I don't see how you can "accidently" hits shift s or shift p, unless you have it mapped to the wheel.

Quote from David33 :Carbon dating is generally only useful for previously living material, and its half-life would be too short, anyway, for geological dating. Potassium-argon is the usual geological method.

Here is a link to a description of the method used to measure the age of a material, by measuring the extent of radioactive decay of a component of the material:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiometric_dating

I knew what I ment! :P Doesn't really matter the technique the fact is we have been able to proove that the earth is not 6000 years old :P.

And saying that if you can't afford (or don't want to get) a new steering wheel you should stop playing isn't elitist?

I earn enough to by a g25, that isn't the problem, the problem is right now I:
A: already have a perfectly good working wheel and can't justify spending money on a new one and
B: have better things to spend my money on other then sim racing.

well done gekkibi, you're obviously a winner at life, now you just wait right there whilst I go and dig out your medal.

Gekkibi, what about the simple fact that they'd rather spend thier money on something else?

I got a DFP I paid for LFS and RBR, why should I stick more cash into sim racing? Its just a game, and I have other stuff I want to spend my spare cash on.

OH NOES! I must not be dedicated to the cause of simracing! I MUST QUIT NOW DELETE LFS AND SELL MY LICENSE TO SOME ONE WHO WILL APPRECEATE IT MORE!!!

Sorry :P, but really its just a game for me and for most people, its not a hobby. Gaming is a hobby for me, I play other games as well, and have a 360, should i put all that on hold just to buy a £100 steering wheel which is exactly the same as my current on except for an extra pedal and by all accounts crappy h-shifter?

Quote from pinoykid13 :2. i believe in natural selection. researchers try to say that people evolved from monkeys. i dont believe that personally. because science says that people are 79% dandelion and a bunch of other stuff that i can't remember cause im not ae home.
3. not 100% but i understand his main ideas
5. i think that the king james version of the bible is the most accurate version in english. for example the story of when Jesus was on the cross, 1 of the thiefs on the 2 crosses next to him said, "Lord remember me when you go to heaven." Jesus said,"I say to you, today you will be with me in heaven."

I believe that the real thing should say,"I say to you today, you will be with me in heaven."
its like this saying,

A woman without her man is nothing. versus
A woman, without her, man is nothing

You believe in natural selection, but don't believe we evolved from apes? contry to all the evidence suggesting otherwise?
Still didn't answer my question to what context his research was done in, and why he was right and everyone else who built upon his theorys is wrong.
And the king james version would of been made from other translations, done on others etc etc. so it still won't be accurate, and who cares about a little bit of wrong grammer.

Quote from pinoykid13 :1. carbon dating isn't always accurate. I have tried it at my college. U get one number then when u test again u get a whole different number.
2. darwin was right, other researchers where wrong.
3. there are many arguements concerning this, because not all historians and biologist believe the same thing.
4.
5. i agree with that. if u look up how the bible was printed before the printing press, they were hand written, if there was one mistake the whole book had to be rewritten.

1. Didn't say it was accurate, but it can date stuff to with a few centries or thousands of years, which with the age the earth is nothing.
2. Darwin was right in what way? Other researchers are wrong in what way? Science is based on theories, if you come up with a theory can show it working, then its valid, if someone comes along with a different theory thats more plausable then you where wrong, thats whats great about science, people never accept something just as, they always trying to fix it, make it stronger.
3. Yes arguments, but read what I said and answer what I asked.
So you know what context his research was done in yes?
5 (or 4 now). Which means its proberly more inaccurate then people think. What if they thought the translation was right, but really it muddled things up?

Quote from pinoykid13 :1.How has how many billions of years been proven right?
2.right with wrong idea because people and animals have to adapt to their environments
3.darwin did study life but those who researched after darwin's death took it out of context
4. Paul is a prophet in the Bible and he was roman
5. The word of God=Bible

1. Through the use of carbon dating technology, the layers of sediment adn rock, etc etc, theres lots of ways of proving how old something is.
2. And thats what darwin said, evolution changes a species to live in its envioment. So how was he right with wrong ideas?
3. So you know what context his research was done in yes? and those afterwards presumbly being either historians or bioligests them selves don't.
4. Meh
5. The bible has changed through translation over the years, and now proberly reads alot different in parts, so its the word of god, written down by a few hundred people, then translated over teh centries again and again and again.

Quote from pinoykid13 :I can see that there is mass confusion with beliefs. through what I believe

1. there are 6000 years in world's history.
2. Darwin was right with evolution but had a wrong idea
3. the big bang theory wasn't created till 200 years after darwin's death.
4. Sabbath was changed to Sunday because of Constantine wanting to combine his forces with the christians.
5. I follow the word of God not the words of man.

1. Been proven wrong by science. Were the dinosaur fossils put there by god to confuse us?
2. How can he be right with the wrong idea? Althrough darwin was very relegious and his work caused great conflict with in himself
3. Darwin studied life, not the creation of the universe, so what this has to do with anything I don't know.
4. The bible was proberly writtern by the romans as well.
5. Have you ever heard the word of god?

Quote from Gekkibi :I am willing to pay for ultimate realism. If you don't require as realistic driving simulator as possible, why do you need features like clutch heat, suspension behaviour or traction (The way it is simulated in LFS)? What is left? Semi-realistic driving simulator.

