You could probably get insured on a 1.6 model relatively cheaply, as there "under the radar" in terms of typical first cars, as alot of the boy racers see them as an old mans car, which is good. There not particularly fast, and the interiors are'nt the greatest, but they handle well and are fairly reliable.

Yes, my mondeo is pretty rice but i like the way it looks. The stupid spoiler got removed, as did the bonnet but the kit is saying. Sure, some people dont like it, but its down to preference.

And FYI, the only cars i call rice, are ones that are purely cosmetic, like corsas that get cash spent on them to "look" fast, and those cars that have stupidly stretched tyres so that they cant take a corner.

Sure, my mondy has a kit, but atleast its got the power to back it up, and it can also take corners well and stops well. Just look out for the speed bumps!

And just to add, the only reason im holding onto this car is because its been in the family since 2000, and i genuinely love it. If i wanted a hardcore sports car, then i would drive the M3 or the Pug. The mondeos more of a "LOOK AT ME, IM A CHAV" car, yet it can also take corners if you wanted it to.

Who was the one that was excited because he might be getting his brothers bodykitted Corsa for a first car? Sure, my mondeo looks ricey, but i bet if we posted comparision pics on here and told people to pick one to drive, then they would pick mine.

Hmm, everyone has their likes and dislikes lol.

If I get a Skyline for my next car (R33 GTST) when I'm about 20/21 I already have plans for it, if the R34 Turbo has came down by then I will get the R34 instead, same type of mods will still come a long anyway. Skyline engines are suppose to be nice to tune also, so will deffently have the power to back it up, will get the cosmetics and such like done first though as they will end up costing more.

If you were in NZ, i'd suggest buying a Toyota Corolla 4A-FE Manual...

and slap it on 3rd party. (would be like.. $300 max for insurance a year)
I may get a E36 as what I was going to do to the E30 has been done before down here and the guy is now taking it to the next stage of cutting away metal that isn't needed, for example where the spare wheel goes and is then getting replaced with light alloy sheets, basically a pure track car/race car.

So I am now going to do my plans on a E36 instead.

ah yes the 1st car thing.... i personaly think you could get off cheaper by buying an old... (80 or later) car.... my 1st car was a 64 1/2 mustang... and i restored it compleatly just under 5,000 USD.... ((yea i'm american)) but yea... its the cheapest and best way to go... if i were to get into a wreck (which i do on lfs 10% of the time) with a newer car.... mine would come out with dents... and the other 1 would be TOTALED!!!! so yea.... the older the better.... in the 20's - the 50's cars were made out of pure steel.... not plastic and aluminum like today... so yea.... HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!!:balloons:
A Mustang as a first car in England? lol, do you know how high the insurance prices are in the UK?

I would be getting an E36 318is if the insurance wasn't high, but the 316i is £1,700 TPFT whereas for an extra 40bhp and a bit more torque, the 318is is £3,000.

So really, it's the best BMW I can get for cheapish insurance costs.

Bigger cars only work like that in low speed crashes, in a High speed crash, You're worse off.

You're lucky you can get a quote that low sam, I can't get no quotes lower than £2500 for a 316 :/ bloody ridiculous.
I sold my golf today and phoned up to change my insurance to a 1.0 12v corsa B, it's value is about £500 and it put my insurance up.... Not by much, but yea, just shows you how much effect the boy racers in their corsas has made to insurance prices.

I'm in a category D part of Plymouth (even though no crime happens like that around this part) So it's £1700 TPFT for me or £1200 TPFT if my Dad takes a policy out and puts me as a named driver, if my Dad does take a policy out for me, I might go FC as it's only £1400 - an extra £200.
If you dad adds you as a named driver, but your actually using the car the most, then that is insurance fraud and your insurance will be invalid.

Its your choice whether you do it or not.

Well, you obviously dont. Without a doubt, your going to be using the car the most (i believe you want to deliver food in it?) so your going to be doing alot of miles, so you will most likely be doing more miles than your dad would be doing. So, to sum up, you could be a named driver, but only if your dad was the main driver as the car would have to be in his name for you to be a named driver, which in theory, means it is HIS car, not yours.

The named driver thing was an idea, but for the extra £500, I might aswell just insure it myself, just means I will be paying close to £200 a month for insurance as I want to buy an SV650S with the money I get off of my motorbike.
