UK Partial solar eclipse 8am 4th Jan
Just a heads up to everyone or at least everyone in the UK
There will be a partial solar eclipse tomorrow morning as the sun rises, even if its foggy there is still a chance to see a crescent sun, sunrise is about 8am and the moon will leave the disc of the sun at around 9am.
Those in the south and east of the UK should get a better view
As always be very very careful when observing or photographing the sun.
Here's a preview from "stellarium"

Crap - will be on the bus at that time >.<.
Will be stuck in the office, joy of joys.

+1 for the heads up, shall be in a big open field upon a hill with a cup of coffee and a sleeping bag
its still cloudy here in Kent, but set to clear after midnight and stay clear for the morning, if your out camping and up after midnight you might see some meteors as theres a shower on with a radiant near Bootes, with no moon tonight and up to 100 per hour look to the north, your bound to see some

Good luck

You know I wondered why when I woke up early, it was getting light, but then seemed to get darker again. Not looked outside yet but am leaving for work in 5 mins so will see what I can see on the way.
I hope someone saw something
Wall to wall cloud here with rain too I saw ....... nothing

never mind

Nice shots. Was totally overcast here so I saw squat.
Was sadly too clody here to. Enjoyed the meteors though

and to think, i went outside for this yesterday and it couldn't be seen
The Stargazing live programs (last 3 nights and all on Iplayer) are not too bad. Some stuff wasn't needed but was good to see astronomy on at a normal time
Quote from rich uk :SOme stuff wasn't needed but was good to see astrology on at a normal time

Astrology? Or Astronomy? Very different things!
Quote from Bob Smith :Astrology? Or Astronomy? Very different things!

astrology
nothing annoys and astonomer more than to refer to him as an astrologist or ask him about horoscopes
Oh dear Rich that is indeed the biggest of faux pas

Astronomy = scientific observing and working with facts in the cosmos.

Astrology = a large, steaming pile of excrement concocted for and by fools.

I have to agree that the stargazing live shows were great to see and hopefully the BBC will run another event later in the year. Maybe with some luck the weather will be better.

This has to be the best image of the eclipse for me, when you think of the forward planning involved.
