Sounds reasonable to me, although I'd think you'd want to have something similar to the tracker that the MoE uses, or you'd have to spend a while going over the race replay to check and add-up laps, etc... for anyone who did use Shift-P.

Congrats Bob,

Quote from Bob Smith :I'm trying to spread them around the country a bit so at some point the distance has been reasonable for everyone (well, except the Welsh and Scottish, but who'd live there? ).

Heh!!! Watch it :P If Scotland and Wales are such bad places to live, just why did the English spend so much time and resources trying to conquer us???

It's basically a premium version of Vista Business, only for MS Software Assurance customers.
In other words, if it's not on a company computer, you shouldn't have it......
Other than that, if Vista Business works with LFS, which I think it does, the Enterprise version should as well.

Yeah, but the Raptor's are really enterprise class drives, rebadged and aimed at the hard-core gamers who're willing to shell out extra money for fractional improvements in speed.
Seagate drives are usually pretty solid, the ones that are interesting me at the moment though are the Western Digital Caviar drives. The specs and reviews for the 500Gb versions look pretty good at the moment.

The ATA 330MB/sec means the board is a SATA II motherboard, although as Jakg says, that's backward compatible with SATA so any SATA drive will work ok on it. There's not much to choose between SATA and SATA II drives pricewise at the moment, and the performance usually isn't much difference, so given the choice, pick the drive which has the bigger cache size. ie 16Mb rather than 8Mb.

The UltraDMA133 is your IDE connection, so it's got a single IDE connector on the motherboard.

First of all, thanks for hosting the race Franky
Thought I'd do a quick race report from my point of view
Qualifying went well, gAg took pole with a 1:22:13, and I managed 11th of the 14 qualifiers with a 1:23:27, which is quite a bit better than my usual habbit of being near 2-3 seconds off the pace.
We had a coupld of late arrivals, so Freestyle and Widowmaker joined on to the end of the grid to make it 16 starters.
I didn't have the best of starts, ran a little wide into T1 and The End took the gap and I was down into 12th. The first hairpin at the bottom of the hill saw a bump near the front though, and I wa lucky enough to find a gap and pick up a couple of places to see me up to 10th.
Into lap 2 the hairpin again saw some action ahead of me, and once again I found a gap and I was up to 8th. The End managed to get a run on me later though and I was back down to 9th.
T1 on lap 3 saw B-RAD get the inside line and I was back down to 10th again, once again though the hairpin saw me pick up a place.
Lap 4 saw me reverse the move on B-RAD into T1 and I was up to 8th. Franky made a mistake coming out of the hairpin and I was up to 7th.
Things were beginning to settle down now, with everyone seeming to find their feet, I settled in behind The End and on Lap 8 he slid wide coming down to the hairpin, hit the wall, and I was able to accelerate past on the exit, I was now up to 6th.
Nothing much happened for the next few laps, until Dadge passed me on Lap 11, on Lap 13 Dadge and Sosna had a coming together which allowed me to catch up and pass Sosna which moved me up to 5th.
Once again it was some more solitary laps for now, Dadge was pulling away in front and I was pretty much maintaining the gap to 6th.
My Pit-stop was planned for Lap 30, on Lap 26 I had a 13 1/2 sec lead to B-RAD behind me, by Lap 29 that was down to 10 1/2.
I came in to the pit at the end of Lap 30 for a 26 sec stop. B-RAD pitted at the end of Lap 34 for 17 secs, the gap between us at the end of sector 1 was 0:64 secs with B-RAD in the lead, but I passed him coming out of the hairpin to move back into 4th.
B-RAD doesn't settle for this though and he's right behind me, with the gap fluctuating between .5 and 1 sec untill he gets a run and passes me into T1 on lap 43.
After that he starts to pull away slightly and by the end of Lap 46 the gap is 1.8 secs. He makes a slight mistake on Lap 47 though and it's back down to less than 1 sec.
This see's my best section of the race as I put together 7 laps in a row under 1:24, with my best lap of the race on Lap 50.
B-RAD keeps it all together and I can never quite get close enough to make an attempt at a pass.
On Lap 57 I make a mistake and damage the front right suspension slightly, just enough to make turning left akward, so it was time to ease up a little and take it to the finish line.
All in all, a great race, although maybe I need to rethink my pit stops, those extra 9 secs were pretty expensive

Reaching back a bit now, but if I remember correctly, it's not bandwidth that's the issue, it's that as people's in/outboxes get full it starts to slow the whole forum down due to the load on the server increasing. At least it did on older versions of vBB, maybe they've done something about it by this time, but maybe not.

Check the spec of the motherboard again, the FSB is 1333, but the RAM standard is 800.
Without using whatever overclocking options the board has, any RAM you put in it will only run up to 800, so getting faster RAM only makes sense if you plan on overclocking the system.

DreamScene is essentially a video wallpaper.
Go to your display settings, background, and in the drop down list of wallpapers locations, you'll find DreamScene listed.
If you've downloaded the various updates available you should have at least 5 of them available. There are more available if you hunt around, but I've not bothered doing that as yet.

