I use an old (but still great) 19" Illyama VMpro451 CRT flatscreen that can display 1280 @ 100hz.

Are there any modern LCD monitors that can acheive higher refresh rates than 75hz?

Quote from southamptonfc :2 things.

Normally lower tryre pressure means the rubber flexes more easily and so generates more heat.

However, IF higher tyre pressures give less grip, they will slide more and generate more heat.

So who knows??

My thoughts also. Iv seen such a wide range of pressures used in LFS by people and its probably the most important setting to adjust grip levels to your driving style and longevity of the tyre.

As a general rule I try to set them as high as possible whilst providing enough grip in crucial parts of the respective track. This way you can race more consistently. For Qualyfying I use the lowest setting possible until the drag of the tyre or the overheating scuppers your overall hotlap time.

I run on a Dell M90 laptop (outed to a seperate monitor) 4gb ram, 2.3 core 2 duo proc. with nvidia quadFX 3500 graphics. (cost £580 from ebay 4 months ago). Using Windows XP 64bit OS.

1280x1024, full AA, full graphics with LOD tweaked slightly and I get 150-250fps when driving alone and never less than 75 at back of a full grid

Since the first demo

Knew straight away the physics were something special and it has just got better and better.

Think the gfx engine and menus are overdue an overhaul but its probably the best value for money game ive ever come across

keep it up devs

Glad Im not alone! I was considering using Z3's technique like Schumi, changing wheel settings between corners but Im too lazy for that

Its an awesome feeling to hang the car out and get a good lap. Its very difficult to keep a consistent race pace tho but ultimately more rewarding.

I think the most unrealistic thing about the TC in LFS is it's on/off feel as it makes an on/off application of the gas mandatory at corner exit. The fast S before the bridge at BWGP is a prime example. With TC you HAVE to floor the throttle at the apex of the first corner to make the TC kick so you can anticipate it's effect on the cars behaviour. Without TC this section is a joy, the positive camber allows you to steer the car with the throttle and fine tune your line rather than the forced understeer "Alonso 05/06" technique I quite often use with TC. In real F1 (before the ban) Im sure there were loads more controls and mappings for the TC that eliminated all these issues such as feeding the TC in and out and assigning different TC levels to each corner.

At risk of there being absolutely no BF1 servers at all (compared to now), is their a server option for disallowing TC

And Pat, can we have longer races on the BF1 servers

Just tried some laps with Bf1 without TC to see how much time it would cost and to my surprise I found alot of the sections at BW much easier (last 4 corners). 1st hairpin and chicane were much more difficult. On the whole though it is alot more rewarding and fun! I managed to get within 3 tenths of my PB.

More people should try it!

Works great on my new laptop w Quadro FX3500, thanks for the heads up!

Makes it feel so much more real as the cars dive into the light then back into the shadows.

Team Fortress 2 has just come out - i got it at christmas. The premise of the game is almost identical but with all new maps and new cartoon style characters.

Dunno if my systems not up to it but i dont find it anywhere near as playable as the original.

No matter how unreliable, slow and downright annoying steam is for the user its absolute GOLD DUST for the developers. It gives them a direct link to their target market to bombard people with advertising and "offers". Its a shareholder's wet dream.
Banned from Redline for winning

Evening all

Iv been racing LFS since the first demo came out and just witnessed probably the most childish thing Iv ever seen in online racing at Team Redlines F08 BWGP server. For anyone whos raced against me online im sure youll agree im a fair racer.

No I wasnt banned for wrecking, flaming or any other flagrant rule breaking - I won.

9 lap race pitstop required.

Redline team member evo was fastest guy on the track but changed his tyres at the pitstops. I kept my R2s on only taking a touch of fuel and saved myself 8 seconds which surprise surprise resulted in me winning.

When I pointed evo needs to back off and save his tyres and not change them as its faster- he banned me.

When someone cant accept bleeding obvious helpful advice and resorts in banning people its about time to re-assess how seriously you take yourself.

Id like to think someone from redline could un-ban me and I also think im due an apology from EVO.

I have this problem and it seems to be between 6.30pm and 10.30pm everyday. Pissing me off! In the in game mplayer screen I always get "no reply from master server" and when I use join2lfs it says "waiting for track info- did not receive track info".

My ISP is Toucan.

I tried the cmd thing and the last three pings that work end in bluyonder.co.uk. These were pings 8, 9 and 10 then 11-30 all timed out. Does this indicate it's ok?

Any other things I can try? Turning firewalls on/off makes no difference.

I tried ringing them and he did some kind of reset in the command prompt but that did nothing. He then said ring back when your not having the problem :/

This thread has been great and has highlighted the only doubts i have about the DFP force feedback in LFS- not been able to return to center quick enough. In real life regardless of car config, there would rarely be much resistance in these situations slicks or not. Go look at drivers in most racing cars- they saw at the wheel at rate that in certain situations (ie returning to centre after a drift) the DFP simply wont allow (well without waking the neighbours and lifting two legs of the table off the floor). Its as if the DFP is overdamped in these situations.

Its a shame because the feeling of being on the edge of adhesion is great in nearly all situations and allows a realistic seat of the pants style of driving.

Iv found out alone v.low or 0 centering spring is best so we must be thinking along the same lines.

What are the implications of power steering to FF and LFS? Most racing cars (including F1 cars) have power steering so a direct connection to the forces at the wheel could be argued not to be realistic anyway. I may be wrong but I think the MRT and the LX cars are the only ones that wouldnt have PS in real life.

I think alonso uses TC to do his tyre warming technique and was one of the first things i tried to replicate in the BF1!

I could do it (ie keep the rear wheels sliding and sawing at the wheel) but no where near as quickly as Alonso does it. And usually crashed after a couple of attempts.

Alonso is da man

ps id attach my attempts but IE wont let me open links from inside a web page in a new window (manage attachments doesnt work)

Its using 63392, havnt tried any others. Ill give the other one a go.

Yeah net works fine however (dont know if this is relevant) to get the wireless adapter (hence net) to connect to the router i have to plug the usb cable in each time i boot up ie it doesnt start up automatically. Quite annoying.
Online play on wireless LAN

Just setup a wireless LAN with a linksys g router and usb wireless g adapter and cant join LFS online play. Im on the remote pc connecting through the wireless usb adapter that is on a new usb 2.0 hub.

When i try to connect LFS says:

"Unable to connect to master server

1 if you are protected by a firewall it may have blocked the connection
2 may be temp impossible to connect to master server from your isp
3 master server may not be running"

Im connected at 54mbps with an 86% signal. Excellent according to PC.

I dont have a software firewall on this computer

Im guessing the servers are all up ok?

Could the router firewall cause this problem? It didnt mention a firewall when i set it up

Any recommendations appreciated.

PS its taken me so long to set the wireless up. Gonna start getting mad if i cant play LFS!
