Big thumb up for 45 degrees steering angle. There`s no other use for XRT`s but just drift with it. As far as I`ve heard, those who have S2 license and races, hardly never uses XRT for racing.

But well, if you don`t want to increase the maximum steering lock, take off the slidability (lol ) and put super softs available on the street cars too, since "we`re all racing".

As a matter of fact, drifting is a lot like racing. Wouldn`t say that from showdrifting, but all the twin battles are alot like racing. You just get style points from how you drive, and you get judged by the speed, angle and amount of smoke. The more you got all of them, the more you get points. And just in case someone didn`t know, if you pass your opponent while doing a drift in a battle, you`ll win immediatly.

I mean, come on! Even drag racing is called racing, eventhough you can even teach a monkey to push the pedal to the metal (in this case, probably to carbonfibre) and shift gears.
And drifting is even getting more and more popular form of racing in the world!

Yeah I think the last time I raced the XRT was... yesterday. About 9pm-ish.

You meanie! (Runs away trying to be an EMO)

Don't believe everything you're told

you get judged for style
and you win the run if your opponent is incapable of driving sideways...

don't see much racing here...

Drag Racing is called racing because the winner is the first to the finish line...
Drifting is a motorsport because the winner is the one who drives his car sideways better

anyway, a big, fat -1 to the 45 degree lock, if you can't do it with 36 degrees - you're better off picking daisies and baking cupcakes, it's not as embaracing as not being able to perform a good slide in a RWD car

Well, my "what I`ve heard" opinion depended on few random thoughts coming out of the mouths of users of LFS forums

ps. Damn I hate English "of, of, of, of ofofofo, fofofoof"

Fooofiiiieeee, lol
There are quite a lot of XRTs racing on CTRA Race 2 every day.
Quote from zeugnimod :There are quite a lot of XRTs racing on CTRA Race 2 every day.

Yup, since it's the only proper car to drive in that class, when I'm stuck with driving the horrid TBO class, the XRT is the one I choose

these are some nice assumptions you've posted, but as somoene who helps hands out nopi drift liscences in real life and is pretty familiar on drifting etiquette im going to clear up several of your misconceptions.

1) no drift sereies on earth really judges on smoke. you cant. different tire compounds produce different smoke, different driving styles produce different smoke. back in 2001 smoke was important, but in 2007 its really not.

2) the only series that still even ALLOWS passing is d1, and i hear that may not be around much longer either. (passing rule, not the series).

in the argument ofadding steering angle it also means making you guys realize what drifting is about that are giving it so much unwarranted flack. its about having fun.

and again, nobody is saying its impossible to drift with 36*, its quite possible, and there are a lot of turns you can drift at 90* on lfs if you do it right, but but but the added 9* of steering angle would increase the cars capabilities, and right now from what i've seen on servers over the last couple days, theres a lot of people at the capabilities of the car, and i think it would make it way more interesting if 9* of steering angle was allowed to be tuned into the car.

Also all you racers that dont seem to notice the fact that the steering angle paramiter is adjustable, even if its max 45*, you can turn it down to 12* and act like you're driving a dodge viper with 10'' wide slicks on front all you want on a video game. its adjustable.

Nooo, the RB4 is the car to chose from that class!!
Pff, real men drive RWD, did you forget that??
As you know since this one race at Westhill last week on CTRA Race 2 I'm a sissy.
do u have to win races on CTRA1 to get into CTRA2? i know nothing about it

So true

Seriously, none of the REALLY good drifters are asking for move lock, only the ones who can't even drift on oval are asking for such silly stuff...
Oh boy..

Truth is, the ones(for example Riders Motion) who usually say that "really good" drifters don't need more steering lock are just not good enough to see the advantages of 45 or more. And on top of that probably don't really use G25 or DFP at realistic steering range.

Am I fine with 36? Yes, do I want more steering lock? Yes, because it opens more possibilites.

Will this feature do any harm to racers? No it won't. Will it do any harm to selfish people? I hope so.

Do I understand why many people in this thread are saying NO to 45 and saying how shit drifting is? No, I honestly don't. Is it because many of you are bored and want to join a group of people that can "load out" on others? I have no idea.

You can ask, why do I bother answering then? Well I have hope that Scawen actually might see that there is nothing wrong with 45 degrees in LFS. I also hope that he realises how close to real life LFS drifting is.

