The simple awnser is this. We need a masive autocross area in LFS so we can replicate the Top Gear test track, an old airfield. Then they can test the Race About in both LFS and in real life. That would be the easiest to do aside from building and auto cross track in real life and LFS and running to two head to head in that venue.

The tools are there just takes some one to get them to do it. Having direct data between the two would also be a benifit to LFS as far as getting the physics nailed down better.

Club LX West and the Spec LX Series

I use to dislike the LX4 & LX6 in S1, they were difficult to drive and hard to master, at least for me. Since S2 has been released I have come to enjoy these two cars very much. They are still a little temperamental and at times prone to bite back, but they can be tamed enough to make them rather fun and rewarding to drive. They are a true sports car in the classic description, Light, Quick & Responsive. I am now considering putting together a racing club and if there is enough interest a race series dedicated to these two cars. As I am located in the US and there are few dedicated clubs and series based in N/A this project will be initially geared towards player in this region of the world.

Club LX West:

This club will be a loose and flex able group of people, there will be few guidelines and rules. It will be a place for people with a love for the LX to gather, race and have fun, nothing more, nothing less. My goal is to provide this club with a forum website and a server or two. With that I will leave the club in the hands of its members to organize their own fun races and events as they choose.

Spec LX Series:

This race series will be developed if there is enough interest in Club LX and in an organized racing series. If it proves to be a desired event I will build a race series around the LX6 (using slicks if possible) and with a similar feel to real club racing series like the SCCA’s Spec Miata class.

The Current State:

At this point all this is just a goal. I will be honest and say I can not do this alone. I lack the skill, resources and time to make this happen on my own. To get things started I need a few people that can help me put this together and provide resources. I am trying to do this as a zero budget project. If there is anyone who is interested in helping and has skills, resources or time they can offer please drop me a PM and we shall see of we can make this happen. To get things rolling a Website and Race Server are the first priority.

Thank you all to those that are interested and I hope to get things up and running soon.

Edit:

Ok the server is up on a temporty host thanks to my team.

Ok that is just scary. After reading that article I am not sure I can trust any files anymore.

Given the content of the article he liknked I can over look the use of CAPS.

Yet one more reason to rebuild my computer from the ground up.

I can make my own skins thats not an issue. Though mine are not a professional looking as some. I was just noticing that there is a distinct lack of avalable choices for these two cars when compaired to the other vehicles. Most of the good skinners are not currently making skins for them.

I was just trying to give them a little shove and see if they will produce. I have been having a blast in the LX4 this last week but most people are running base skins and the variation during a race is slim.

Alright why is no one making skins for the LXs, these are a becoming a fun class, especialy the LX4. I pose a challange to the great skinners in our comunity.

Build us a complete LX4/6 race grid worthy of your skills.

This thread is starting to slip. We can't have that.

If there is one car in LFS and really suprized me in its handeling and shear fun factor it is the XF GTR. It has a just the right combination of weight, power and grip to nmake for some really fun races. I would really like to see in the future, a Front engine, RWD car added which has about the same specs as the XF GTR. I do not care if its a Sedan, Family Coupe (Not a Fastback like the XR) or Roadster like a Miata. An AWD in the same size/weight/power class would also be a great addition for Rallycross. Any car added shoudl have Two trims, street and racce prepped.

The current system is just fine but needs more options. Making the system any more complex (requiring more keys to control) makes no sence. Up and Down to select item and Left and Right to alter item is nice, easy to understand and works well. The number of options we have to each setting or the number of items may need to be looked at but not the way it is controled.

I thought there was an option in LFS to disable Skin downloads.

Its also an added challange to the faster drivers as every win makes the next more diffacult.

Quote from micha1980de :about balancing cars, imo the 3 gtr cars aren't that balanced cause the fzr has a higher power output than the other 2.

for example try to break 0:39.xx on the Kyoto_oval with the xrr, or the fxr.

mybee caused by my low-expierence or by the v6 in the fzr, i could not compete against it, using one of the other two
am i completely wrong or does someone actually agree to that?

it's pretty much like the "highlander" hook "there can only be one" or sth. like that, i've never seen the engl. original.

FZR: 490bhp, 371lbft, 2425lbs, 452bhp/ton
XXR: 490bhp, 462lbft, 2424lbs, 453bhp/ton
FXR: 490bhp, 462lbft, 2492lbs, 441bhp/ton

Those are the GTR specs from LFS. This tells me that the all cars have the same HP, the FZR is low on torque, and the FXR is too heavy. If you look at the numbers only the XRR has the best power weight advantage and should win most if not all the races. The XXR and FZR are closely matched, but in a long race with equaly skilled drivers the XXR will win on tire ware and fuel use. The FXR is only going to win on tight twisty tracks. For some reason the FZR eats tires and fuel like there is no tomarrow, despite being the same weight and producing the same HP but far less torque. It often will need to stop 3 times for every 2 times the other two need to.

