I edited one of the pics posted here, so that you can try the good old-fashioned red/green glasses. There are however red/blue glasses too and I don't know which color is for which eye...so I did 4 versions for you, try it please and let me know if it works

Network Q Rally Championship!!!

So that's the name of that game. I used to spend hours playing that one on my Pentium 75MHz with 16MB ram and 1MB video.

That's however still years far from my first games.

Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :I still think the only thing you're going to achieve, regardless of your best attempts, is an internet brawl on what IS realistic and what isn't. That is almost inevitable as there is very limited real data available, and at least half of this 'real data' about tires has turned out to be rather wrong.

We have all the ingredients for a brawl here..

I am not attempting to achieve anything. I just stated my opinion, plus the fact that this is my third post in a row in this thread makes it clear that I am bored out of my mind

Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :You can have all the tire flex in the world running at 100000000000000ghz but that won't compensate for entering the wrong values for peak slip angle etc..

Often MORE numbers just means more things to get wrong!

That's why I also mentioned "Correspondance of these features with reality". If the values are wrong, the "correspondance" is reduced. I just can't express myself properly.

I understand the OP a little different(ly?) than the rest. While you guys are comparing simulation with reality, I think that the OP is about comparison of different simulators.

If that is the case, then the sims can be "rated" by these criteria (that I just made up):
  • Number of features being simulated - Tyre flex, changing weather, mechanical damage etc.
  • Accuracy (edit: "precision" might be a better word) of these features - Physics engine frequency, number of segments of a tyre, aero-model complexity etc.
  • Correspondance of these features with reality (if there is any) - does the car oversteer as much as it would IRL in the same conditions? etc.
Grade each of these on a scale of 1-10 and then compare with other sims and there you go.

Quote from 5haz :I have a mate who is Russian, and he seems alright enough to me.

Then again his views on other Eastern European countries, especially the Ukraine, are a bit suspect.

The ordinary people of any country are ok. It's the politics and the media that make those countries a bad name.

If you'd go to Afghanistan or Iraq, you'd be surprised how friendly the people there are, unless you offend them somehow.

Ask any American (for example), how he feels about his country and fellow countrymen...and then ask someone from Iraq how he feels about Americans You'll get the same opinion, just from another point of view.

Nope, because:

FIX : Z19 problems going full screen in some versions of Windows

I thought it was definitely fixed in Z20.

I have just played Z20 for a while and noticed a few things:

1) I always start LFS in fullscreen mode. BUT! After minimizing it (alt+tab) and then getting back to fullscreen (by clicking the minimized LFS on the taskbar), I wasn't able to rewind/forward the replay that I was watching at the moment, because after moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, the replay control panel didn't show up. There was the vertical resize cursor instead (the up-down double arrow).

2) Still in Z20 and I was unable to click some GUI buttons. Had to click a few pixels under them. This has already been discussed earlier.

Both problems fixed by Shift-F4-ing to windowed. Going back to fullscreen by Shift-F4 again and it worked fine then too.

I have a WinXP SP3 machine with nVidia GeForce go7300 (mobile graphics).

It's friday after midnight (or early saturday morning if you will) and Scawen is still working on LFS. Looks like a crunch-time to me. Something big must be boiling in them Scavier pots.

I have a WinXP laptop with 2GB of ram and nVidia GeForce go7300 + Intel Pentium 1.73GHz. Everything is running smooth at 1920x1200@ around 40 FPS.

What I meant to say by this is "Good job! And now take a nap." Workoholism combined with perfectionism is a bitch, I know what I'm talking about.

At first, I was thinking: "Why is everybody so happy about these new additions? When we got the FBM, it was not much different, almost the same as the FOX. The Scirrocco is also quite similar to the XFG and the new track is also similar to the Kyoto one."

But then, it hit me: "Along with FBM came the clutch heating, engine stalling, transmission upgrades and other things. With Scirrocco we will get limited setups and tyre simulation improvements. Rockingham brings us a firts laser scanned track which might also bring a different feeling to the game."

