I did paste the code over the actual password by using ctrl+v, worked fine. So my guess maybe they clicked on the dots and made the old game password "unselected" and pasted the code in the middle of the used game password.
Not all players uses forums, or even knows how to navigate a forum. Heck, some may even not know LFS has a forum
Therefore they may not have heard about the game password change and just tried to enter their old game password. I just activated two of my accounts with the unlock code and that worked just fine.
First of all, thank you for your help and offer my best regards. It was an honor and a pleasure to have you respond and assist me. Thank you, I have now received my license. Thank you!
I think this is a good point. Scawen did try to make it visible by adding a fake event into the LFS calendar. What about sending out newsletter emails after such an important change? Or is that planned only after a new official patch?
Do you want less security of people's LFS accounts and a bigger probability of them being hijacked and stolen in case of another 3rd party site data leak?
Your post adds no value, at least add some reasoning to your claim.
That doesn't change. We still need to have the limits, otherwise there will be a username and unlock code somewhere on the internet that anyone can use to freely access LFS content.
I've checked and it does work. Some people have had this, when it apparently does not work, but does work when they try again. Please make sure there are 20 characters (blobs) in the GAME password field before you click "unlock".
Today I will improve LFS.exe:
- insist on the correct number of characters (to reduce copy and paste errors)
- provide an "EYE" button to show the unlock code
- update the translations
I prefer not to send a newsletter yet, I think it would be better when there is a patch and we've made sure there are no bugs in the system.
No, "grotesque" is describing my own situation, there is a misunderstanding here, because u see an implicit where there is none, I didnt mention the update at all.
Grotesque wasn't meant as an insult, but as something funny and ridiculous like in a Benny Hill show.
A regrettable misunderstanding that lead to high level of forum toxicity. I take alot of care to avoid implicits, but that wasnt enough obviously, sorry about that.
I hope it's clear now.
For any translators who would like to update the website translation, I've updated the translation system and started a new thread to let me know if you've done an update so I can make it go live. https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/112033
I'll send a notification email to all the translators after I've done the in-game translations.
I have 2 pc's, laptop and desktop pc. In both I had LFS unlocked and working before this change.
So now I tried to get it working again.
I just unlocked LFS in the laptop, it worked, then I tried to unlock with the same unlock in the desktop pc, it didn't work using the same code, so I created another code, unlocked desktop pc, but now the laptop is locked (I can't list online hosts)?
"Your unlock code does not match"
If I try with the other generated code it doesn't work either.
I confirm the game has been unlocked, and the editor is working for me without any issues.
I received an email with the code – I copied and pasted it into the game that unlocked it, then into the editor, and everything works fine.
I'm thinking there are two things that could be confusing.
1. When you launch the game, the message "S3 Licence: xxxx" may suggest the game is active.
2. When you paste the unlock code and press "Unlock," there is a confirmation message, but the "Unlock" button remains active, which may suggest something went wrong.
This has caught me off guard as well. The "Unlock" button must remain active for non-S3 users who may buy a higher license in the future and need to unlock it again. Once an S3 user unlocks their LFS, that but doesn't make much sense to me, but I may be missing something.
Perhaps the user could automatically get back to the entry screen after confirming the dialog "username and pass confirmed"?
What fastranker1 said is not correct! The unlock code is like a password, it's not a one-time usage unlock key. If you already have LFS unlocked, and you get a new code, that will remove your ability to use the original one online (until you enter the new code there).
You must get one unlock code and user it for both your instances of LFS. I know you said it didn't work on the second instance, but it probably would if you tried again.
A few people, including me, had an instance where it said "wrong unlock code" although we really believe we did the copy and paste correctly. It's a bit of a mystery at the moment. I can't be sure yet if there is some kind of bug, or if it's a human error. Anyway the solution is to try again, not to get a new unlock code. I will be releasing a patch that allows you to check the unlock code you've entered.
By the way everyone, the whole unlocking system is completely unchanged, not a single line of code changed. The unlock code just goes in the same slot as the old game password. So this is why it seems so unlikely there is a bug. Because if there is, the same bug has been there for 20 years and no-one noticed until now? Anyway, the new patch will have the ability to see if what you pasted is really what you copied, and we'll find out if there is a bug or figure out why so many of us have experienced that mysterious issue.
As I was accessing the desktop PC from remote desktop I tried using that pc directly, and then it worked, so most likely there is some issue in the copy/paste using the remote desktop, either LFS or Remote Desktop app, but anyway, both LFS instances are working now.
