Quote from chanoman315 :1554 laps and u dont get bored of that combo?

OMG are you serious? I did at least 15000 laps on AS CLUB with the FOX and it's still not boring. 1500 could be counted as NOTHING. I could say the last 10.000 laps did not change anything to my driving at all but it actually did since i get very constant 1.00.50's where i got 1.00.80's on occasion when i just started this combo. Just once a day maybe...
Later this got to .70 once a day, .60 etc. Now its getting really somewhere, like every lap a .50 or lower. I scream in anger when i drive .70's, it's almost insane how mad u can get at pretty decent times.

My best is a .28 without slipstream, .23 with.

Oh well I can't get enough of this track, such a shame I had to brake my G25 and haven't been able to play for three months now since i have no money to buy a new one. I really don't want to try the mouse nor keyboard, it's just not like racing. Ah well, the time will come and I will see how bad this absence ruined my laptimes. Hope i won't have to start all over again

Quote from Jakg :I'm not going to disagree with the fact that usually the younger you are the less mature you are, but there are some exceptions - i'd like to think i'm one of those. I mean look at Lible - he's 13, and you'd never know it through his forum posts. Compare him to Harjun.... Then compare Lible to people like KiD, Muhaa, and the guy who made the frankly disgusting videos about Becky, all so called "adults".

Age Stereotypes are one of my BIG pet hates, it's the reason why i have to trade on my Dad's names to fix PC's because it's the natural assumption that a 16 year old in Jeans doesn't know squat, whereas an 19 year old in PC World who's getting paid £7,500 a year with a name tag and a crappy slogan instantaneously knows all.

You got a point there, and i think you are totally right... only the PC fixing thingy i got other experiences with. I Never got the looks i could not fix a pc when i was around 16 years old, i did that a lot and people were grateful for that, neither did i had to abuse my dad's name to do so. Also we all tend to get older, now i'm 25 and you could think of me as how you discribe the 19 year old bloke. It's true that age does matter when people judge of you, but when you prove them wrong showing you are actually good at it, this news will spread too and even at lower age you will build up good reputation. Just be yourself and don't pretend to be someone else, otherwise the other one will get the credits for it, not you.

I actually started fixing pc's at the age of 10, which seems even more curious, but i started to work with pc's at the age of 2, that's a lot of experience allready at the age of 10 so i could bring up a lot of information to convince people i could handle the job. Don't ever think you know what others will think of you beforehand, prove yourself, show confidence! And please don't blame the 19 year old for being confident and earning money, you can do so too. Now in real life you would think of me like that same 19 year old, but I am not doing my job as if i don't know shit and getting money for playing a smartass becouse i'm old enough to be accepted as a specialist. That would be sick, i spent lot's of time to getting where i am now and i deserve every penny , it has nothing to do with others' judgements.

I would say, go for it, forget the Age Stereotype shit... i could do it, you CAN do it

Sorry for going way off-topic here, i just like mindbending

Hi Fl!p, that indeed solved my problem, thank you for informing me with a private message, how nice

Have to admit, this reply is a bit late, but better late then never...

Still, are you planning to make your tool more versatile? I don't really bother putting in all commands myself and be creative with all possible options, but it would be nice if such options were implemented so others with less experience editing files can get what they want too. You made such good start, i hope you give it a bit more work though...

Anyway, still an awesome tool, can't do without it.

Also it does not really matter if its an X1600PRO/XT, amounts of MEM etc. it's an RV530, that is the main thing to look at and to compare too. I also build a machine for a friend with the same card. He plays LFS over a year now without such problems. Every performance enhancement feature (like fast writes) is turned ON. Lately we switched the OS to Vista and it still works like a charm, LFS runs fine too.

If u have this problem since u switched your videocard (don't know what u had before) i guess there is something wrong with this particulair card u bought. You should try if you have the same problem playing other games. Switch back to old videocard and check if its all working correctly again.

Videocards that have problems out-of-the-box seem to get more common. I also got a X1950PRO AGP which did work a tiny bit (pc did POST, but windows was a no-go). I got two of em, so i switched it with the other one and everything worked ok. After a lot of testing i figured to keep my older Geforce 7800GS AGP and got rid of the ATi's entirely. Nothing really wrong with the X1950PRO btw, but that dicision was based on performance.

