Quote from Forbin :Step 1: Open trash can.
Step 2: Insert laptop in trash can.
Step 3: Go to Apple store.
Step 4: Purchase computer for idi... I mean a Mac.

Im just using my laptop since I'm at my moms for a week. I have a PC at home that runs whatever I throw at it. I barely use my laptop.

Quote from MadCatX :Those temp readings suggest that either both CPU and GPU fans are dead or that the vents are really clogged up with dust.
Important question, can you hear the fans spinning? If not, can it be that the laptop is switched to some powersaving mode that prefers slowing the CPU down to spooling the fans up?

OT: What's so wrong with Macs? For the extra money you get a pretty good piece of hardware plus the ability to run MacOS X. I'm not saying they're worth the money, but they're certainly not shit...

The fans are on and they sound like jet engines. Im going to take off the cover and check it out later.

Quote from imthebestracerthereis :Not sure what the equivalent to Activity Monitor is for Windows (Task Manager?), but I found a corrupted file for a printer on mine was making the CPU run full blast. Deleted that file, and it was smooth sailing. Check for failing software.

Will check when I get home. Thanks.

Quote from boothy :Probably because there's dust and shit in it, or some dodgy graphic settings. I only ever get >100 GPU if playing games, and high core temps if its on epic cpu / very high room temp.

Laptops clean and its idle. Its a 4year old laptop so I dont care when it dies, it dies. I have my PC at home.
Laptops always hot!

Quote from dadge :i have the 900 mk1. you'd have to check to see what fan connectors are in the 900-2V3. but as said above, you can get fan controllers.

They are connected by the PSU. If you look at the pictures (2nd row, middle picture) You can see that the Fan has a psu connection Getting the case this week.

Quote from dadge :they connect to the psu (although the new 900 has mobo connectors), each fan comes with a 3 way speed switch (low-med-high). i keep my front 2 fans on low, my rear fan on med and the top "bad boy" on low. i have never had a heat issue. even with my GTX470 in there and they are meant to run as hot as the sun under load.

Yay! Then I'll probably be getting that.

What they have at my store is the Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Mid-Tower Case. Is that what you have?

Quote from dadge :i think the way to go in terms of pc cases is either the antec 900 or a good HAF. something with plenty of room and lots of big fans. i own an antec 900 and the stock 200mm "big boy" fan at the top is perfect for flushing out any unwanted hot air. then the 3 stock 140mm fans help force the cool air from front to rear.

Since you have the case, do the fans connect to the mobo or the psu? The mobo that i got only has 1 input for the fan. :/ lucky everything already has a fan on it so nothing overheats. And I was already interested in that case when I saw it in stores.

Quote from Sueycide_FD :I have pretty much the exact same setup and i'm sure you can up it to 1080p since i have nearly the same setup.

I'm playing on 1080p Samsung 1080p 27in TV with DVI imput.

I actually changed some stuff since I brought all the stuff in store.

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250gb (for now)
MB: GIGABYTE GA-MA78LMT-S2 AM3
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.8ghz
RAM: 4gb 1333 noname (lol)
GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5770 1GB

and the case is absolutely horrid. 1st upgrade that I am getting is a new case.

Quote from burn4u :M$ is rather common but I always liked Microsux.

To the OP, don't see a hd in that list, and what do those thermaltakes put out on the 12volt rail in the way of amps?

I had a 250gb HDD already and I have no idea.

I OC'd the CPU to 3.8ghz on the stock fans and the temps are fine. Getting 250fps+ on lfs. Renders a CoD 720p gameplay in an hour. Everything is good

Quote from anbiddulph :so you are going for almost the same system as E.Reiljans posted, apart from going for 4 cores instead of 6?

Its $50 cheaper. :/

Quote from E.Reiljans :1. XMS memory will not go over 1333 MHz on AMD systems. Take one I suggested instead :P
2. As you saved on CPU, you indeed should take two of those HDDs and RAID-0 them.

Otherwise it's fine.

Will do. Thanks for the help!

Quote from amp88 :You said you were getting a PSU from a friend but both the systems above include PSUs. The question of 32 vs 64 bit was in relation to the amount of memory you can use (32 bit system you'll be able to use <4GB as main memory, 64 bit you can use a lot more).

I agree on drive selection but I think the OP would still benefit from a RAID0 setup.

Ill probably be buying the PSUs with everything but get the 64bit OS from my friend instead.

The guy who posted the other builds said your mobo was "shit" and that I should stick with his. I'll probably take his mobo since its an ASUS one and just put that into your build.

Quote from amp88 :Do you have an OS to install? Also, if it's going to be mainly used for video editing you might be better off dropping to 4GB of RAM and sticking another drive in there on onboard RAID0.

I have a 1.5tb external that I use to keep all my videos. And the case is mid ATX. Is that a problem?

Got my case! Now I need the parts.

I finally got my computer case so now I can start building a decent rig for editing videos. All I'm really gonna use it for is to run Vegas and AE. Maybe play some lfs and cod4 pc. I have a budget of $500 so obviously it's not going to be top of the line but something decent, and the computer case was free if anyone can make me a list from newegg I'll be ever so greatful

Thanks.

Btw, I'm looking for the obvious stuff. Power Supply, motherboard, processor, graphics card, ram, HDD ect, ect
