That's fair enough. Are you planning to answer these questions in a later stage here when you know, or in a special thread with a new report? Or are you keeping us wondering until it's ready to be tested? Just wondering, I'm fine with both.
To keep on the topic; South City looks amazing, especially with the new lighting. Can't wait to drive around the many new roads. Are those stairs also something we can jump off?
Interesting question. Also to add to this question, how does the temperature now affect the grip? I can remember with drifting the tires were like soap and they popped at exactly 200 degrees.
Do the tires now behave differently in that aspect? How about wear in general? Can you pop your tires like before? Is it done at a specific temperature? Or is wear measured in a way that takes friction in account?
It all depends on the user. I believe the fastest people are actually using keyboard and/or mouse because that's faster than a wheel.
But I guess in the sense of realism it's a step up to be able to control your brake/throttle better. But I don't think it would be comfortable or nice to use. Just get yourself a wheel as well (second hand or a cheap Logitech wheel or something).
Security should always be something you have to keep in mind. Just because players don't know what happens between the server and InSim doesn't mean it's safe from attacks. Ignoring that makes you a poor programmer, especially because it can be easily be made safer without any negative side effects or something.
I would use some kind of hash or token or something anyway to let the InSim and server communicate with each other to have some kind of assurance that the programs are not some kind of fake traffic. But hey, that's just my 2ct.
That would seriously be good for LFS. I think he has helped a lot of devs improve their physics.
Gotta agree with him that GT cars feel weird/bad. But also a lot of stuff had to do with bad/basic setups, and he obviously doesn't know about the sound editor it seems.
This is a limitation in the LFS telemetry. AFAIK there is not max RPM in this data that LFS outputs. We have the same problem with the application Fanaleds. Would be nice if it had this data like almost all other games.
In Fanaleds you can set a max value for every car so it's not an issue, not sure if this app also can do that?
Sounds good. I'm also mainly going to use buttons for the lights. I've got the start lights added, but haven't checked their timing yet, good point about that. I already thought they were a little slow, so that could explain it.
Maybe a good question for Scawen how that's handled.
Interesting, thanks! So I can use this to export the values, and hardcode the difference right? Would the setup really matter? I don't think the position forwards or backwards does change right?
Yes correct! I'm working on a little drag InSim right now. I plan to make it as realistic as possible with pre/full staging. I'll have a look at that carinfo when I find some time.
Are you also working on an InSim, or just brainstorming?
I'm working on a little InSim project, and for it I need to know the coordinates of the wheels. Specifically the front wheels. As far as I know, the X and Y coordinates that the CompCar packet contains is for the center of the car, right?
So I can obviously check each car and see how much the offset is from the center to the wheels and use the direction of the car to calculate the X and Y coordinates for the wheels, but I was wondering if there's an easier way to do this, or some kind of list already. So for example someone else that has done this before.
Pretty much no risk I think honestly. But if the LFS devs facilitate this, then they're at a much greater risk. That's the whole point. If LFS would allow modding and some people decide to create content that infringes someones IP that's not their fault, as long as they don't help host/spread this illegal content.
And yeah, some mods are incredible. Many hours are spent in BeamNG with some great mods over here!
The BeamNG devs are very clear about illegal content on their official resources page, so I doubt you'll find much.
But still, if there's no consent from the IP owner of the mod, and you're spreading their work, it's illegal. Just because a brand is not putting effort into suing everyone doesn't mean it's okay to do. How hard is that concept to get? Just because you post a few links from unknown games that look terrible.
Nonsensical? If you as a business or individual sell and/or facilitate the spreading of illegal stuff, then you're breaking the law. It's that simple. BeamNG and AC etc do not advertise with their shitty stolen mods that their game has. You can find mods the official way, but only approved mods. Guess why? Yeah because it's illegal. That why you will not find real brands or other stuff that is owned by a brand or a company on the official channels.
No one ever heard of IP? Ever heard of people being sued that copied games, movies, music etc? I don't see how LFS would be an exception to that rule. Saying nobody will care or something like that is just stupid and ignorant.
But as long as the LFS devs do not facilitate the hosting of these mods it's fine. Simple as that.
That's not what we're saying at all. The same goes for apps like Gimp and Photoshop. They're made to edit files in their way. As long as they don't make features specifically to copy/steal things that's fine, because now it depends on what the end-user will use the software for. But you can't use this comparison for LFS.