Don't try too hard figuring out the problem on the softwarefront, replace your videocard and u are more likely to figure out where the problem is. U count things out doing so.
I hope you get your problem solved soon, this kind of failures can get so nervebreaking... good luck

Since Victor is Dutch anyway, why not make a decent moderating system comparable to www.tweakers.net , That would be way better and much less clumbersome. If someone wants to know if his suggestion pointed out in his new thread is good or not, let him place a poll in the start thread which gives way better indication on how many are pro/against the idea, instead of having a positive mark (thank you) as an only option. This wont give any indication, it just gathers lots of positive remarks, the more the better? Like collecting Kudo's or something... and at the end of the year you can spend them at the LFS souvenir shop
Crazy...

You could place a +1 and -1 option and calculate the average from that which then will be indicated by a colored light inside the msgbox. The light going from Red to Green in lets say five steps, green meaning very positive, red very negative, between them are a softred/softgreen and a neutral one. This light could be placed in the darkblue bar on top of the reply or next to the username for instance. Or having both, the light in the blue bar indicates the grade of the current message, the light next to the username indicates the average of all posts that person wrote. This will give quite a good indication on how well someone behaves over time.

I really think you need to change the way you type your messages... You sound like some 7 year old and you are lacking any form of discipline.

The main point why you are not getting anywhere is that u don't trust upon yourself doing so. You constantly blame others for being faster and struggling with the fact that it all seems impossible.

Really not the way to go bro, if you're acting this same way in real life you need to change the way you think drastically or you won't get anywhere. Complaining won't get you further. Think about yourself doing crazy hotlaps and winning races and eventually you will get there. The biggest problem of most people is that they can't place themselves at the top in their imagination. Instead they complain and yell about others being alien all the time. Instead we are not alien, but we know how the basics of attraction work.

I can't help you getting better, you have to!, i can only give some pointers... but since a lot of people already did that, i try to approach it in a diffirent way. So i hope my speech will get you any further at last. It may seem like it's impossible that the way you think has such great impact on what you get and where you get, but it's 100% true. Still, i'm not here to convince anyone... It's your life, do with it whatever you want.

Be aware that the synthisized sounds used in LFS are made out of very short samples who do not sound like any engine at all. It sounds more like a snare or gunshot, almost distorted.

These samples are looped and modulated by the LFS soundengine which then becomes like a nice rendered enginesound.

So u actually can import some samples by yourself, ask DaveWS about it, he has quite some experience with this. But don't think u can put in some recorded carsounds becouse this will sound like crap. You need to look for short burst sounds, almost like it's a single explosion of the internal combustion engine.

If you want to use longer recorded 'looped' samples, use CarSoundRemixer instead.

Btw, if u look for a sample editor, try CoolEdit.

I made mine quite the simple way, just get one good camera position and stick to that point, dont move anymore. Now only turn the camera around by moving the mouse horizontally like playing an FPS game from a stationary point. You could turn around 360 degrees to get not only a panoramic view, but a surrounding view, or even shoot every image possible from that standpoint to make a spherical view. That one could be used as a reflectionmap i guess

Who likes to try that out

Quote from Slopi :I think the most I could ask for in the graphics upgrades would be cars with a higher polly count. Nothing extreme really, just better than what it currently is

I would suggest Normal Mapping onto the same poly models instead of upping the polycount since they are high enough as it is, or use an extra texturemap as a bumpmap to show relief on the surface area of a car, like u can see in NKpro where the grooves between all the panels on the car are bumpmapped. This gives way more detailed effects and requires no more poly's at all. Good sample is Doom3 engine where extreme low-poly models are being used and made look quite nice with some sort of bumpmapping (almost like the effect of normalmapping) that almost make things look round-shaped when it's actually square. Doom3 let us show what can be done with very low poly models combined with this texturing. Now take any car u see in LFS, it already has loads of poly's, combined with the same texturing method will allow for far more details. This kind of texturing will be perfect for simulating grooves on a tyre surface whithout the need of them to be added in the model. Now we simulate them with basic 2D images. They don't react to the direction of light at all, so they don't give an impression of depth.

Graphical wise, it's okay to me now, but it could be made much more neat and also efficient using more advanced shaders, thus not only to be used for extreme eye-candy but performance is a factor too. We need better multitexturing possibilities. High-res textures as they are being used now is totally ridiculous. We need more layers to work with, not just one. LFS is quite like Quake2, but it should be near to Quake3 graphicswise which is already old too, but allows for much more detailed- and texture effecient behaviour.

Quote from The Very End :What exactly does APEX means?

Sorry for coming into this topic and ask for a thing, just needed to know what that means.

The Apex is the slowest point in a turn, the moment where you stop to lift/brake and hit the throttle again. It's often located somewhere in the middle close to the inside of a turn. Look-to-apex just means that the view turns towards the Apex at the moment you steer into the turn. This gives u a better persepective on where u are heading. But in some cases it's a bit distracting because u loose the connection with the car slightly. I always have it set disabled, but it could help some.