As above, it's the noise of your monitor starting to fail.
It may take a while, but eventually it'll give a pop and stop working, or as in the case of my TV a few years back, give a loud bang, a bright flash and stop working while leaving a burn mark on the screen.
I'd start thinking about putting the money together for a new monitor. My guess is you'll get annoyed enough about the whining to go out and buy one before it actually goes pop though
I did with my last monitor, it's still up in my loft as a spare monitor for testing/setting up system's with when I don't need to be running them for very long.

If you have a router and it has an option for 'ping blocking' (most do), then enable it.
A lot of attacks are preceded by the attackers sending out a ping to a range of addresses and they then target the ones they get a response from. When I enabled ping blocking on my router a few years back, the number of hits on the firewall dropped from 1 every 10-15 mins, to 1 a month at most.

Quote from JTbo :

Edit: After restart when I spend few moments killing stuff Acer put there and killing stuff that Brother put there (printer) and spending little more time killing what VMWare and Ati catalyst drivers put there, it starts to run ok, then I kill sidebar and computer feels lot more responsive already. But with default install it is that shitty.

Try going into 'msconfig' and unticking the boxes for the stuff you don't want running from startup. Should cut the time to boot up, and save you having to manually kill them all each time.
I pretty much remove everything except for the Firewall/Anti-virus apps.
If you're feeling adventurous, you could also take a look at the windows processes, and see which ones you think don't actually need to be running from boot, and switch them from 'automatic' to 'manual', be a little conservative if you do that though, unless you know what the processes are actually doing.

Quote from h3adbang3r :One question, I got hooked up with a free copy of Home Premium from HP, (Took 6 MONTHS for it to arrive in the mail), My laptop came with a sticker that says "Vista Compatible." Should I bother with installing it?

If you've got 2Gb of RAM, then maybe....

Is it an upgrade version, or a full install version?
Cause if it's an upgrade version, and you upgrade your XP, you won't be able to go back to XP once you activate Vista.
Best bet, would be to do a clean install of Vista onto a seperate harddrive, that way if you don't like it, or it doesn't run well enough for you, then you can ditch it without losing your XP install.
Keep in mind that a lot of 'Vista Compatible' systems are at the minimum level of hardware to run Vista, and may not always have Vista drivers available for all the hardware on them.
Also check that all your other software can run on Vista before you even think about upgrading.
There's a fair amount of software out there which won't run on Vista, or for which you have to buy a new Vista capable version, cause the older XP version won't run on Vista.

The Firewall in Vista is better than the firwall in XP, but not by much, and you have to manually enable the outbound protection part of it. Windows Defender is anti-malware, not anti-virus, so you'd probably be better off getting Kaspersky.

Well I've got Vista Ultimate 64bit installed in a dual-boot with XP. And I've not actually used Xp for over a month now.
Vista boots up in about 1 min.
I did have some fairly major problems getting it to run stable initially, but once the motherboard manufacturer brought out a BIOS update, all those problems went away.
Most of the problems people are having with Vista are driver related, once the manufacturers get their act together and sort out the drivers, it'll be a decent OS. Pretty much the same as when XP first came out, with the difference that fewer of the XP driver's work with Vista than the 2000 drivers worked with XP.

You really do need 2Gb of RAM though before Vista starts running at anything like properly usable speeds.

Jakg - don't you have SLI'd 8800's? I'm not sure SLI is supported properly by the nVidia drivers within Vista as yet. Haven't looked into it recently since I've only got a single 8600 myself, but I'm sure I read recently that that ws the case.

JTbo - as Al says - I'd think about getting that system looked at, 10 mins to boot up suggest's somthing is wrong, either hardware, or software. Maybe as simple as the install not being quite right, or too many programs trying to start at boot, but no system should take more than a couple of mins to start up.

Hmmm, Div 9 for me now, just over a second off the pace in the first race there, and the same again in quali for the next race. So finishing towards the back of the field
Should have my chassis developed to the point of using my own next season, although it'll still need some more work done on it. However, improvements on that are going through every 3 races appprox.
Engine improvments are every 8 races at the moment. Current project takes it to 100%, 100%, 100%, 56%. That should come down a bit though, as I'm currently ploughing money into getting my Design and Tech departments up to level 5. Still going to need to get an engine in for next season though, as mine's not going to be quick enough / reliable enough as yet.
Next on the list for money is the Chassis and Engine departments to Level 5, then it's finish the Research and Engine facilities, which are both at Level 3 just now, then the Test Track.
Commercial department is currently almost at Level 4, with enough money in the pot to take it up to Level 5.

Well it sounds like there's some sort of problem with either the DVI output on the card, the DVI cable, or the DVI input on the monitor.
Try checking them each out if you can.
If it's the DVI output on the card then you could get the card replaced.

Still working on getting my Research & Engine Facilities up to level 5, and only just put in my first level of Test Track a couple of races ago
Going to finish the Research and Engine facilities first before looking to move up the Test Track levels. The prices for them are steep!!!
