Quote from AcesHigh :This is how admining is done!

I remember back in 08 and early 09 when i used to admin our driftserver, i gave people 999 bans all the time... not for no apparent reason ofcourse...

but driving the rb4 and constantly slamming into people because they drift slower is something that can easy be prevented. Also bumping and cutting the line when we are drifting 1vs1 on a special layout, and then claim you "didnt know" or when you drive the wrong way becase you "didnt know"... sorry if you are that retarded you deserve a 999 ban. Thats why we had quite a hardcore group of drifters that stayed on the server...

Anyways to get back on topic. A 999 ban for deliberate crashing and just beeing an **** actually isnt enough, they should loose their LFS license IMO...

Perhaps you should try to make somekind of "network" for server owners where you have a "shared" banlist so that the rammers and idiots will loose out on all the good servers.

Agreed.

There are two reasons for administration. One is to teach ppl some respect and the other is to clean up a server so ppl can race/play properly. These bans are not for teaching but for cleaning up!

Quote from racer hero :Not the same at all, his car is an object which he owns, and is not for public use. What you speak through the internet is in the public and therefore legal to record.

It isn't. Its a service we provided to NDR.

They are guest on the server. They do what we sppecificly allow them to do.

We can allow or disallow whatever we want. It's not like MSN. It's not a public service.

Quote from boothy :You're deluded if you think you didn't give him the ability to record stuff.

Sure, try insulting people when you know your wrong...

Know the difference between giving the ability and allowing?

Your car can drive faster then 100 mph so your are allowed to drive that speed?

Quote from PMD9409 :A phantom in channel and a recording serves the same purpose, and that is to hear the voice of the drivers to see what they have to say. A passworded channel is so that other drivers can't hear your race strategy, and has nothing to do with the admins. Deko didn't distribute this recording AFAIK, and even if he did, you shouldn't have anything to regret to begin with.

A recording is only a positive thing, thinking of it as negative is because you did something on that recording that was negative.

He's on our server and he will do on it what we allow him to. We did not allow him to record anyone.

Period.

He can go record people on his own ventrilo server.

Quote from Mp3 Astra :I'd better post my thoughts on the race. I think what really sums up this race is my current facial expression. I'm still smiling even though the race finished more than 15 hours ago and I've had time to sleep on it. I had a lot of fun in the commentary box; what you couldn't hear were the two hidden commentators, CSF and Fuse5. They were constantly telling us ridiculous (and sometimes useful) stuff about the racing that was going on, and insisted that Buck still had a chance to win the race, with 30 laps to go.

The racing itself was exciting. Only 11 actually crossed the finish line but that doesn't really bother me. I think nearly everyone tried their best to stay out of trouble and provide some great action. I know some people have been complaining that they have been taken out of their comfort zone in this race and that the other drivers weren't following the 'FM way' of doing things. Simply, there is no official way of doing an oval race in LFS. It's up to all the drivers to understand who is where. That's it. There's no rules on how to draft. All that is asked is that you drive with foresight and some spatial awareness. I think that the quality of racing can only get better and, if there is a race next year, next year's race will surpass even this one.

That was a bit of a ramble, but hey, I'm still a little tired.

Seems like you just shot yourself in the foot

We were the ones that looked around us all the time. We got crashed by people that clearly didn't. So what was it you were trying to say again?

Quote from Skydiver173 :Deko,

I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, but I (and any other driver qualifying the Kyoto 500) should have the right to spectate and witness these 'private sessions', correct? Afterall, as one of the racers, I feel a ton of pressure on my shoulders having to run my qualifying session in front of 35 other people. I believe that these people should also feel the pressure.

Also, are we allows to 'bump' these people should we feel that we could do better? I guess I'm and confused because the qualifying session is a race in itself. Afterall, during qualifying day, we are all racing against each other to make the best time. How can can we race against people who are not there?

I would like to be a witness to these sessions. Please post time and date that they will occur so those who choose, can be there. Afterall, During the Indy500 qualifying, they don't make special days for those that can't make it... either you're in, or not... simple.

Looks like the rulebook needs tweaking a bit, huh?

I agree.

But personally I would like to take this one step further. You either qualify on the days assigned for it or you don't qualify at all. If you can't even be bothered to show up for the 2 days (4 blocks in total) that are supplied by the organizers... should you even bother at all?

The format for this qualy is obvious and it is supposed to be a race. I see no other way to join then to join when it is on. Anyone not able to show up on these two days cannot mix into the order that is established on these two days. They should only be allowed to race when there are still slots open and from the back...