Go to options -> View -> Look Heading

Select the axis you use to steer, in case of a wheel select 'wheel' and adjust the sensitivity to your liking.

This is look-heading based on your controller-input. Track-IR will let you do much more then just that based on the motions of your own head. Check out youtube and you'll find out what is possible with Track-IR.

OK ik tried something similar too, takes quite some time though to glue all the images together inside PS

total of six screens put together of AS CLUB, no brilliant composition, small amount of cars and no real action going on. Nevertheless, here it is:

about 2MB, could take a while.

I'll go try to use Photoshop and screenshots of at least 1600x1200 to make such a composition, there is not so much of a Panoramic appearence to it when the resolution is as low in your sample if u ask me.
But no matter what, i like the idea and i don't know if this is done before. (not counting in multimonitor shots)

So great idea!, I will give it a shot too

A reverse does not "BRAKE", it's just the mechenical part of the whole, its not very stable. It takes minor adjustments to get it right. I have had major struggles with G25's shifter. It's mainly done by potentiometers and one button. The potentiometers (like in a joystick X+Y axis) calculate in what direction the stick is at which is then converted to numbers 1 to 6. When putting it in rear it's actually the same like gear 6. But u have to press the stick down (it activates a button) which makes 6+button = 7 = Rear.

It could happen this button on the bottom of the stick ain't working well so it still sees it a gear 6. Mainly it needs to be replaced. Now i don't have any problems with replacing stuff and i never call things broken, it just not works well so it needs corrected

For most ppl this is a matter of replacing the whole unit Sadly...

It really is a great wheel, i just don't like it enough the way it is out of the box. Mainly because everyone has the default G25 wheel and i absolutely hate to have some default peace of crap everyone can buy. So the first thing to do is to put your own 'real' racing wheel on it to make it unique. I put on a snap-off connector too so i can dismount the wheel. It's mostly important too since someone can't seat himself in my simulator with the wheel mounted. So snap-off is the way to go, and the extra fun part is that i'm able to place the wheel in my car

One main disadvantage is that the snap-off unit puts the wheel closer towards you and makes the gap between wheel and flipper-paddles larger, so i had to extend the flipper-paddles in able reach them without getting the cramps

All requered some decent time of work and fiddling to get it all right. Now when i see a default G25 i laugh my ass off, it suddenly looks like a silly thin and small wheel for the kids

Anyway, when i had to mount the wheel rock solid to the simulator housing (no motion sim, just a wooden construction with seat, monitor and surroundset all in one, its a work in progress) I figured the 6mm bolt-mounts were no good since they are placed at the back of the base. The clamps in the front did not extend enough to hold onto a 4" peace of wood which resulted in loose behaviour. I could tilt the wheel up and down far too easy. So I took the wheel apart and made some new 8mm holes located more towards the center of the base. In the end it all fitted like a glove. All happy etc. and put the stuff back together... but suddenly nothing worked anymore. I must have made some major mistake which shorted out the main circuit board of the G25. This silly actions never happen to me, it just had to happen with some quite expensive peace of equipment and now i have no wheel anymore

Well, silly me, now i have to buy a new one only for the damn circuit board. Guess i could use the spare parts in the future so no hard feelings though

This all happened two months ago so i'm not able to drive for quite some time now. The biggest problem is that i have no job at the moment, but it seems things are working out for me so it wont be long now till i get an income and everything goes back to the way it was... oh man i miss to drive that FOX around so badly. Well it's my own fault anyway... just wanted to share this little experience with y'all

G25's rock and make u a so much better driver, when i took my old wheel out i noticed why the G25 was so much better in terms of precision, the long stroke paddels and the optical wheel sensor (like the optical wheel with holes inside a bal-mouse) instead of a potentiometer are making things so much better to control and make it all last so much longer. I guess the G25 will last for ages, u really have to do something very bad to brake it. Also the shifter is quite sturdy, i opened it up about 10 times to make things stiffer but that also will last long based on the mechanical parts. The switches used to make it actually 'shift' will brake down sooner i guess. The shifter has some major flaws though and i don't like it very much, so i will make my own one from scratch.

Anyway, everyone who loves LFS and can't afford the REAL sim-wheels should buy a G25 and nothing less. A DFP is just crap in my point of view and should not be compared to G25's.

