Quote from Scawen :[...]LFS uses the mouse movement all the way from the left side of your screen to the right side of the screen to move your car steering from the left to right extreme.[...]

Please, never change this behavior, AC1 and ACC use a different system where the mouse is locked in the middle of the screen and just the steering moves, it feels much worse than LFS, more unnatural, the way it's right now is good enough

Quote from Degats :It could potentially even reduce the distance to other cars where physics calculations could be turned off (assuming this is already a thing)

This is exactly what we did during the development of the multiplayer mod for BeamMP, sadly I don't have any recording with higher pps, but look how the car in front looks with 40 packets per second with ZERO physics calculations (notice how the car movement is a little bit jittery, that's because between each packet received the car had zero speed until the next position update was received)

Later on development speed information was also added in the packets so you wouldn't need to be running always above 60pps to look smooth, and that's how it turned out as smooth as the videos I posted some messages above

Quote from Degats :Servers' connection speeds and bandwidth limits have increased a *lot* since the current pps settings were done. There's a lot of room for improvement.

That's my point. When I started playing LFS S1 in ~2003 I had a 786mhz single core AMD Duron CPU with a 28.8kbps bandwidth

Today I have a 9 years old 4600mhz quad-core hyper threaded CPU with a 120,000.0kbps bandwidth

Also keep in mind that nowadays it's possible to get CPUs that are ~40% better in single thread and 400+% better in multithread than mine and also it's not that uncommon to see homes with 1,000,000.0kbps bandwidth...

Quote from RC-Maus :but Victor says the it would take to much cpu use Shrug

To be honest that sounds like a bs excuse... And even if it was true, why not leave it to us choose what our CPUs are able to handle?

Quote from Dygear :Physics Engine doesn't need that many packets to keep in sync. So the real question is ... Why more if that's all you need?

Look how spiky and choppy the car movement looks with 3~6 packets per second in LFS

Now compare it to what 30~100+ packets per second looks like in BeamMP:

To me it's very clear that 6 packets per second is NOT all we need Wink
Why limit to such a low packets per second? (Server Hosting)

I understand that when the multiplayer of LFS was coded it was common to have extremely slow internet speed

But time has passed and the average internet speed must have gone up like 1000 times

It makes me wonder, why is it still limited to only 6 packets per second?

At home for example I have 10mbps of upload speed, which is nothing special nowadays, and still it would be able to handle 47 guests with 40 cars on track with ease (and let's be honest I would never get that much people to join a random in-home server)

For some reason it allows up to 12 packets per second in a local server, which my 10mbps internet would still handle ~33 cars

I imagine that a gigabit dedicated link would be able to host several servers at 60+ packets per second

I participated on the development of the multiplayer mod for BeamNG and during the development we did some tests, we could easily surpass 100 packets per second without issues

So what's the limiting factor here? Why local is allowed to use 12 and online only 6?

Yes, I'm sure it wasn't those videos, it wasn't a long, technical video, if I remember correctly it was a short commercial teaser, like something that goes on television

In a nostalgic moment some flashbacks came to my mind about a video announcing BF1 to LFS, if I remember correctly there was a guy playing LFS in a laptop in an airport or something like that...

I tried searching on youtube but couldn't find this video, does anyone here still have it?

I used to play LFS on populated servers with a Dell 1525 (Intel T7250 2.00GHz w/ GMA 965) above 30fps at 1440x900...

Keep in mind that this laptop is from 12~13 years ago

Don't know how well it would run new blackwood and westhill, but you definitely don't need anything expensive to play LFS

I would say that any integrated GPU from intels 3rd gen (2012) or above should be able to run above 60fps

Mine was around 2003~2004, I used to race almost all nights on Viper Racing with Val (http://vnovak.com/)

We used vrgt chat (http://www.vrgt.com/) to communicate before entering the server

One night while waiting Val to appear and open the server, someone that was on the chat also waiting for him, said that I should try LFS and I did

At the time I was 10~11 yo and was really bad at taking corners with the S1 physics, so I spent most of the time drag racing on the BL1 straight

I remember that we used an "nitrous", that much later I discovered that it was a cheat that made the handbrake power negative, making the wheels accelerate more rather than braking them Tongue

In 2005 me and my brother convinced our parents to buy S2 for us, and we shared the "Specht" account until 2008, when I bought S2 just for me

Sorry for doublepost!

