The online racing simulator
For me, the first time I saw LFS was at a friends house when i was like 8 (thats a core memory haha). We wanted to play on his moms computer and he had the LFS Demo version installed. That is now more than 15 years ago haha... I begged my dad that i could also play LFS and finally i got the old 4 Players version from my Dad as a birthday gift.

Played ever since. And still love it.

What a lad!
I am novice in LFS, but I discovered the sim due to some Billy Cherokee's videos, even though he has little content of this game.
Its been that long since iv been on LFS, iv had to make a new account. But I first joined around 2009 - my best memories where getting my logitech G25 wheel and H shifter, and doing my cop training to become a cop on multiplayer! Oh the good old days. Iv recently upgraded my PC, so Its only right I go ahead and by myself another wheel, which will have to be the logitech G27 this time I think. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel online. See you all there! Smile
School was over and i was at the seaside at my cousins place (that was back in 2006). i was 13 at the time, and he told me that he has a racing game which looks cool but he doesnt know how to set up the controls. I messed around in the options and 5 minutes later we were set up, we played that game for hooooours crashing the XRG and later playing on Fat Oil Drifting Grounds server. To think of it, i am playing this game for 20 years almost, it blows my mind.. might not be active for a while since i am still waiting for the new big update, but the memories and friends i gained and lost over that long period of time is something that you cannot replace AT ALL. It wasn't just a game for me, it was something that was with me through fun and sad times. I am 31 now and to think of it that this game was with me for over half of my life is mind blowing

Maybe in some 30 odd years we will be interviewed by the "new YouTubers" about how does it feel like to have been playing the same racing game through all your life, to be disappointed about other game studios implementation of physics, tires, mass, when LFS has done it right with just the Holy Trinity
had to search for when WoW was released (2004) to know if it was before LFS or not, I guess we are winning Big grin

We will all be superstars, just wait for 30 years to get the recognition LFS

Indeed. This game is progressing slowly but the quality of it is just something else, you can't replace that at all 😁
Earliest would be drag racing an XRT in demo with a keyboard Wink Life before Formula BMW

What a game. Still the most natural feeling compared to all the current stuff.
Are the TOFU guys still alive?
I came across it on BHM looking for new games to play obviously. I couldn't play it on my first emachines because of the physics being too much or my on-board couldn't handle, or both.

I ended up building a hodgepodge of a p4 1.7, 6200 and 1gb of assorted ram and running that allowed me to finally race and drive without problems.

I probably liked it because it felt similar to Viper Racing, but better graphics and way easier mulitplayer.
Got to test LFS and Rfactor on my brothers computer back in the day with the oldschool momo wheel
Being impressed with the driver's hand animation, especially as the in-game steering wheel turned a lot more than other games at the time.
The last time I recall playing was around Dec, 2009, S2 0.5Z28. My first memories of LFS were good, but I did not like the changes that occurred over time. Much of the issue with LFS was a small developer team. For example I owned a Caterham SV with a 250 hp Ford Duratec 2.3 liter engine from 2003 to 2006 (it was like driving a high powered go-kart), and due to it's light weight, it could run Hoosier's stickiest compounds good for about 1.5 g's in turns, and I was disappointed in the LX model and it's handling (LFS was not even close). I was also disappointed when LFS added exaggerated clutch and flat spot degradation, which was out of touch with reality. At the time, I switched to other sim-oriented and arcade style racing games, but eventually lost interest in any racing games.

The last racing game I bought was Shift 2 Unleashed (2011). I played the arcade racing game NFS World on and off, starting in 2010, stopped playing in 2012, then played it a bit after the announced shutdown from, April 2015 to July 2015. There was a 25 year anniversary event for NFS High Stakes (1999), and I played it for a couple of weeks and got to play with a few of the original players I knew.
Nilex . . .

Quote from Nilex :'Twas a sad day when they patched up that fence. Those red/white barriers too, both such crowd-pleasers.

I still dream about creating a follow up video, showing practical application of the jump during a live race. Those were the times!

Anyway, my first LFS memory ...

Just so you know, I decided to revive this thread because its your last post on the forums, after a 3 year hiatus (2017)...

@admins - send email to Nilex on befalf of LFS community asking him to come back
pls?
he's probably just waiting for the update . . .

As I further read this topic, this game feels increasingly like a digital heritage.
I still remember that day when I secretly dreamed of a racing game, but with more realism and so wandering around trying new names, I dreamed, until one day I accidentally watched a clip called Ototap, then something grabbed me so much that I wanted to find out more and more, from the clip itself you could see two cars entering the bend in slow motion, you could see the tires and suspension moving softly, from this clip I wanted more and more and so I started looking for the name of this game, not long after watching clips I understood the name, I also understood that this is not just a game but a simulator, when I understood the full name LFS Life for Speed, then I visited the site for the first time, I can not describe the joy I felt and reading the whole story about LFS that day and registered.
Each of us started from the demo and I myself had a lot of experiences from that, but one day I had the opportunity to buy the S3 license, the experience of looking at the full license is unique and I am sure that most of us have experienced something unique while studying each of the cars which are great in themselves, each of them has a soul for me personally.
At the beginning I was absorbed by Drift, but I remained a competitor at heart and to this day I mainly do racing laps, drift less often now at 39 years old and somehow I compete more than I drift, this does not mean that I do not like it anymore, it depends on the moment, now personally the memory of the first time for LFS attracts me like the delight of that moment when you start the simulator and just before you start you remember every time about that first time, at least it is like that for me.
here I will allow myself to congratulate and thank the developers for the work they put in and the cooperation they provide. Thank you.
LFS for me is not just a simulator, I have always said it is a way of life. Greetings sexydikei