There is more to it than just another fwd hatchback and another track. Although I'm in favor of a more "vertical" track (with lots of elevations), I am still looking forward to the new patch and S3 content. Devs, you have my support and as soon as S3 comes out (whether it has one track or ten, I don't care), I'm buying. Just show me where do I sign

Quote from NitroNitrous :AFAIK all GPS are free, you only have to pay for buying the software and the maps (If you want )

That's what I thought too, but some smartphones don't containt maps, they download them on-the-fly through internet, which is not free, especially when you're abroad on a highway. But maybe I am wrong. I just want to be sure.

Quote from heson :I'm drooling over the nokia n900, however I can't justify myself to buy a bulky phone with features I would not use (I hardly even sms)

It's not out yet. http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/
The apple one has probably the best ui, but I would never rent an apple product (I want control over my stuff). Androids are cool and not as locked down as the apple stuff. Maemo looks very free, but how free will it be and how good, future will tell.

Besides the apple one is hugely expensive, I got and ad that claimed it was cheap, minimum fees for the two year contract was eur900 (but I had to use a magnifying glass to read that) that did not include any extra apps from the apple shop, nor unlimited data.

The N900 looks good I just wonder, do I have to pay for using GPS with that phone?

I am not an iPhone fan, so I'm not really tempted by that option, unless you convince me otherwise.

I prefer Win Mobile OS because of the PC compatibility, plethora of applications and the fact that I am already somewhat familiar with it already. I just hope that it's a good decision and that the OS will be responsive on a high end device.

I have absolutely no experience with Blackberries so I don't know if its functions will come to any use.
Besides that, what are your opinions on the top models of these brands: ASUS, HP, HTC and Samsung?

Quote from JJ72 :Then you are doing art, not design.

Design is a profession, it had it's business structure and its own very ecosytem.

You want to do things on your free time no problem, but please don't advertise it being a professional work.

If your work is truely up to a professional level, it would consume so much of your time and energy that you will never do it for free.

And imagine that kind of client you will get and how critical they will be about your design, you will end up with some small start up hobbie business owners who have no idea about proper market research, and have no idea what they want to achieve with their website.

So how can you gauge if your "design" acheives its goal, and how can you evaluate it's quality?

In the end it becomes something that you think is good, and your client who have no idea about design personally likes.

That is not professional design, professional design is about clear objective and logical methodology, with a strong creative process. A project with no solid objective and evaluation process cannot be professional design.

If you want to start a business - that is an exchange in money for a service provided, doing it for free contradicts the notion.

If you want to do whatever pleases you, then dont' be professional, do it as a hobbie, it's very simple.

I'd imagine eventually you will want to actually earn money from it....if you plan to do so, then you have to be professional. or else it will just fuel the stereotype that designers are egotistic con artists.

Art is the expression of your feelings.
Design is the balance between esthetics and reason.

To be on topic, I am a student and make some money on the side by creating web sites for individuals and smaller businesses.
When I was starting, I created a web for my mother who runs a beauty salon. When I was more experienced, I created another more polished version. I also created a web for myself. Tada, two references to go Then I created a web for my friend who is a personal trainer, also for free.

Check out my web if you want to see my "style" at www.breadfan.sk (it's in Slovak obviously) and click on Referencie, which is my portfolio.

If you need any advice, ask

Hi,

could you please recommend a best smartphone money can buy? And I mean some reasonable money, no diamond-studded platinum iPhone. Something under €700.

1) What manufacturer in general is the best in your opinion?
2) What specific model do you recommend?

Now, some of my tastes:
- fast and effective interface (preferably no Symbian, unless you have some very good experience)
- no useless fancy bullshit (like the TouchFlo3D or whatever it is called)
- GPS support (without the necessity of monthly payments) with Central/Eastern Europe
- touchscreen with querty keyboard is prefered, but not necessary (but still would be nice )
- good multimedia support (music player, FM radio, good video support)
- 3mm jack for audio output

That's all I can think off. Thanks a lot in advance

My brother is a BTCC photographer, so he was at Rochingham this weekend. I asked him, via SMS, to see if he could find LFS being shown and whether it was Rockingham. He said it was and it was.

But he has been known to be wrong!

I prefer to take this seriously than all the other posts. However, there is still no conclusion to make out of this, but I like the way it sounds.

So does that mean that besides the real car, we also get a real track?
