Quote from gezmoor :Yeah well, it's all well and good to have a loud rip snorting car when it's just you behind the wheel. The reality is everyone else around you has to put up with the aggravation. If you really think about it, it's actually rather selfish to have a loud vehicle for road use.

Also, just imagine all the extra land that would become available to house builders if they weren't restricted by noise pollution from roads and motorways which currently means they can't build in places where no one would want to live.

If it came down to the choice, I'd rather have more, (and therefore cheaper), housing than allowing noisy vehicles on the road. It's only because we're conditioned by engine noise that we expect it in our cars, (especially performance ones). Ultimately, people will adjust to quieter vehicles. Later generations will wonder how we ever put up with the noise.

Also, it's all well and good trawing the net for youtube clips of "sweet" sounding engines. The reality is 99% of us would loath to drive any of those cars in practice. I think most people dont have any real idea of just how loud they are. Having been in the presence of race prepped 125cc 2-strokes I can tell you in all honesty I wouldn't want to ride/drive any vehicle with a race prepped engine for more than 10 minutes. What's the point of having an engine so loud you are forced to wear ear plugs to save yourself from permanent hearing damage anyway?

maybe its just me but I don't live in a city or even a town for that matter, possibly in the UK noise is an issue when 1 million other ppl live within 1 sq km of each other nice sounding cars are a problem but here I can drive for 30 min (at speed limit) without seeing another car, or a house sometimes (depending on direction and speed), a good car with a nice tone effects only one person... the driver cars don't have to be loud, just don't put a fart can on a 1.3l escort.........
Here, my 99GT before it got wrecked. This was minutes after getting the exhaust installed. BBK headers, BBK offroad X-pipe, Magnaflow Magnapac catback. Not street legal, car at this point was quick, my other video it was all stock.

The attached clip is just a great example of raw sound from a car. It's from a Williams at Monza in 2001 or 2002 I believe. I can't remember exactly how it was labelled at the time I got it. Be careful with the volume...it's loud.

Different recording, fly-by, and a bit distorted.
Now that I own a Ford GT (Black with white stripes, identical to the one in this first video), I have first hand experience with it, and it's one of the most amazing sounding cars.

First video, this car identical to mine, except I'll have the wheels from the Geiger Ford GT installed in a few weeks.

Look how easily it overtakes other cars, soo sick.

Here's two videos of a Ford GT running the quarter mile..not what it's built for, but it still rocks.
Another Ford GT identical to mine, tearing up a SLR 722
