I'm sorry, but Cisco hardware is still and always will be exorbitantly expensive. Now that isn't to say that there aren't other vendors, but the majority will use Cisco.
The problems that 500servers are experiencing appear to be network related rather than server related, so the choice of operating system is somewhat irrelavant. Although yes, Windoze is garbage, but if you want to play games on your PC and not have to fight with emulators on Linux there isnt really much choice is there. (And consoles really isnt an option!)

Yes, all of the 500servers network appears to be down. This includes customer Webhosting, their own website and all of the game servers.

500control.co.uk still works as it appears to be on a different network and uses different name servers.

Now you can bitch and gripe about this, but you get what you pay for. If you want a service that will never experience problems you need to get real. The internet is built on hardware and bandwidth that is both very expensive and will sometimes go faulty. Equipment and connections can and will develop faults, to build a network that is fully resilient requires at least twice the hardware and bandwidth. This means that to do this the network will be twice as expensive and cost twice as much to run and maintain. In order to sustain this business someone has to pay for the extra hardware and interenet bandwidth, that will be us the customers. The cost of server rental will be significantly higher, then you will bitch about price...

Im sure it is well known within 500servers that there is something major causing network wide problems, they are more than likely dealing with it, but as it happened at the weekend, there will be fewer people available to work on resolving this, and they may not even be able to get replacement hardware until Monday.

Yeah this isnt great, my website has been down since yesterday tea time, the LFS servers I have admin rights on are all down and I am forced to use other server full of halfwits and crashers.

Posting the same messages over and over moaning that stuff being down and it is unacceptable isnt helping and will do nothing to expedite the resolution of this problem.

Quote from z-ro 8 :Highly uneccessary comment.

Agreed, I'm pretty sure that Dean didn't take all the game and web servers down just to spoil your night. There are probably significant network or hardware issues causing this which will be out of Deans hands.
Stupid flipant comments like this don't help anyone.

My freind had an old DFP without the PSU.
We strapped together 2 12v 1.5A PSUs in series to give a 24v PSU capable of powering the DFP.

Glad I horde things like PSU's as it wasn't looking good trying to find a new PSU anywhere...
Well unless we wanted to pay stupid money.

Sorry to hear you are still having issues.
The chipset is the heart and soul of the Motherboard all IO between the CPU, memory, motherboard devices and expansion cards are handled by these chips so the chipset drivers are very important yet often overlooked.
I'm not a big fan of USB headsets to be honest, most PC's will have onbard audio so a traditional analogue headset is my favoured option. Adding a usb headset is essentially adding another sound card to the system which to me seems a little pointless (IMHO).
As the wheel is ok without the headset connected i would wager that there are issues with the headset drivers causing the conflicts but i doubt microshaft would admit to that even if they knew it to be true.
I'd get a cheap analogue headset and either use the onboard audio or get a decent dedicated soundcard.
Personally, I'd unistall the drivers for the wheel and the headset.
Re-install the latest chipset drivers linked above in madcats post and overwrite all the files.
install the wheel software, only plugging the wheel in when asked to during the software install.
Then install the headset software.
reboot after each removal or install step just to make sure there is nothing lingering in memory.
Fingers crossed that will improve things and installing the headset after the wheel may cause the headset not to intefere with the wheel and vice versa.

Good luck, routing for you!

Have you installed the latest Logitech Profiler software from the website, or used the one on the supplied CD?
http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/ ... mp;WT.ac=sc|downloads||dd

Which version of windoze are you running, if using vista or 7 did you run the installer as administrator? Also, I run the profiler as administrator to make sure the vista/7 UAC doesn't balls things up for me.
Are your chipset drivers upto date, I had some weird issues a while ago when I was using older versions of the intel inf (chipset) drivers.

There is obviously also the chance that the wheel is faulty, are you able to try it on another PC and see if it still gets detected as a Driving Force.

Time for me to add my wish list...

The Ring (obvious choice, the definitive track)
Oulton Park
Spa
Zolder
Monza
Donnington
Snetterton
Pikes Peak (if it was possible to make an open track)

They are tracks I'd like to have the luxury of LFS physics to really enjoy, I can race them in other games, but not in LFS
