Right after hours of turning back on bloody windoze services I managed to get windows messenger installed.
All I want is desktop notification of new mail ffs , and have no idea how WM works with MSN etc. so would someone with MSN kindly post their contact details as I need to see if this stoopid messenger works please...

MSN Messenger sucks. But so many (mostly british ) uses it, so I have to use Windows Messenger to be able to talk to them. WM does the job without all extra crap on my pc, that MSN messenger would install. If I needed to use more than one IM protocol, I'd remove WM and use Miranda or Gaim.

IRC is all you need. Start using it

All those background pics, conversation pics, emoticons, sounds(?), games etc.. Irrelevant features I'd never need.

I don't know if it wants to call home, or install spy / adware, but 15 megabytes install file seems horrifying big compared to WM's 7 megabytes. I've also read that MSN Messenger versions propably more security holes than WM.

dMSN is nice too, used it at school when it didn't let me install the regular msn. But now with the new live messenger they didn't update their security so everyone has that now. Almost everyone I know uses hotmail with live msn, I don't think many people know about anything else. I only know two people with trillian, and they're on this forum.
