I have driven the old Le Mans representation on GPL. Believe me - super massive long straights do not hold their appeal for very long.

I quite enjoy the strategy and the analysis with the overlaid "chalkboard" showing who was doing what, and why.

The sedate pace of play makes it an ideal sport to watch whilst working.

Complete waste of time trying to draw any meaningful conclusions from today, or probably the whole week.

Except, perhaps, are Lotus the new Jordan? Eddie used to run his cars underweight for dazzling preseason sponsor friendly test times.

Quote from BlueFlame :Just look at anything performance wise, supercars even, they are generally clean aerodynamically. The cleaner the surface the more aerodynamically efficient it will be, it's not a myth.

So why do dimpled golf balls fly further than completely smooth ones?

Yeah because Renault's innovations were massively successful last year weren't they?

Back to work for McLaren - you would not bet against Newey over a significant area of design.

One could argue that they have made very little developmental progress even with the most experienced driver in the history of F1.

He's not a bad driver. Look at how he stepped into Heidfeld's car at Spa - midseason with no testing - got into Q3.

He's never had a full season, nor preaseason testing (HRT did their first preseason test in Bahrain GP 2010 P2 if memory serves - and the car fell apart). Give him a full winter, all the preseason and then 2012 season and then see how he is.

If he does around about what you would expect of Rubens and he also brings in sponsorship dollars and publicity then it's a good move.

That's pretty unlucky. I hope F1 isn't slipping away from him.

Found this on Crash:

http://www.crash.net/f1/news/1 ... 1/ten_top_murrayisms.html

Why isn't he Sir Murray Walker?

My own favourite from Jerez in, I think, 1985. Mansell was leading from Senna in the JPS Lotus with Prost stalking in the McLaren and Murray demonstrated his perfect timing:

"I suspect that Nigel Mansell will be grimly enjoying this, because this time he's leading; he has the whip hand... AND SENNA IS THROUGH! SENNA IS THROUGH! AND PROST IS THROUGH! In the blink of eye, Mansell's gone from first to third, Senna leads and can Prost catch him?"

Quote from tristancliffe :That's great. But please don't link Hamilton's style with Senna. Senna was, as well as a bloody fast driver, also a thinker. Hamilton is just fast, regardless of where that leaves him. Vettel is much more the 'new' Senna than Hamilton will ever be. Hamilton is the new Piquet if anything, only without the sex appeal.

Disagree. Hamilton drives much more like Rosberg, who spent a lot of the early 80s caning his car until the brakes fell apart. Piquet was very different proposition. If he was on it (ie Hockenheim 86) then he was unstoppable, but was generally a much more measured and cunning driver than Hamilton. You're probably just focusing a bit too much on the Salazar incident.

Quote from BlueFlame :No u.

This isn't a dictatorship. It's hub where people can speak their mind so long as they aren't insulting others. So go back under your rock you self-righteous amoeba. You actually think someone will shut up because YOU told them to? You think you have a RIGHT to tell someone to shut up?

well you do not.

Not sure if you meant it to be, but that's really funny.

Wouldn't mind the occasional teaser pic of the odd interior or random corner of a new track. Would certainly settle a few nerves on this forum.

You scored 47/101 (46.53%).

F1 only: 12/22 (54.55%).

Non-F1: 35/79 (44.30%).

That's not too bad. Most fans did as well as you...

Quote from kart-36 :If I was in scawens shoes I wouldn't give you shit all. day in day out complaining even on Christmas. Bunch of ungrateful people saying what he should do and complaining that you don't get enough, get out more and don't worry so much about it.

Scawen is remarkably patient with the community, from what I have seen of his posts. Most of us are returning the favour.

Might be DTM or endurance for Buemi, but I can see JA continuing with HRT now it is the Spanish national team.

Quote from tristancliffe :Attract and keep the ex-GPL crowd and you're onto a winner!!! A large percentage of the younger sim generation are happy with shoddy simulators like GTR/rFactor/GT5/Forza etc where eye-candy and exhaust popping has priority over physics. So developers either have to dumb-down or attract the GPL people.

We're not ex-GPL people - we are GPL people! There is still an active community and plenty of leagues. Crucially, there is also somehow a very well organised mod system. With no formal basis, there are "official" 65, 66 and 69 mods, a GT mod and all sorts.

Would it burn quickly enough though to rev at 10,000rpm?

Cylinders would end up caramelised quite quickly too.

I had my 330d remapped and the gains were significant. I could match a remapped 330i (not much gain from that as it is normally aspirated); and we were racing - down to the UK Kart Meet

Had a good chat with the guy that did it, both before and during. He said there were a couple of reasons why the map is not ultimately powerful out of the box:

a) Differentiation. The 325d, 330d and 335d have the same basic engine but with some different parts. Despite this, manufacturers know what they want the engine to produce for each flavour and the map helps them to do that

b) Lowest common denominator. All 330ds are the same spec across Europe, so they have to work safely across different countries with varying qualities of fuel. Also, not everyone looks after their cars properly (servicing, warm up, cool down etc) so some margin is built in for that. For example, not everyone will let their turbo diesels idle for a short while before switching off, thus allowing the turbo to cool a little.

As for the original post; it could work, provided that on the way back to the engine the exhaust gases ran through a refrigerated greenhouse, but power to weight might be compromised.

Quote from Intrepid :With all due respect anyone not buying Sky F1 purely on ethical grounds is suffering from a severe case of hypocrisy.

Anyone that supports F1 is directly contributing to a sport which has some of the most dodgy money circulating around it. Just look at who actually owns some of the teams & who actually funds some of the teams etc... Let's cut the bullshit and get real.

Also, any of these people who won't give money to Murdoch on "moral" grounds are hypocrites if they drink Coca Cola, or wear trainers, or buy goods and services from any number of multinational corporations that are cash rich, but morally bankrupt.

It will no doubt find it's way onto the Sky internet player, which is available to subscribers and works quite well as the quality is scaleable.
