Quote from PLAYLIFE :OK, so the driver who is about to lap you is yellow and the driver you are about to lap is yellowillepall

Umm... no if I got this right.

Driver1 is on lap 2,
You are on lap 5,
Driver2 is on lap 5, 3 secs ahead of you,
Driver3 is on lap 8.

Driver 1 is just ahead of you on the track and is colored orange on the minimap, ahead of him is Driver2 (whom your fighting with), colored yellow on the minimap. Behind you are Driver3 who's going to lap you, colored red.

See now?
What did I hit?

Drove a race earlier and somehow I managed to crash while getting of the line into nothing, really. I suppose I could have hit the car infront of me that wasn't at the location where I was hit.

I've attached the replay of the start, I'm D.A. in the field (the black FXR).

Scawen,

Would it be possible in a compatible patch to add a delay for the next shift so that it wouldn't double shift? I am having major problems with this right now. I went from 2nd gear to 5th with 1 press of my shift button.

I'm out of money so I can't buy a new wheel... so it would be great if something like this could be implented...
Shift-button functionallity for wheelbutton possible?
DanneDA

I was wondering if it were possible to add some kind of Shift-button functionalliy to my wheels buttons? Kind of like pressing Shift + U on my keyboard to get additional key available.

Currently I have 6 buttons + 2 paddles on my wheel (Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel), and I'm out of buttons that I could really use.

So if I press button X on the wheel I would get an addtional 7 buttons to assign to new functions.

My joystick (Saitek X-52) has this kind of function built in, with a pinkie-swtich (or whatever it's called), which allows me to gain additional buttons to use.

So is there any software that would work on a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel that does this kind of thing?

Where/why am I losing time? (all cars/tracks) [Replay included]

Been driving the GTR:s on Aston Nat. for the last few days (nothing else to do), and I've noticed that I am several seconds slower than everybody else. This happens on any track with any car. For now I will just go into the GTR:s (only servers with more than 6-8 people in them with resonable ping).

Up to the first split I'm over 2 seconds (up to 3 sometimes) behind most guys in the FXR and 1.5 to 2 seconds behind in the FZR. I think I lose quite a lot of time in the first corner. For me I can't keep the car from oversteering there no matter what set, speed, throttle use, car. Actually that seems to be a problem I have with just about every car on any track with any set at any (fast) speed.

I've tried the ghost-mod out to improve my racing live and braking points, and when I use those of other people I cannot maintain the line even if I'm not at their speed my car just wont hold the line (brake slightly before, throttle slightly afterwards, meaing I'm coasting longer at lower speed and still can't maintain a good line).

I've attached a hotlap replay to show where how just about every lap I drive goes. I did not bother to heat the tyres properly because I knew even with heated tyres the effects are the same.

Could my wheel be the cause of this?
Without Force Feadback I can't feel anything from the car and the wheels movement, kind of hard to describe, feels like I'm moving something that doesn't respond right away to my movements and I have to correct it way to often. Kind of like moving a box attached to a rope on a low friction area, it's easy to move over the area but very hard with fine control of it. And of course when not using Force Feedback I'm going to spinout without anything telling me that the car is doing so.

If I however use Force Feedback I can feel the wheel telling me that the car is about to spin out and naturally I try to keep the car from
spinning out and lose time in the process. When I do lose grip I let the Force Feedback to sort out some of the trouble (just keep the wheel where it is and go full throttle and voila - back in control. After a few seconds.)

I can't afford a new wheel because I'm buying a laptop next week. I need it for school and lots of other stuff. I only use this computer I'm sitting at right nopw for gaming (and everything else until I get the laptop).

Is there anything I can do or am I f***ed?

(somewhat long post...)
Breaking my thumbs off
DanneDA

Did some races today in the FZR and FXR on Aston and BL. When I used my wheel it felt like I was going to break my thumbs because of the movement of the wheel due to Force Feedback (without it I can't 'feel' the car).

Got really bad when I was in the FXR on Blackwood, all the sudden the wheel would just start shaking heavily when going flat-out or braking. I couldn't keep the wheel stationary because of the power used to move it (FF set to 85). I had some problems with this before (a week ago or so..., before any test patch) but not anywhere near this strength.