--EDIT--

About the force settings. U should put ingame force at 100% at all times. It has nothing to do with strength but with HOW the force is dispersed. When driving the force above 100% u get clipping, just like an Amplifier so u won't notice the slight differences at the top levels like comparing a sine wave to a square wave. Turning it below 100% gives u less information to play with, which results in less force precision. Like 8bit compared to 16bit.
I can't drive for 4 hours with the wheel at 100% in the Logitech control centre, so i put all levels at 60%. For FOX driving this is quite nice, but my wheel is also slightly larger than normal so it will take less energy to counter the force. My teammate uses force levels around 50% on the FOX, when drifting with XRT or LX6 we use much lower forces so we can really smash the wheel around without getting tired. Besides all that i always use the exact same wheel rotation as the ingame-car which states 450% on FOX and 720% on roadcars. Also set the Logitech control panel at the right value + ingame wheel rotation setting both at the same levels, and never use wheel-turn compensation on a wheel like this! This allows for the most linear and most realistic feel possible.

Tnx Fl!p this is really great. Although some may not need more viewangles, i would definately like more, and also an option to bind them to keys so u can instantly switch to a view (as if you're a real director). I'm into LFS content movie making and it's very time consuming at the moment.

I would like to use the numpad for instance where '5' is the center 'custom in-car' view and all the other numbers would be cams surrounding the car in an angle i prefer and somewhat logical positioned to the numpads order to make things very clear. Anywayz, thats the way I would like it. In that case i'd use the whole numpad which brings total number to 10.

Still, this would just be a configurable option. Like u want 9 cams and scroll thru it... or u want 6 cams controlled by buttons... it should all be possible. Why not even make the total number of cams unlimited, it's just the end-user's decission to make. This will make things a lot easier, no comments on '5' is enough, or '10' will be too much for me, nada, make it configurable and your program is awesome. A little tool like this should fulfill everyones needs in terms of camera views imho, not just a few.

keep up the good work

Indeed, even if u don't like the engine sounds CSR makes, u can also disable them and keep the rest of the sounds enabled. CSR really does make the game sound insanely good when using the right sounds. Im quite used to sound editing so i made all my own personal high quality sounds and that is such a cool thing to spend lots of time on using sound editors. Just to make that sample sound right. Well... or i just like fiddling around a lot with all these aspects of a game. Sound and Graphics is what i really like about games, especially when they are editable. I should find a job in that direction anyway

PS. i don't use the engine sound either because i really like de detailed sound from LFS itself (i drive the FOX mainly). But instead i changed the engine sound of CSR to something else that more resembles a faint hum with high pitched grain used as an extend of the default LFS sound instead of using heavy roary carsounds as an overlay which blocks all the detailed information i need.

To some CSR is somthing they download, check it out with whatever sounds are included and judge it by that. To some CSR is seen as something with a lot of potential and with lots of sliders and posibilities that make them smile even before they hear sound. I could easily spend a whole day on finetuning a carsound.

IMHO, CSR should be integrated into LFS

Quote from kompa :+1 for this and forced dynamic LOD reduction of 1.00 as well! LFS should also kill all known popup causing processes such as messenger antivirus etc.

You are stupid, you are supposed to configure those programs NOT to pop up when playing a game. I never had such problems, the only problem is most ppl are just too damn lazy to check out all the settings and then blame the program for it while wrecking others race. If u were sitting next to me saying such things i would pull the trigger.

As a reply on the TS, to force shift-F maybe is a bit too extreme, but i do not totally disagree as it still would be a server side option. There could be some league races with all pro drivers who would extremely enjoy that sense of 'realness' as for some cars this lack of information would actually make a lot of sense. Making pitstops and not knowing on what position to come back on the track, u really have to calculate and be smart, u can't anticipate on the minimap. Really cool idea. On the open Redline servers this is not an option due too inexperienced drivers. I really need to look at the map the whole race long to safe myself from major damage. Also the n00bs should look at the map when they reposition after a crash, although they mostly DON'T look at the map at all! So the forced shift-F option would not even be spotted by n00bs thats how rediculous they drive, they can't read and drive, can't look at the map while driving, they just can't do anything right. Sry for getting a bit carried away, it's really frustrating sometimes and i don't get the total disagrement on this shift-f idea since it would be an option and won't be used that much because no one likes the idea! But this one password-locked elite race thats happening once in a while could benefit from this option to make it even more realistic. What's the problem... to me there is no way to think that when such an option is introduced all servers would suddenly use it! Those ppl who run these servers are mainly not that stupid.

Don't get me wrong though, i'm not that PRE or against this idea in any way i really don't care that much. I'm mainly concered by the way everyone rejects it as if it would be something major happening that ruins the whole game while that's totally NOT the case.