Just keep in mind that when you've selected a car, in the garage in the steering menu you also have a wheelturn setting at the right of the screen. Don't adjust that one. If you are in a GTR it will be set to 540 but if you change that one to 720 you force the car to a default 720 making the steering way too indirect. Once you set the wheelturn in the control options you dont have to change it anymore. In the setup its just there for reference so you can see what wheelturn that car should sync to.

Atl east that what I figured was your initial error when you said you changed 540 to 720. That can only have been in the garage provided it was then synched to 720+

Quote from Scawen :Thanks you for that investigation.

I think there is an illusion effect that seems to make the mirrors look too low in most of the cars. The 3D to 2D projection seems to amplify the width of that glass above the mirror.

It always seems strange to me, they look right from outside and wrong from inside. But then sitting in a real car, shutting one eye, measuring the apparent size of the mirror and the gap above it, between two fingers etc... seems to show that it's just an illusion.

I was thinking it had to do with not phisically being in the scene but then I realized that when you look through a window at an interior you don't have this effect either.

The only, far fetched, reason I can think of is that we dont just measure distance by perspective but also by measuring the angle between both our eyes and the amount we have to focus to get it sharp. Because we don't have that info when we look at a computer screen our brains do not correct it.

I can think of an experiment with track IR. When it would be possible to blur the entire scene except for the 3d-object that is in the line of focus, maybe part of the illusion is restored.

Quote from Scawen :Try sitting in a real car. You will notice the rear mirror is not way up high above your head at the top of the windscreen. In fact the bottom of the mirror is just slightly above your eye height.

It wouldnt help because most cars these days have a very different cockpit compared to the XR. I'm 6'6" tall and in most cars my line of sight is somewhere at the top lining of the windscreen

But stilll I was in error though. Applying some geometry on the XR (pencil and printscreen of the XR side view) learned that it is in the proper position but the XR has a relatively high cut windscreen so there is quite a slab of glass above the mirror which was what gave me the idea the positioning was wrong.

Anyway, just to get that out of the way. It's not related to the patch.

Quote from Ramses :XRT became undrivable. Mirror is now at its best at the center of the windscreen and at worst on top of the dashboard???

I really cant drive with a mirror like that. It already was way to low but but it got worse now.

After doing some comparisons with Y24 it seems its more the shape. It did end up lower then before but the hight makes the difference.

I tested in on "the corkscrew" at Aston and whole cars fit behind it that you only notice after reaching the bottom. I would say the lowest possible verticaloffset setting should be what the highest is now.

The black sky problem only occurs in widescreen mode. That is in my case on a normal 17" screen with black bands at the top and bottom.

EDIT: verified with other users online and they have the same problem.

Quote from Scawen :I assume you can see the sky in the mirrors because it is just a plain colour.

Does this happen every time you run LFS? Any way to reproduce or not reproduce it?

Single player / multiplayer / any unusual menu sequence you used to get into the game?

Someone I was online with had the same problem but after reconnecting with the server it was ok again. But for me nothing would accomplish that. I took the install from another computer and replaced all data exept the texture dirs and replay dirs and patched that. Now everything is fine.

EDIT: The guy I was talking about did not have the same problems as me!

For some reason I lost my sky. On all tracks the sky is black. I'm doing some testing now to see if I can correct it myself.

Quote from March Hare :I use Michelin because I have them on my real car too.

BTW are there any differences in LFS between the tyres?

No, just the name on the sidewalls. The differences are only between R1-R2-etc.

Before the patch I only used Michelin just because I like the brand. Now I use Avon and Bridgestone as well.

I haven't voted as I can only vote for one. For a poll like this, that makes it pritty useless to be honest. Can it be changed?

Quote from juurme :Well i cant join CTRA race servers it says i need higher license...And i dont wanna race at CTRA race 1 coz its S1...
O and how can i get higher license at CTRA

Just join the Race 1 server. You don't need a license there, in fact you acquire one there.

Be prepared though. It aint the Gentlemen's Drivers Club for sure but that will get prolly much better when you got a Silver License so you can get away from there.

Bronze?

What does a bronze license actually mean? I recently acquired one but it seems to matter little. Was there any significance in the past or am I missing something?

I was looking for information on the CTRA site for this but found none. I did check the available server page so I know now that it doesn't mean I can drive more cars nor that I can finally get away from the Race 1 server.

It's not that I expected flowers or anything but bronze looks kind of arbitrary this way