My thumbs still hurt like hell even though it's been like two and a half hours since I last raced. Maybe I should add a deadzone near the center to get rid of this stuff.

While I'm on the subject, I have a problem with the control of the car since I installed the test-patches, I get massive understeer on the low-power cars, even at low speeds, making me very slow. All the high power cars is giving me a great deal of oversteer no matter what speed I'm at, also have a lot of trouble regaining control of the car once it oversteers, it's like when driving with a keyboard without actually paying attention to what you are doing.

Maybe a sign that the wheel is giving up? It's like six years old now. Considering how stuff breaks for me it's surprising that it has held for so long without breaking (actually it is the only piece of hardware that still works and haven't been replaced in my house...)

Quote from Blues :"Maximum value reached marker added to virtual pedals"

Saw that now...

And now a bug, I got when I was setting up the controls for U12: Got to the maximum lock of the ingame wheel before I used the full movement of the of my wheel. This was after calibrating the wheel. Haven't been able to reproduce this. Now it goes to maximum lock when the wheel does.

Okay, sorry about the post. I did read the first post. Twice. I still didn't see that line. Must have been blind.

I think I've found a bug in the new test patch as I don't remember seeing it before I used any of the test patches.

When showing the pedal infobars a thin white line will be seen when the pedal is at 100 %. Would a fix for this be possible with a compatible update?

I've attached 2 screenshots showing the problem. Look at the lower right corner of the screen.
Quick question regarding MRT...

Simple question:

Why do you have to use downshift to get the car from neutral to 1st gear? Seems kinda odd to have to use that instead of normal upshifting.
Bug or feature: downshifting w/ auto-clutch?
DanneDA
S2 licensed
I wanted to test the new speedometer, so I made the car flip on it's roof. Got up to 350-something km/h in the RAC. I applied the brakes to stop the wheels, and downshifting there after, now I noticed that the wheels started spinning quite fast while doing so (upwards of 70 km/h).

I reset the car and made sure I was fully stopped. Shifted up to 5th gear and began to downshift to 1st, voila, got up to 25-ish km/h, did it again, now to about 35 km/h, without even touching the throttle pedal. Managed to do a lap around BL1 without stopping at anytime by only using the upshift/downshift and turning the wheel to stay on track.

I was using auto-clutch when doing this. I did try without it, but I didn't gain any speed. "Throttle blip on downshift" and "Throttle cut on upshift" were both on.

So is this a feature with auto-clutch or a bug in LFS?

A Supercar with lots of power. Something like Koenigsegg, McLaren (SLR and F1), Ferrari, Aston Martin (DB9, one of the most beautiful cars ever created), Zonda.

With updated engine sounds. Like the Zonda which is crazy! Or an Aston Martin that you can hear from miles away (sorta). Or an SLR.

A request from me...

Would it be possible to remove _all_ HUD from replays in SP/Hotlap? Planing of doing some movies and some of the extra stuff is in the way.

On a movie creating related note: Is it possible to create a lap-timer in Adobe Premiere? Want to and some custom tv overlay for the movies. And this creates another question for Scawen:

Is it possible to grab all data from memory to create some sort of TV-overlay ingame? Would be cool if you could have your own overlay. Like the F1 stuff.

Good work Scawen!

Gotta love developers that actually listens to the community (unlike DICE/EA with BF2). I think they can learn something from you, create small updates containing minor (vital) updates instead of creating few big ones.

A question releated to controls:

Would LFS (or any other program) be capable of doing some sort of control of how much throttle and brake given for the pedal position?

Let me explain, for the throttle/brake, using 60 % of pedal movement would only give lets say, 20 % of throttle/brake ingame. The remaining 40 % of pedal movement would give the remaining 80 % of throttle/brake.
Basicly giving you control of where you want the power of the throttle/brake to come.

Sometimes you may want to have lots of control over low power on the throttle/brake (like getting from slow speeds without wheelspins) or lots of contol of high power (beter control over breaking power).

I would really like something like this because the range of maintaining the correct speed for being fast is very narrow on my pedals, making it very hard to be fast. Giving you more room to play with would make me faster and giving me more control of the car.

Another question for you, regarding the graphics ingame:
Is LFS, in it's current state, capable of calculating more detailed shadows of cars? As it is now they don't have any clear 'edge' of where they begin/end. Would more detailed shadows make LFS unstable or would it be a performance hog?

