can ride them with just on day's training

Oh I'm sorry.
I guess I assumed we were a similar age.
My bad. Well maybe a better set of rubber will help, although nothing beats practice.
Enjoy the ride.

Jakg, if you can get a bigger bike.
I had a aprilia 80cc when I first started riding and that thing was nothing but trouble. Powerless crotch rocket. It's the only bike I crashed.....often!
My next was a 1972 Sportster (harley baby) and it's nothing but pure joy, just not quite as sporty. However, I realised that crotch-rpckets are just boring and too twitchy, aside from uncomfortable.
So I finally settled on a XB9 (buell streetfighter) and dude, what joy. It beyond safe as you can feel every little nick on the road. The seating position make it idiot proof and as confy as you can get on a sports bike. Did I mention it has power beyong what you can even think of using yet rides just fine on city limits.

Stay safe man.

First off, set draw ahead in your card to very low or 0 (this can be done with card tweaking software). This will make the visuals much more dirrect.
Also, look into "real-feel". it makes the FF feel much better.
Make sure you're running the desired version of DX as well. rF can go 7 8 or 9 (I think it can do 9?). It all depends on your system.
I do agree that it requires a much detailed setup process compared to LFS, but then again, no game was ever this easy to setup (ET, Quake, Nexuiz, rF, GPL, etc require a lengthy setup to get where you want).
