Le Mans 2008 *** SPOILERS ***
So the big one is this weekend. Should be very exciting to see all the new hardware out there. Anybody going? Anybody excited?

I'm going out on a limb and say Audi pull out the 8th win in a row (if you include the "Bentley"). That said, Peugot looks stronger than ever.

My biggest hope is that the race isn't marred by a questionable extended SC period under rain again.

Anyone see Marc Gene's lurid crash of his 908? Scary stuff, glad he's alright.

[aside] Also, this sadly marks another year where LFS has no LMP style car, one would be a welcome addition. Radical now has had a car in Le Mans for 2 years(?), and with the existing ties with iRental and the SR8, it's not too far fetched to imagine irental will get it soon too. Hopefully we will get one sooner or later for some awesome multi-class endurance racing.[/aside]

Is the Radical running this year a privately run SR8? Not to be confused with the SR9 works car which is a conventional prototype rather than a nominally road legal, steel spaceframe bike (derived) engined sports racing car like the SR8.

No the Radical is still the SR9 afaik. They did fairly well last year I believe, but le mans is tough regardless of the class.
I predict the peugot to lead for say 12 hours then the audi to run pretty much near bullet proof and take the win. Also Aston will pwn vette nuff said. In GT2 its gonna go to the ferraris i think. Although porsche are putting in a LOT for this year of le mans so look out for the factory team. LMP2 is gonna go to the porsches. There is simply just nothing comparable to them, even with the ACOs attempts to slow them down they still frequently beat some of the LMP1 cars. Although i dont expect that to happen on a track like le mans with the long straights.
Anyone have a link to an online broadcast?
I'm switching my cable and don't have Speed Channel right now...

Eurosport is supposed to have free streaming but unfortunately restricted to Europe only. I'll post links later (but before the 1st qualifying session today). Even the scrutineering was streamed yesterday so probably all of the qualifyings will too.

Other way to watch, which goes to the grey area: http://www.tvunetworks.com, install the player and there's a channel called "53060 Wheels" which actually is Speed. I'm fairly sure the stream is illegal but the program itself is legal.

For some easy access to the SPEEDtv TVU stream I've put up the web interface on SCORE. Pay it a visit, click the link that says "Streaming TV". www.SCORE.does.it

Oh yes, an LMP class car(s) would be a welcome addition to LFS. The GT cars are very fun to drive, LMP would be awesome.

My prediction:
Audi takes overall win, but Peugeot will finish with more cars.

Just going out on a limb here.
Hm, i guess my post didn't come thorugh, so yeah.

Pug for the win IMO, unless ofcourse they have problems, and DBR9 for GT1.
1st qual starts in 17:00 UTC. Couldn't find any streams yet - might be that there are no because it's not on Eurosport 2 either, but the 2nd qual tonight will be (which starts 20:00 UTC).

Coverage on Radio Le Mans has already started because there's Group C Legends Race qual going on.

Thanks for all the links everyone.
Quote from deggis :...and Epsilon Euskadi gets another entry:

http://www.planetlemans.com/20 ... nd-epsilon-euskadi-is-in/

Glad to see that one. Damn that's a sexy car.

While Audi will probably win, I'd like to say what I hope will happen:

P1 - Epsilon
P2 - Dyson Porsche RS Spyder
GT1 - Vette (Fellows, if he's driving this year. Can't remember)
GT2 - Lets go with.. uh.. Flying Lizard.
Overall - Either Epsilon or Dyson. Or Flying Lizard.
Thanks for the linkage!
3:18.513 for teh Pug

And last year's pole was 3:26...
Pug's are flying! 2 3:18's now... Very Very Quick.
2nd session started.

Now the streams have commentary.

English:

French one:
mms://livestream.eurosport.com/nogeo/75206.wsx

For some reason, at least for me, if I play that English one in Media Player Classic, the quality is totally crap, but in VLC it's works better.

Why was the session stopped? i just got back and saw it.
One of the Pescarolos crashed, and I guess some oil was also cleared from the track
I see, Well another car flipped. Its some kind of trend, Its reminding me of a certain F1 weekend in the 90s at imola.
Today as well??

Marc Gene had a nasty crash in the Pug earlier this month.
Update:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/68220

Turn 1 aerial crash from a Lola Mazda. Driver is OK.

Apparently this happend after spinning off, not from aerodynamics like the Pug or the Mercedes before it.

Quote :Noda's Kruse-run Lola-Mazda spun through the fast first corner, and the car took off when it hit the gravel while sideways.