Last question:
Is there any plans for adding specular- and bumpmaps for LFS (S2 or S3)?

The best NFS was Porsche 2000 (SWE/EU name), nice handling, upgradable parts, damage. After NFS6:HP2 the game went downhill fast. I hope Carbon isn't bad. However I think it is. Saw a screen of a Lambo and they managed to destroy it. But what do you expect from EA? Meh, will probably get Test Drive: Unlimited, lots of good cars, nice graphics, hopefully modable. What NFS shoud be. Not this ricing crap.

Nice update. Haven't gotten any problems with it.
Maybe I'll try Win Vista when I get my laptop in 3 weeks.

Questions:
Any plans for adding ingame options for AA & AF? Using nVidia profile for that now.

When using the "custom" view, there is no shadow under the car when the view is located "on" it (anywhere over the model sortof). Will the shadow be enabled in this view in any of the later patches?

Actually a $183 Conroe will beat a FX-62 if you clock it up a bit (from 1.86GHz to ~2.6GHz shouldn't be a problem with stock cooler and volt). Conroe is truely an amazing CPU.

A Conroe will do 4GHz on air, that is quite damn good. At that speed you'll beat every other CPU on the market. Actually at ~3.2GHz would be enough.

Is it a laptop? From the CPU & GFX it kinda sounds like it.
AI question
DanneDA
S2 licensed
I have a question about the AI, is it aware of moving players at all? I did some races with them and noticed that they didn't appear to be aware of me at all. When I am infront of them with nearly the entire car they just slam into me to get the proper raceline (I was driving outside it to pass them). Also they never give room for you anywhere on the track, if coming up beside them you have to go on the side of the track instead.

So is the AI aware of the player yet? Or will it come in a later patch?

I think I've (well, Astro [ BJRL ]s, idea actually) found a way to overcome the problem, at least slightly, increase the range of the wheel turn. My wheel has about 270 degrees of wheel turn, and in LFS I've set it to about 400. Though I can still feel the wheel turning, it's no way close to what it was before.
Steering Wheel Force Feedback broken or bug in LFS? (replay inside)
DanneDA
S2 licensed
I have noticed a problem with LFS, whenever I have force-feedback enabled on the wheel, any car I drive begins to 'wobble', for lack of a better word, when driving on straits and under braking.
When I disable the force feedback on the wheel (my wheel has a button for it, Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel) these problems do not appear.

I've attached a replay showing this. Down the straight for the first time I let go of the wheel once I've placed the car correctly on the straight and don't touch it until I reset the car after crashing. After this I drive back on the straight and this time without FF, only turning the wheel to keep the car on the road. After this I turn around once again (after a nice flight) and go down the straight without the FF on and once I've gotten the speed up I turn on the FF and begin to brake, the car begins to wobble. Go back up the straight with FF off and brake again (without FF) and this time the car is stable.

I can feel this in the wheel with FF on and makes the car feel unstable and effects my laptimes. I can't fully trust the car with those problems, nor can I without FF (steeringwheel is to light).

Anyone know the cause of this problem?

Some improvements:

1. Better shadow calculation, make them more detailed, make shadows enabled when using custom exterior view when on vehicle (most noticeable for openwheelers).

2. Ingame option for AA & AF (have to activate and deactivate it through windows).

3. Improvements to the lighting on tracks and cars. Feels kinda dull right now.

4. F1 track, something somewhat wide, with many different turns (slow, fast, open, tight etc.)

5. GUI improvements, add those arrow-thingy-buttons from setup menus so all menus, also if you hold the button it'll continue to change the value (so you don't have to click for each change).
Unlocking LFS S2 behind a firewall?
DanneDA
S2 licensed
I'm in school right now and I'm trying to unlock LFS S2, but I can't contact the master server, I guess this is due to the school's firewall that blocks traffic on just about everything exept port 80 (and ports 20 and 21 as FTP works).

Is there anyway of switch the port use for unlocking or use a public proxy?

I've tried a few but none of them can be used to unlock LFS.

I'd like to play LFS S2 while in school as I have like 3 hour break in the middle of the day, not much else to do here.

Thanks in advance