As promised The Roadsters Unleashed. I will add the LX6 later when I rebuild the set. The RAC is still a little tempermental but much better then it use to be. All will need slight adjustment to camber and tire pressure from track to track. Idealy you want to tires to have even heat at their inside edges and centers at or within 10F above optiimal temps after three laps.

There are a lot of cars I woudl like to see a race prepped spec miata or FFR Cobra would be great. The honda S2000 is also a good choice to model a LFS car around.

As for the LXs and the RAC, with the right set they are a dream. Later after I get home I will post my LX4 and RAC sets for you all to play with and to show you the cars are the dreamlike little sports cars you hoped they would be. Took a long time to sort them out but it was worth it.

Well the underlying issue is that the sound system in LFS is completely synthesized. This means that none of the sounds are samples and are all generated on the fly. They just need to improve the complexity of the sound system in order to better synthesize the sounds a car makes. I don’t see this happening until late in S3 as a one of the final touches.

Quote from Kid_Paddle :thanks scawen, that reassures me

@Axus : I don't find LFS hard to drive (it would be the opposite in fact, look @ my times, and results in ESCC )
the problems with the tyre is in the grip, and the way cars are loosing it
in LFS, the loss of grip, and it's recovery seems to be linear, you loose it step by step, and you recover it step by step, and the problem of gip at low speed should comes from this
in a real car, especially with slicks tyres, the loss of grip comes suddenly, and it is possible to catch up with only small errors
so in lfs, to be fast we are always sliding a lot, and it makes the tyres warm
look at real racing, they are not sliding like this (of course they slide a bit )

I have done some experimanting lately and I think most of the weirdness we think is in the physics is nothing more then poor or incorrect unrealistic setups. This is not the place to go in to these things so I will leave it for another thread dedicated to the topic.

Yea it was a blast running there, close races many lead changes, some sweet passing and drifting, though not all intenional. I am definatly looking forward to the next time.

And for all of you that think the RAC is an untameable beast I have a present for you. I offer for your racing pleasure a forgiving but quick RAC. Don't question the unkown, embrace it, take it for a spin, and put 20 laps on it before to start to make changes. I am by no means fast but I hit a 1:54 with it on Westhill International Reversed. I know some of you out there can push it further and shatter the current WR.

I will skip the open wheel days but the other 3 sound like fun. I am having more fun in the RAC now then the FZR.

Quote from Scawen :Not sure if it's the same sound. With mine the flushing is ok but if the service valve isn't turned down, it's the refilling that makes the noise, it's a huge vibration sound, kind of like a bass note of an organ or like a fog horn, like there's a ship arriving in the port or something.

By chance Scawen do you not have a Surge Arrester or air chamber on that feed? I am guessing you do not. The air chamber acts as a damper to even out the pressure in the line preventing or reducing the vibration that can be caused in the water lines and is likely causeing the noise. If you have already sealed up the wall you may have to live with it, if not maybe you could add one first.

This issue is refered to as "Water Hammer".

Quote from Fonnybone :Oh cool, another place for me to spread the word. I'm thinking of making a
simple app, with a few buttons to mod servers/clients easily and with
minimal fuss. What i need is MecaniK presets turning the cars into
any form of spec racing where power/weight , etc... come close, but
more importantly, most (if not all) cars on the cartype must work.
I'm mostly thinking of cartype1 here. I posted an updated MecaniK with
a ReadMe that has an easy chart of the cars/cartypes.

The F1 and WRC presets included are attempts at making realistic
racing series where the cars are tuned to specs while remaining
somewhat competitive. Just tuning the FO8 slightly to get closer
to an F1 feels awesome, i'd just like to do more online races,
AIs just can't drive properly !!!

Anyways, for the people interested, see what you come up with.
I'll insist on 'real' racing series though. No restriction on era really,
but it should feel realistic to drive as much as possible. For example,
i had this flash of the LX-twins modded into those old 'formula' cars,
from the 30s or something, you know, à la GPL.

Ok, when I get home I will give this a go and try to make the RAC in to a NASA, FFR Spec Cobra. To do it properly though I will need to be able to move the engine and install a V8.

Currently the Guru Public server is set to LX4, LX6, RAC and FZ5. Starting the first of January there will also be a new Guru server dedicated to one class of car for 3 months at a time in support of a project we are working on.

The racing over at Deadman Racing has always been good fun though, go check them out.
