3 Pin (yellow, red, white)
Hello, can someone please help me with this, you know on the PS2, to connect it to the TV, there are those Yellow, red and White pins. Now i was wondering what they are called, and if you can get an adaptor to convert it to VGA or dvi, like (3 Pin (yellow, red, white)) -----> VGA/DVI

This is because i'd like to connect it to my computer screen.

Thank you
Harjun
Composite I think
Actually, composite video is only part of the answer. Some googling/wikipediaing (hmmm, what is that form of the verb "To wiki"?) tells me that connectors are RCA connectors for composite video, or often called Phono plugs.

ok thanks, i'm sure there are lots of names for it nonetheless.

So this should do the trick?

Its pretty expensive though, are there any cheaper? I saw the VGA to Composite were £1, so why is this like £20 more

Yes that COULD do the trick.. i was looking at some sites here in sweden and all i found was a thing called "VGA to PS2/3".. and all it does is to take the yellow (video) cable and converts it into a VGA signal
There are adapters that go straight from the port on the back of the PS2 to VGA also, avoiding going through composite cables. Then you don't have to worry about bad de-interlacing.

hmm, ok, is there any chance you could find a link to that, because all the ones i see are like, £300...so do you think my one would be alright? or will it not be very clear. My monitor runs 1680 x 1050, and its the 22" hyundai widescreen. BUt on most of the games there is a 16:9 option to choose, so the widescreen bit should be alright

FOUND IT!!!

Now that sure will do the trick
ITs strange because when i asked on the ebuyer forum they were all like, OMG ITS GONNA BE WELL EXPENSIVE, and they were showing me like, £1000 box units lol

Ok thank you guys, i'll go for this £10 one

EDIT: just realised it only works for a few games, and not the one i want to play, Gran turismo 3 and 4
Composite video cables are called composite because they are composed of 3 seperate channels of imaging information. The green, red, and blue cables represent the green, red, and blue channels to make up the video signal. The cables you are refering to are simply RCA cables for stereo sound and video. The red and white are the left / right sound channels and the yellow is the video. A completely different connection than composite cables.

Edit:

Yes, what you linked there is what you want. Why would it only work for some games and not others? All you are doing is converting an output plug to a different input plug.

Edit 2: Ah, I see, the games themselves are not coded in VGA graphics....

Yeh , it's quite a shame really because i like to play with my wheel on my PS2, and i dont have a desk, so i have to have my dfp on my lap when i play, which really doesn't work, thats why i need a desk...Oh well, but if any of you guys find something please just write in this thread.
Thanks

You are talking about Component. Component consists of 3 components, namely 3 separated color channels. Red, Green and Blue.

Composite is called like that because it combines all video information into only one bi-polar cable, the yellow RCA (or Cinch) cable. Which in this case comes with 2 audio RCAs.

As for the PS2 to VGA cable solution, there's a PS2 to VGA cable, but that only works if you boot it in Linux. But there's an alternative, albeit somewhat cumbersome, it will work: http://www.gocybershop.ca/customer/home.php?cat=196
so the one i linked to will not work?

except that it isnt rgb

With a M-M VGA cable, and the PS2's composite cables, that should do the trick. If it doesn't, what else does your monitor support? S-Video? DVI (Which for all I know may have the same problems as VGA, never used it...)?

If your monitor supports s-video, both of these would do the trick

They are all PC to TV, i want TV to PC
Quote from harjun :They are all PC to TV, i want TV to PC

Aren't they the same thing!
Quote from garph :Aren't they the same thing!

no, because if you look it it, its a male adaptor, i want it female, so i can plug the ps2 into it...just think about it a bit more, i had some confusion with it aswell.
That's why I said to use a M-M VGA cable. Then you can plug the adaptor into the monitor

The last ones would work as-is, just plug it into your monitor (if it does support s-video), and then plug your PS2's composite cables into the other end. I see now the very last one has the composite cables the wrong way around (you could easily fix that with a knife and a bit of insulating tape though )

If the monitor does have s-video, the second last one would be perfect. Just plug it in to the monitor, and then plug the yellow composite cable into the other end
You should be extremely careful with what you buy. I tried more than one time to connect my ps2 to a pc monitor. And it was awful both times.

I bought two VGA boxes, and both didn't do the job. They had awful resolutions, and the image was not adjusted correctly, and there was no way to do it. I ended up using a TV monitor again (and threw the VGA boxes into the trash!).

Best is if you have a PC monitor which also has a normal video input. Otherwise, use a TV monitor.

Or ask around on some Playstation Forums maybe. But as i said, be careful with spending money on adapters or VGA boxes... they might not work properly with the PS2.
For 75p including postage, the one I mentioned is probably worth a go
Don't know about PS2, but using VGA on my xbox 360 works amazingly well with a cheap cable. I realize that the 360 has much higher res than the ps2, but just saying.
Well, 720p is the highest you can transmit through VGA, anyway. Although 720p is still about 2.6 times larger then 480p, but still not even close to 1080p.

rubbish i had a monitor that did 2304x1440 on vga and the triple head to go does 3*1680x1050 via vga
Yup, my current monitor goes up to 2560x1600. Highly unusable though, as it has a terrible frequency (~50hz) at that res, and it's only a 17"...
