Pah, that would be like saying "35 > 177 (for me at least)" - so not a sound mathematical argument :P
Even though I have to admit that Office 2007 was the last MS Office I used, thus I don't know how good the newer ones really are, OpenOffice is just such a joy to use (and free of charge) that I can't see myself changing anytime soon.
Nah, as soon as this thread is locked, there would be numerous threads popping up on why the developement takes so long, if scawen is still alive and why this thread was locked...
Thus, to prevent spam and forum clutter, it's best to keep it open and move any similar discussion in here where it can't do much harm. And once scawen has something new to say, he'll simply open a new thread.
On a sidenote: I don't think that any of the devs keep reading this topic anyway.
That can and will be classified as a racist remark. It's enough that you combine both the "black" and "slow worker" in one sentence. We don't know what exactly dan said, but chnaces are that he did infact imply that, be it intentional or not.
Now it doesn't have to do anything with the INTENTION of dan, it basically hits right on one of the main prejudices against black people and suffices to be regarded as a racist remark by outsiders who don't know how well that said black person actually works.
I'd like to see the car. The pictures you posted very efectively hide the shape of it. Could you provide clean and simple side, top, rear and front views?
I said that complaining about the bad work of a black person to an outsider who doesn't know if it's true or not does sound racists, even if it isn't meant that way.
Also, is ginger really a racist term? I thought it rather described the hair colour, like blond or brunette... :P
Well, while I agree that the skin colour is a quick way to describe a person, mocking his speed of work in connection with his skin colour DOES sound racist.
Now it doesn't matter if it's factually true, because the person you talked to doesn't know this. Thus to him you're sounding like the average "OMG TEH N!GG4RZ IZ LAZYYY!!11!!" zero-braincell-white-supremacy-ranter.
So I personally don't think the guy was overly sensitive, and I actually do think it's a great show of moral courage. Only that in this case, the reaction was a cause of a misunderstanding and not enough info.
Still, I think racism, nationalism and sexism should not be tolerated, even in slightest forms.
It just makes me wonder if the hubcaps do look diserable, why go through the hassle of stealing a whole car? why not simply get them instead.
But then, investing money in hubcaps isn't that great anyway. Firstly, they never look really good, as you either still see the steel wheel through it, or they cover the whole wheel which looks stupid. Secondly, those bastards tend to get broken if you hit a curb while parallel parking. Thirdly, they do tend to come off after a while, preferably somewhere where you don't instantly notice.
If I were you, I'd rather save for reasonable alloys, as they actually benefit on both how the car drives (allbeit only marginally) and how it looks (unless you chose ridiculously large wheels with ridiculously narrow tyres...)
People should start to use the lump of grey stuff in their heads for other purposes than preventing their skulls to collapse.
Would we all have the patch rather now than later? Yes.
Does moaning and names calling make the patch get released faster? Nope.
Will people complain instantly about the patch once it's released? Yes.
The first and most important rule when buying a used car is NOT to stretch your funds. As Murphy's law suggests, it's those cars you bought slightly over your pecuniar abilities that break down as soon as you have the keys and need very costly fixes to run again.
Other than that, I'd chose the car fitting your needs, and NOT the car you want. On an everyday basis it's just easier to live with something that's actually practical for what you do.
I for one do like to drive a tad sporty, and I have a dear love for big estate cars. Still, when it came down to buying a new car, I actually chose one I would'nt even have considered if I didn't think alot over it: a 05 VW Polo 1.2 with a whopping 53 bhp.
And here's why I chose it over a 200 bhp jag X for the same money:
1) It's cheap to run. Not only does the small 3 cylinder engine use hardly any fuel, the tax and insurance was 170 € vs 27 € for the Polo per month.
2) The Polo was newer, adequately equipped (automatic climate control etc.) and better serviced. It also had a low mileage 35.000 km vs 170.000 km.
3) I actually don't need to haul lot's of people or things around, thus I don't need a big car, let alone a station wagon. Still, the Polo's got 4 doors and surprisingly adequate space in the back row, so if I need to, I still have enough room.
4) Inner city parking.
Also, I was quite positively flummoxed that the small yet rev happy engine can keep up with the traffic at the lights. It's only when you drive on the Autobahn beyond the allowed 130 kph or steeply uphill that you really notice the lack of power. And honestly, who really needs 200 bhp in everyday road use?
So I say it again: get what you need foremost, and not what you want Save that one up for a time when you can really afford it, as it would only be a compromise between what you actually want and what you can afford anyway.
Yeah. Thinking that automated translators would get even remotely near something useful is quite naive. The best way for translations is to get guys or girls doing it.
Yeah, got the same problem here too. Especially since the semi-liquid ice/saltwater makes the roads here go super slippery. I rather have a layer of snow and crushed stones, or even simply snow + my trusty snow chains.
Well, predictions are that febuary will bring 72 centimeters of snow at my place. yay!
Mah, just give them the full deal. Unsing aids or semi-realistic sims just teaches them bad habits which in turn can make the transition to proper sims even harder.
I'm using the HTC Google G1, which is basically the first android phone and I still prefer it over the later models because it has a nice physical keyboard. Still hoping that android 2.0 and flash will be pushed on my phone, but I do start to think that android 1.6 is as far as i can get with it... well, I might upgrade to the nexus when it comes out here.