Dot Whoops. Really 11 pages fight over 9 more degrees in steering lock?

Ammmmmm.
Kamkor, you're part of the 'very good drifters', I think it COULD be nice to have 45 degree of lock, but honestly thought I don't need it and the rest of the physics aren't developped enough (in my opinion) to allow such a huge range of lock. When in real life did you saw a car going 90 degree manji's on a distance of 100m? Having so much lock at this point of the game developement would make the car feel so much unreal... Let's wait for proper tire simulation THEN we might think of having JDM yo dori angle lock...
1. Show me you doing 100 meters manjis 90 degree angle drift easily and lots of drifts like this in corners. Also doing massive angle drifts with very sharp transitions. On top of that with G25 or Dfp with 720 lock or more. Also if you know a person that can do all of this without a problem let me know. Will sure be happy to take a few tips form such guy.

( Not too mention that people call 90 degree anything that is done with full lock and most of the time isn't even close to 90 degrees. )

2. Do you have your own experience or opinion of very experienced drifter to judge physics the way you do at the moment?
Quote from kamkorPL :Am I fine with 36? Yes, do I want more steering lock? Yes, because it opens more possibilites.

Well... It would mean we'd all use 45 degrees of steering if it might be useful on certain circuits, so it would have an effect on us - we'd all have unrealistic amounts of steering lock on tap whenever we wanted it.

I would prefer having a specialist "drift" car added, although I realise that would involve a lot more work.
Or option for 45 degrees lock just on drift servers. But honestly I can't see use of 45 degrees lock in racing, in saving spins etc. Actually as you know, when you save a spin and use maximum counter-lock it doesn't give proper results, more likely lots of time loss or in worst scenario a flick to the other side.

Do you really believe it would help in racing? I can only imagine one situation - when the race track is a parking lot and the goal is to park in as many places as possible in a given time. Maybe it would be useful on rally cross too with rwd cars like lx6. But hey, in sliding/drift situations mostly.

Even in the old days when there was 45 degrees lock all the setups from best racers had much less lock. 45 was mostly used in drift sets along with other options that help drift, but let's say give ugly understeer in racing.

parking dorifto!
Quote from Riders Motion : When in real life did you saw a car going 90 degree manji's on a distance of 100m? .

where do you see drifters actually let lose on straightaways?

go look up some video from champ car demo's in cleveland. we got so bored there in 2005 we started just doing 360's every other transition down the straightaways and me and ken gushi were shooting each other with paintball guns in drift on track. but the point i was trying to make was where can people do manji nowadays? nobody videos the open lapping days where people are drifting down 1000' long straightaways i 4th gear, but look up vids from hawaii as they have the most documented bit of it. people do it all the time, whentheres a straightaway available to do it on.

the 90*thing is a limited scenario thing, you can only do it on corners where you have a much higher entry than exit speed, where you come in near perpendicular, hold throttle, then you wait for the rear to regain traction, transition, and back to clutchkicking yoru way around the next corner at normal speed. it would just be more controllable with more steering angle. its impossible to hold 90* around a sweeper or anything as you lose a lot of speed doing it. but on a corner you can enter in 5th, followed by a 3rd gear corner, using the massive amounts of angle and a 4wheel drift to slow the car down works well, and is kinda fun.

im not saying i do it every single corner, im just saying its doable and it'd be easier with more steering angle as would a lot of things, and would increase the fun factor of the game tremendously to those already bored with 36*.
Maybe if you are bored with 36 degree drifting you could try 36 degree racing.

Just a thouhgt
eh, i've done that and have fun. i just like the drifting better. to me its more fun.

with the drifting stuff i can just go slide around with my 20 dollar ps2 controller and have fun.

what are your thoughts in reguard to having fun?
I find racing to be more fun. Mostly because I can't drift to save my life. But I don't exclude the fact that some people find their fun in drifting.

As the XRT seems to be the car of choice for the drifters maybe the lock should be increased. But only for XRT. I don't see the harm in that.

Wasn't the lock decreased in the past?
My thoughts are that maybe the 20 dollar ps2 controller might be the reason you don't have as much fun with racing.
works way better than the keyboard. and thats all im letting myself spend in the "video game racing" dept when i've got a real raceteam / moneypit already. dont need a sim money pit, lol.