So, I found 0.6G here on my PC, don't need to download it

Buuut even with demo 0.5X, I copied the replays there, and turns out that 0.5X can play only replays newer than 18/06/2007, older replays are also tagged as "obsolete", it seems that I need a even older version

Quote from Nilex :The latest of interest to you is X10. X version can be found if you search "LFS_S2_ALPHA_X" but the X to X10 patch is more difficult. Search "LFS_PATCH_X_TO_X10" and avoid shady sites. I managed to get a clean link as 9th result, on Saudi site no less.

Is it possible to login to S2 on X10? I downloaded X from the link Ziomek21 sent me, and I can't login

Quote from Ziomek21 :Link sent via PM.

Thanks, downloaded X, still need to find 0.6G, and how to unlock X

Quote from Ziomek21 :Take a look at the latest release of LFS Lazy - it has an enhanced replay browser. It might not work with the old Westhill versions - it needs to be checked.

Never used it, will take a look, thanks

Quote from Ziomek21 :LFS 0.5Y, released in December 2007, introduced new tire physics, so any prior replays have been made obsolete. You might need 0.5X or even some earlier releases. The problem is that it might be impossible to log in to your S2 account due to some changes to the master server (I think).

The old Westhill has been replaced in the patch 0.6H, so 0.6G is the last version with the older spec.

Thanks, let's hope that I'll be able to login, do you know where I can find these versions?

Quote from Ziomek21 :...and also the ability to select locations of skins_x, skins_y and mpr folders, so that they can be stored in online backed-up folders, etc.
Right now, LFS does not seem like the most sentimental game there is, unfortunately. You can have multiple folders for respective versions, but then you're tied to the limiations of the game at that period in time (no replay scrollbar, etc.).

And also filters for tracks and cars would be very useful, for example, I have 656 MPRs, and I remember that LFSBR (league) had just one race on BL Rallycross, I wanted to watch the replay, but I don't have any idea when this race ocurred or what's the name of the MPR, so I need to click every single MPR (the arrows don't work) and read what track it's and the race duration to find a long race on BL Rallycross

Quote from Skinzinho :The easier way to get your replays back is download previous versions. Many of them still available on downloads page.

I can't find any old S2 version on the downloads page, just old S1 versions, am I looking in the wrong place?
Latest LFS versions compatible with older Replays?
Specht77

Despite the fact that since 2012 I rarely play LFS, I still have my LFS installation since 2005...

I have 656 MPRs saved from 2005 to 2012, and I was in a nostalgic moment watching these replays here...

But since I'm on 0.6R version, a bunch of these MPRs are incompatible...

The first replay that I can play is from 12/12/2007, it was recorded on v0.5X30

But still there are lots of replays from 2008~2012 that I can't play, some say "OBSOLETE REPLAY", I believe these are MPRs on Blackwood

Also, the MPRs on WE don't show as obsolete, but when I try to play it the game crashes for obvious reasons (is this a bug or my game has something wrong from being updated numerous times since 2005? Isn't it supposed to say obsolete as BL MPRs and don't crash?)

So...

The latest version with the old BL I suppose is 0.6Q right?

What would be the lastest version with the old WE?

And what version would be compatible with replays before 12/12/2007?

Is there any place where I can download these versions?

Thanks in advance.

edit: new page, what a coincidence

What I understand of what they did, is that they didn't prohibited anyone from modding, they just removed the "showroom" of mods from the forum, so they don't have any legal problem with ripped content on mods

You can still make mods and post them anywhere but the official forum

The modding subforum will still have "how to" topics

"Hello 3D artists! Once again we need your help, this time with a mid to late 90s touring car class. Polygon count is 9000-12000, we aim for 4dr sedans but we'll allow one estate as well. As always you may seek inspiration, but no direct copies of real life counterparts allowed. We will provide a tyre model for reference, you can see the detailed specifications of wheels, aero, safety etc. down below. Top 5 entries will receive 500 £ each and get their vehicle put into the game after final touch-ups by Eric."

It trully would be great if they follow this idea

The original rFactor and GTR2 had brake temperature and fade (failure), but it would rarely happen because of the parameters used on the .ini of each car

Messing with .ini you could make very fragile brakes
