Well done to Brad and Pol for their win in the Suzuka 8 Hours. Casey's crash is the most important thing for the casual fan, but the race is huge for the Japanese manufacturers and that will not harm their contract chances one bit.

Very impressed with Brad, serving Pol's penalty then not panicking and working back through. That last mini-stint must have been nerve wracking.

Don't like the KY3 layout. GP Long is a beautiful, fast, flowing track that suits the FO8 but the layout is totally out of character.

It's a bit like taking Spoon out of Suzuka and replacing it with a section from Long Beach.

Never mind, the rest of the track is still mega Smile

Quote from Cornys :

I agree with what you said; downforce should be reduced. However,I liked the pack racing to a degree. If the pack could be thinned out I would greatly enjoy the racing, and I would feel comfortable with the safety. Let's make it harder to keep up with the pack, but let's not get rid of it. Let's make them lift more in the corners and make cornering matter a little more.

Yes. I like pack racing aswell, but Vegas is still not that long ago and the racing was somewhat familiar at Fontana.

That was an interesting point about NASCAR and the tracks, by the way. Am I right in thinking however that SAFER barrier was an Indycar initiative? I may just think that because I don't really follow NASCAR.

Multiple grooves makes three and four wide racing - that is where the issues happen. Ask Sato and Power if they thought three wide was safe - they had nowhere to go. Drivers will fill the available space. If there is space for three or four cars then it is filled, reducing the speed at the front and making a bigger draft for those that follow; aka pack racing.

I think you're confusing grooves and track width. A two groove raceway could be as wide as Fontana so there is plenty of tarmac, just not "raceable" tarmac.

It's not simply the track that dictates the grooves; it's also the cars, principally though the amount of downforce.

Pack racing is a concern at those speeds, Rappa makes a good point about the spotters. If they were that quick but only had one or two grooves to run in then that's much easier.

A smidgen less downforce, sufficient to make the drivers a factor in lap time would help reduce the chances of pack running.

Also, can anyone explain why there is still grass on speedways and superspeedways?

So, refuelling back for 2017. More power, more noise and different aero regs. Lighter cars too - that'll be nice and cheap.

Not a lot of detail, but plenty to opine about. Also, free choice of compounds - any two from the four.

Falklands - Top Gear ran a car around Argentina with a licence plate supposedly referencing the 1982 Falklands War. The locals didn't like it.

I know, and maybe I'm being too nice, but he already had one car on the inside to keep an eye on whilst going around a left that runs into a right. I guess he didn't check his mirror, or Pagenaud was in the blind spot when he did.

Just too many plates to spin. Probation would have done, in my opinion.

Come on Bradley - same again please in Argentina.

I wonder if you can change numbers mid season? Would be funny if one of the Brits raced as 82 this weekend.

Hunter-Reay has picked up a 3 point penalty for the crash. I think that was a little harsh given the conditions and it was Pagenaud who chose to make it three wide.

Not saying RHR was not at fault, but it was a bit more of a racing incident in my view. Someone usually has to pay when there's so much carbon fibre in the bin though.

Quote from three_jump :Might take the drivers one or two races to adjust to the "new" racing. Going to tracks that are a bit wider might also help... Let's wait and see what it looks like when they go to a permanent track.

We get 80% yellows!

Conditions were a little tricky though.

Stoner was considered for the Pedrosa bike at Austin, but listening to Suppo he was rejected.

In favour of Aoyama. Wow.

Nothing useful to say about this yet, except this is an excellent innovation. A little momentum building up around here, which is welcome!

My Focus is still going strong nearly 6 years after I bought it Smile I love it, I have a feeling I will actually be in floods of real tears they day I have to scrap it.

Just got rid of my baby. It wasn't my first car, but it was the best I've ever had, or ever will. So I know how you'd feel.

Corolla is a good shout. I went with a mate who picked up a 1.6 for 700 quid. Nice car, apart from the very faded red paint. Insurance for him (he's 23) went up 60 quid a year compared to his Clio.

Forgotten how much fun it was making a setup for a new track.

International is terrific in the FO8. All the combos have a Barber Motorsports Parky feel to me, with a dash of the new loop at The Glen (Chute, Toe, Boot and so on)