I don't NEED features like you mentioned but they add to the challange, but removing autoclutch whilst adding to this challange would also give other racers who have a clutch pedal a bigger advantage, it might be minor but its still there. I'm not willing to pay for ultimate simulation, and I'm pretty sure you're not, if you are please post pictures of your full motion rig, custom steering wheel and pedals made to order.
And If you what the most realistic driving sim possible why not just go and drive nkP? For me its not just the realism I play LFS for, its the ease of racing against other people, all the support it gets from the devs (not just updates, but LFSworld and the skin system etc) and I feel for alot of people thats the reason they play LFS as well.

Quote from Gekkibi : No, I am not judging you. Wheel without necessary features (Clutch and h-shifter for street cars) is like flight simulator using TAC-2 (It is not analog, does not have force feedback and only has one button).

Imho controller without clutch, h-shifter and less than "enough" turn rate is not for simulators, it is for arcade. My car's wheel turns more than 270 degrees...

I got my wheel a few months into using LFS (just before the G25 was released), before hand I had an old 180 thrustmaster modena, upgraded to a dfp, the best there was at the time, the wheel everyone recommended for sim racing, or I could of splurged out on a top of the range setup, hmm £80 or £1000. Now that wheel is good enough, alot of people still use it, and I'm just not willing to upgrade untill I have enough disposible income to justify it.

Quote from Gekkibi : Edit: Forgot to answer to the main question. If someone can't afford to buy necessary equipments to start any kind of hobby, maybe he should pick other (Cheaper) hobby. Sounds pretty rude, but life isn't fair.

The reason why I choose to play sims, is because real racing isn't cheap. I enjoy gaming, and I enjoy sims, should I just give up because I can't afford the very best? Thats like saying an angler shouldn't fish because he can't afford the very best equipment and go out on a boat in the pacific every time. Alot of hobbiest make do with the equipment they can afford.

edit: ok this proberly is a rant :P

Quote from Gekkibi :Keyboard-users already have this kind of disadvantage.

To put little bit rant into my post, I would say "Real cars with manual transmission has clutch pedal. Why should someone who wants to simulate these cars using computer simulator would use controller without one?"

Because controllers cost pennies, not everyone has the pennies to splurge out on a new controller. Everyone has a limit on how much they're willing to spend on a sim, I don't drive often enough and I'm not fast enough to justify getting a g25 (or that porsche 911 wheel).
To truly simulate these cars you'd need a full motion rig and top of the range wheel/pedal set, are you willing to buy that?

_--NZ--_[HUN]: Indeed I am praticing :P but removing auto clutch will put most people at a disadvantage untill clutch pedals are the standard on wheels.

But that would put everyone with out a clutch pedal at a pretty major disadvantage, button clutch its either full on or off, no control over it really.

Danke, I'm exactly the same, came back to lfs after quite a long break, got in the new car and wondered what the hell was going on whilst trying to flatshift (well i used to have throttle cut on) read the forums, found i just had to lift sorted.... few days later I thought I had somehow stuck throttle cut on again because my timings between letting off the throttle and changing gear was pretty near perfect, so its very easy to adjust.

Now throttle blipping I just can't get my head around, but that maybe something to do with using autoclutch, it just seems to change gear to quick for me to blip. Is it actually worth blipping all the time in the formula cars?

Duiletter: I think that would be pretty cool for a start, and would fit in well with the tbo class, ie group n cars. Say 5 "stages" on one server, racers start with 30 second intervals, are timed over each stage, and maybe drive (or warp, less realistic but less chance of wrecking) to the start of the next stage. Kinda like a crazy golf style of rallying

Of course with an airstrip type arena you could also have true off road sections of flattened mud, or if possible the ability to place a mud/dirt route on the grass areas.

Quote from somasleep :Do you believe human beings are a bunch of particles animated by physics? Do you really believe that's all there is to human beings?
Do you really believe that beings who write poetry and ponder the existence of God came about by accident? That's quite an accident, don't you think?

I believe all that. Fits in with the view of some kind of mass multiverse where every possiblity is played out in different dimensons. We're just in a dimenson where everything fitted together, the big bang happaned, physics and quantam physics worked just right, time worked in the right way, theres infinate others where this didn't happan. Thats just a theory and can never be proven :S.
Of course if every possiblity is played out then god exists in one of them, unless it really is a figment of the human psych (see below).

Quote from somasleep : If there is no God then nothing you do really matters in the end. If you choose to kill 50 million people or help 50 million people it doesn't really matter because in the end everything turns out the same way. In the end the universe either expands until everything is cold and dead or it collapses again and everything is destroyed. Nothing that happened remains. Who is to say you ever existed?

And here is compelling reason why people make up dieties. I think a quote from red dwarf best sums it up:

LISTER: Just out of interest: Is silicon heaven the same place as human
heaven?
KRYTEN: Human heaven? Goodness me! Humans don't go to heaven! No,
someone made that up to prevent you all from going nuts!

It will save it with the changed name, with copy after it for example FBM_Fd copy.jpg
Just set that jpg as the skin in the viewer and set the viewer to auto update, bobs your uncle

Quote from Hyperactive :The easiest way would be to create a normal windows shortcut (the CMX-viewer folder set as target) in appropriate folders. That's what I do and I hardly never need to do more than few double clicks when I save or open files from different folders.

Well the plan was so I could just hit ctrl s, ie no dialog box, no double clicking just updates the psd file, and therefor updates the viewer. But now I just have to hit F2 and it does that (ok so it says it with copy after the filename but thats not exactly a problem)

Do what kegetys says, start recording an action, do as you would to save the jpg in the skins folder of the viewer then stop recording, assign to a key then away you go .
