What is this 'woman', 'girl' and 'female' you guys keep talking about? :s

I prefer the old fonts in the HUD as well. I find the italic digital typeface just too hard to read, mostly due to a low contrast between the words itself and the constantly changing background.

They work great in the dashboards though.

I was sad to hear the news yesterday. While I've never participated in any leagues (with exception of one race in the internal league, go me), I do enjoyed hanging out with likeminded people.

I remember my first talks with Rob about Team NiC. I was driving the RB4 on South City exclusively and having a great time. Back then time didn't allow me to commit myself to leagues already, so any team I would join would need to be one without obligations -- putting fun as the most important aspect. Which is why I am so sad about this decision. I can understand the inactivity and the resulting frustration, but I cannot understand the decision to end the team. To me that comes across as having lost the 'fun' in everything NiC related we've done in the community, which is certainly not true, I think.

Regardless, I am gratefull to have met some people in the community. I am sure we'll keep seeing eachother in #teamnic on irc.gamesurge.net </shamelessplug> and maybe bump into eachother on the track.

At the very least, I hope hosting the website and forum made it just a bit more enjoyable for the people involved. It's the least I could do and still plan on doing for as long as possible.

Thank you Rob and MrAss and everyone else for your work. Take care

ButterTyres, a non-managed dedicated server often comes with plenty of bandwidth. Packages offering anything from 900GB to 2TB a month for around $100 are common. A non-managed server requires you to do the maintenance though.

I have plenty of bandwidth left (about 700GB), but I am afraid 30GB of files (and the future) would be pushing it. Tiny harddrive, unfortunately.

thisnameistaken, not being able to use it shouldn't stop you from using what IE does offer. IE does offer CSS expressions, which do allow you to mimick min/max-height/width. In combination with conditional comments only IE will get the proprietary code.

I've recently finished a project in which the layout uses both a min-width and max-width. There are some annoying issues to get around, but it's a viable solution. In a perfect world, we'd only use standard solutions, but there's no such thing as a perfect world, unfortunately. CSS expressions are the best IE can offer you.

Quote from Clownpaint :Wow, a silly interface that your average joe won't make head to tail from and a bit more standards compliancy.

*dumps Firefox, IE is where it's at!

Yes, thanks for putting words in my mouth. I figured someone would do that.

I am Mozilla Firefox user and I won't ever switch back to IE or any other browser myself. My point is that people shouldn't put down IE7 like that, because it contains stuff other browsers should take a look at.

thisnameistaken, I agree, but it's not the like you can't overcome the lack of support for it either.

ORION, that's ClearType and it's enabled by default. You can turn it off.

I find it strange everyone is giving IE7 such a hard time. They are doing a lot of innovative work in the interface and while it might take you time to adjust to it, it'll be for the better. IE7, as is Office 12, is moving away from the conventional (and highly non user friendly) "File/Edit..." toolbar, because many of the options available in it are either not relevant to the majority of your tasks, or are not used.

While they're doing, in my opinion, good work to the interface part, they also introduce some good enhancements to existing metaphors. Asa Dotzler, leader of Mozilla QA and Testing and co-founder of Spread Firefox, has pointed out some of these in a recent blog post.

They're also doing good work in the standards compliance department. Still not as good as competitors, but they're at least doing something and increases support for standards originating from 1996 and 1998. While the Beta 2 Preview also introduces some bugs in its standards support, I think it's really good to see that they're actively working on the rendering engine and actively hacking away at it too...

Myriad Roman is definitely high up on my list. Like Helvetica Neue a bit overused, but it just so sexy. I've also been impressed by a recently released typeface called Fonce Sans by Ryan Ford. It's a very specific kind of typeface I have been looking for a long time already.

Another one I enjoy using is Baskerville Old Face and Maiola Roman. Very nice serif typefaces, in my opinion.

Last but not least, Microsoft's fixed-width Consolas has permantely replaced Courier in all my editors and commandlines.

Evidentely, Comic Sans is the root of all evil.

I have Forza Motorsport and enjoyed it quite a bit, considering the fact that it's played with a controller most of the time.

It needs to be realized that there are two sides to the whole simulation marketing campaign both Forza Motorsport and GT4 had. While they don't even come near the sophisticated engine we see in Live For Speed, the parts, customization and number of vehicles do simulate another part of a racing experience. I think both games are doing a very good job in this latter part.

Nonetheless, Forza Motorsport is good and a lot of fun, if you just accept it for what it is. Can't be compared to LFS, in my opinion.

Things. Stuff. Work.

Usually gets the message across you can't bother to talk about allowing for the perfect opportunity to ask them what they have done.

Yes, please. Too often I've had someone reset himself right in front of me on the racing line -- when you're at first place fighting off number two and three behind you in a reasonably long race, it isn't something you wish for.

Quote from gunja :Impossible? Are you saying that there shouldnt be overtaking in the first corner? One of the best ways to climb the grid is to take every "possible" chance you get to overtake at the start (that would include first corners) but it takes skills. Naturaly, all people have their own ways so i'm not saying yours is wrong. I just say that sometimes the guy that hits you is not always to blame (in case you did the described action to prevent his).

No, I am not saying that. Please don't put words into my mouth

I am merely saying that you cannot expect to drive on the limit when you have cars all around you. You need to drive a certain amount below the limit, so you have space for moves you might need to make to avoid someone in front of you, behind you or wherever. Of course, there are exceptions and I care to think I am among the people who can drive very fast in the pack.

Funny enough, I completely agree with you. The person behind is not always responsible for a nudge/crash. I've seen some people makes sudden and awkward moves that makes you wonder whether they're planning to apply for LFS Circus or something..

Saying the person behind is always responsible can be taken wrong very easily. In fact, I've often seen people use it as an excuse to brake a bit early or close the gap. As I said, it's live and let live. Giving eachother space to race is what has given me plenty of exciting races

Quote from gunja :Sometimes the guys at the back are not to blame. There are times when people at the front start to brake too early, they realize that the guy behind is going to pass so they close the line.

In a normal field where the experience and skill of the driver vary a lot, it's impossible to start driving on the limit in the first corners already -- you simply don't have the room for that.

It's a matter of live and let live.

Oh wow. The day The Ring is released for LFS is the day my life is complete.

Pretty sad yeah.
