Quote from danowat :I left school with qualifications way lower than I should have (mostly GCSE C grades), although I was in the top set at everything, and should have really got A's and went into further education, but I didn't I hated school.

Since then, I've gone from fairly meanial manual jobs, to a quite technical manual job, to a quite technical engineering job, to a very technical CAD job, to a technical architectural job, all without "external" training.

Sure, my wage isn't high (£32K) , but I got there on my own, to be perfectly honest, I really don't think there is anything that anyone can teach you, that you can't learn yourself.

That's true, but you'd succeded much quicker if you'd taken the academic approach. Of course there's a huge difference between theoratical teachings and learning by doing, but that doesn't mean that theoretical knowledge is futile. Quite on the contrary: if you can learn something by imitation, it doesn't neccessarily make you understand the principles behind it, thus it denies any further progress, or slows it down considerably.

And just as a sidenote: I dropped out of two different universities, still found a great job in my field. But it was a real struggle and I was quite desperate at times. So yes, there are drop-outs and autodidacts without formal education who have success, but they are the exception, NOT the rule!

Quote from flymike91 :@ rattus How would you go about doing that? Kill all non-athiests? Think for a second how hypocritical not to mention bigoted you are being.

Wait what? Where did I say I want to kill people? It's just that religion is an outdated, flawed concept of explaining how the world works. It has had its use, but now it is time to move forward and abandon that concept.

But, and here's where I differ from religions, that's my opinion, and I don't have the intentions, nore the means of enforcing that on everybody.

Quote from flymike91 :Frankly Jihadists don't care if you're American, Bristish, Christian, Hindu or anything else; if you're not following sharia law you are an infidel and must die.

Well, that's a trait of most religions, not only muslim jihadists. Just read your bible. That's why I think that religions should be abolished in general.

Quote from chanoman315 :I ****ing hate how slow this game is.
Really, the used car shit does not give me the cars I need to race... AAAAARGHHHH

Feel your pain. As I can't bring myself to skip races until I go to the next tier, I'm stuck at amateur, allthough I could already race the expert series just because no friggin truck turns up in the used car dealership.

But then I found this, which I had to buy for collecting reasons (pic not by me):

Seems I got my christmas present early. And paid for it.

But then, the jaguar does look nice, allthough the chrome line classic cars are a tad pointless as you can't drive them in the classic cups (plus, the paintjobs look silly).

Quote from Ricerguy :is "fry sauce" Tar-tar sauce? >_>

I rather guess they're talking of "Remoulade", a mix of mayo, mustard and a few other things. Quite tasty indeed.

And on another note: stop eating fast food every day. Cook your meals with fresh ingredients.
Just don't repeat my mistakes and make it too tasty, or else you will still gain weight.

Also, not entirely unrelated, "stones" sound like a silly way to measure weight :P

Well, you're responsible for how you drive and how you judge situations. I don't know what it is like on your roads, and perhaps I have read to much into what you said.
My point is still valid though that you should drive like everyone else is out to kill you (an dthat includes deer suddenly running in your car), and even more so in winter conditions.

Quote from mamoru :Maybe, but I don't drive reckless. I have the car under control even when it is going sideways (yes, I did that).

Paradoxon much? Hope you don't hurt someone when you learn your lesson.
A road isn't a racetrack, and a snowy road where most people can't drive properly on even less.
What you fail to see is that you not nonly have to keep a margin for your own errors, but also an additional margin for every other person on the road.

Quote from mamoru :I am still wondering why people are driving slower. I am going my normal pace and that is just fine, true.. the tires slipped a little but nothing more than a little bit letting go of the gas while driving away.

Because driving at normal road speeds works only as long as you don't have to emergency brake or go around corners.
Even if the road is grippy, it takes one slippery spot to lose it, and you won't know if the patch you're driving on is slippery unless you actually do brake or turn.

It's people like you who cause most of the congestions on my daily commute, by being stupid and crashing into things.
Just a quick rundown:
Time lost per trip to/from work due to me driving sensibly: 10-15 minutes
Time lost due to stupid people per trip to/from work: 30 - 45 minutes.

And that's on my daily 35 minute commute.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Oh, I see.

That's pretty stupid.

I don't think that the people selling them are stupid.
On the other hand people who buy them...

So as I gather, you get one registration plate in the UK and you stick with it for the rest of your life, or if somebody buys it?

We get new plates pretty much everytime we move.
Or we rent customized plates for 230€ for 15 years. And you're not allowed to sell it to somebody else, as it is tied to your person.

Quote from Hahmo :afaik they are not allowed because of the conditions of the roads around here
BTW, around where in Dublin you live?

Why would winter tyres not be allowed? I'd understand if studded tyres are prohibited, but winter tyres?

Quote from CoolColJ :I don't know wether this is a bug or due to PS3's small memory
But if you set say a race exhaust in your garage and go to the track, it will sound as it is, but if you change back to stock exhaust in the settings page while on the track screen, the sound won't change. And vice versa stock to race.
When you exit back out and then go back in the sound changes...

Hmm. I got a similar memory related problem once: When viewing the different premium cars in my garage, all got the wheels of my currently chosen car. Only affected the garage though.

News snippet from gamespy:

Quote :"Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming early December," Yamauchi tweeted. The system currently rewards in-game experience with more detailed crashes and the update will allow players to select the severity of damage as a menu option.

A rundown on the other features, options, and fixes Polyphony Digital is working on:
-- A no HUD option
-- A YouTube video upload feature
-- Face tracking available outside of arcade mode
-- New lounge functionality
-- The ability to take leisurely drives around town
-- A credits and experience system for online play
-- A less congested, faster online experience

I especially like the things I bolded.

EDIT: here's the source for GS, seems like the editor can't really read. Some things in that list are not worked on, but were discarded during developement. Still, a patch with damage settings is in the works to be released early this month. Yay!

Quote from spyshagg :G25 forcefeedback is not as good as you guys painted.

Stepping the apexes doesn't vibrate as the game sound makes you believe.

Driving the SLS AMG nurburgring chalenge was a mixed experience regarding the Forcefeedback (won gold though.)

I have it on simulation too.

How so? I find the FFB useful and well made, even though I assume it uses canned effects.

Mazda Eunos Roadster/Tsukuba: 1.15.002 (all aids off, ABS off).

It's a brilliant combo!

1:05:977, all aids off. Soft sports tyres though and all upgrades (250 bhp).

Quote from Dandy Dust :@Colleus Rattus:

Snip

Well, I base my assumption off what Scawen told us and common sense. And I trust in Scawens remark that he would inform us if he stopped working on LfS.
Also, he said in the past that he chose to work in a small team on LfS for idealistic reasons, rather than monetary ones. IIRC, he wanted to ceate a great racing sim, and if he can live off it, than that's a bonus. And that's why LfS is so great, because most other companies do in fact work the other way round: they want to make money, and if that spawns a good game, that would be the bonus.

Also, I guess I am just a patient guy. Would I like to have the next update now? Yes! Does the world end if it takes another two years? No!

It's not like the anticipation of the patch is the only meaning in my life, and all i'm trying to suggest is that people calm down in here.
