Quote from LewX :... you could even swap the engine for a type R engine, which redlines at around 8400rpm iirc. Look them up on youtube.

Note...Sometimes the "R" stands for RICE!!!!!

Honestly dont know what the 'cousins' have got against 4 cylinder engines...they dont even like them on bikes...imagine, a 1.4 litre 2-pot! (...that gets sent home in tears by a measly 900cc 4 banger )

American V8's are sometimes useful...my Dad has one in his motor...then again, his vehicle is 38ft long and weighs 13 tonnes!

Another argument...MGB GT V8 vs Lotus Elise or Rover 3.5 V8 (same engine as MGB GT) vs any straight 6...OK, its old vs new tech, but you could argue that big American engines have hardly changed much in 40 years!

Quote from mrodgers :
To me, good music is more than just some cords strummed out on the guitar and someone singing some lyrics. To me, good music is made with the instruments and the singing and lyrics add to it.

+1

Quote from mrodgers :
I'm an electric guitar freak. If there's no electric guitar, I'm can't get interested. Along with that electric guitar, there has to be some electric guitar soloing. Within that electric guitar soloing, that solo has to tell a story. That is music to me.

+0.9 (SOME great tracks are played mostly with an acoustic guitar...try Angie by The Stones, or some of Clapton Unplugged

Quote from mrodgers :
My favorite band and what I think of as the most talented band that ever played, Pink Floyd. My favorite lyricist, Roger Waters. My favorite guitarist, David Gilmour. Take Comfortably Numb, or any of the songs from the Animals CD and remove the lyrics. The instruments, especially the guitar tell a story. There's an introduction, the body of the story as it rises up to the climax, the climax of the story, then the easing down until you reach the conclusion. That to me is music. Not someone strumming C... D... E... F... C... D... E... etc and singing some poem while strumming.

+1 Floyd ARE awesome...but then so are a lot of their contempories...Zepp, Eagles, etc

Quote from f4sttr@ck :Well, I'm going to be buying my first car soon and was looking for opinions from other drivers out there with a good knowledge of cars. I'm looking at many different cars and would like some opinions on the best.

1. Mitsubishi Lancer
2. Mitsubishi eclipse
3. Ford Mustang
4. Honda Civic
5. Volkswagen
6. Dodge Stratus

Would like opinions on these cars and feel free to add your own. Try to stay below $10,000 and I would like if possible to stay away from a 4 cylinder. V6 is good and V8 is ok if good mileage. Would like over 22 mpg highway if possible.

Honest opinion?? Get a VW..preferably a Polo for your first car...failing that, a nice SMALL Civic that hasnt been riced up.
Get either of those and drive it properly, and you will have a MUCH better chance of still being alive to think about a second car some time in the future.
If new drivers were limited to the power of vehicles they were allowed, a lot more of them would see their 21st birthday.

If however, you can find a Mustang that will any V8 that will return better than 22mpg, will you send it to me please?

Depends how far you want to travel Ian...go along the A26 towards Lille for about 35-40 klicks and there is a big Military Cemetary.. a bit further (another 50 odd K) you have Lille itself, not bad for sightseeing..but as for Calais...to put it bluntly..F**k all
Or...shoot up the motorway into Belgium (about 40K) and at the first turn off in Belgium you can stock up on cheap baccy and fags

Forget about online 'Comparison' sites that spend a fortune advertising on television...if they have that much money to spare, think where it is coming from. They are paid on commission by the various insurers, and beleive me, they take a VERY healthy cut.

Grab your Yellow Pages and see if you have a branch of A-Plan or Swinton near you, and go in and have a chat.. When I insured my cars through A-plan I enquired about the best way to get insurance for EmmyLou in a year or two...they told me that if I were to insure her (at 17) fully comp in a Nissan Micra or similar it would cost...between £750 and £900 a YEAR! This would be her own policy in her name..not as a named driver on my policy...admittedly that would have been slightly cheaper at the start, but by the time she was 20-something then she would not have any NCB, so it was the best way to future cheap insurance for her.
(NOTE>>The guy DID say that girls got cheaper insurance than blokes because they are less likely to play Street Racers in clapped out bangers.....but then again, he doesn't know EmmyLou!!!!)

Simon Cowell would rip her apart on X-Factor...

and not without good reason. Average is an overstatement.

Nowhere near the class of great female singers.

(Annie Lennox, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin...now THEY are great!)

Success = Seeing your kids grow up happy and get into good schools...
Happiness = Being able to go shopping without having to keep a 'running total' in your head so you don't get embarrassed at the checkout.
Security = Not knowing what a debt collector looks like.
Good Job = One where there are more good times than bad times and the majority of tears are tears of laughter.

Example..I am a fully qualified Aircraft Fitter, yet I drive a bus

Moral...F**K what other people think or expect, do what makes you happy!

Quote from Ian.H :The dSRC team site is custom.. no CMS for me / us (too much bloat for my liking)

No "out of the box" web site is ever going to do _exactly_ what you want without some hacking.. so why not just start from scratch (especially considering the complexity (or lack of) for your average team site). IMO, CMS-derived sites all have the "samey samey" look and feel to them.. even when people "change" the themes, they don't really, they just update some colours and images, the actual _design_ 99.9% of the time stays the same.

Regards,

Ian

To clarify..dSRC has a tame coder that eats PHP flavoured cornflakes for breakfast, and thinks that a pearl (perl) lightbulb is a useful item

(j/k Ian...you are OK really! )

@TAA..
Sounds to me that the switch is buggered....buy a new switch! If you can install a PSU in a PC then replacing a switch will be a piece of p!$$..Honestly! Just remember to isolate the circuit BEFORE you start work on it..(either trip the breaker in the main fuse box, if you know which one it is...or just turn everything off at the mains )
The switch usually has a spring and ball-bearing sort of setup, which is held in place by moulded plastic..this isn't a really strong part, and is usually the first thing to go tits up....

HTH
