It's readable by ANPR (so not likely to get pulled over all the time), but it's still not reflective so not legal (if it's a metal pressed plate).

You can have 3D plates though (I think... mine are "normal" UK plates, but the text is also raised).

What a helpful solution...
USB Splitter / Switch?

Looking for a USB splitter / switch. Would like to share on device with 2 PC's, or to have a switch to go from PC 1 / 2. IF theres a switch, it needs to be easy to mount / hide and black!

Suggestions?

Long story...

iPhone plugs into my car stereo via USB, however it charges really slowly (1% per hour when using TomTom...). Plus, when the stereo is in standby, no audio comes through the phones speaker, so I can't have audible directions unless I'm listening to music.

What I would really like is a way to charge my phone properly (i.e. using my 1A USB chargers), and letting it use the phones speaker when I want, and otherwise using the car stereo for music.

I thought the easiest way to do this would be to use a switch (i.e. to flick a switch and it swaps source), but I can't seem to fine one that wont look shit mounted in a car.

A splitter might solve my power problems, but it wont solve the audio out issues... but it's better than nothing.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Really? Your typical suburban type maybe, but personally I don't know anyone who gives a shit about what car they're driving so long as it's cheap.

Then again I don't know anybody with a giant TV either. I don't think I want to know anybody with a giant TV or a clean car. Suggests they've not found anything to do with their lives.

Just because you chose to socialise with people who aren't braindead idiots doesn't mean they don't exist.

Quote from B1gch0pper :Personally I would say the biggest factor is down to UK motor insurance costs which are staggeringly high.
If you want to buy a second hand Ford Fiesta or Fiat Punto or equivalent the cars cost is VERY expensive because they are cheap(er) to insure and run (petrol etc). Anything with any power or bigger engine size or even the slightest bit sporty the insurance costs are ramped up to £1000's instead of £100's (and with petrol @ £1.35 per litre) these cars are generally cheap(er) than you would think...

...only for young people.

Someone 40+ can have pretty much any car on the roads insured for sub-£600.

And some pictures...

Me... one smashed mirror, and a very scratched cover... Although the cover came of and the mirror came out, it's all clipped back together

Him... no mirror!

Assembly (the expensive bit, £330 from a dealer IF it was still even made!) is fine, luckily. Should be less than £100 to fix, which he is covering...

Everyone in the UK has an obsession with having a new car on their drive, to "keep up with the joneses".

UK plates also have the year written on them, which means people get rid of their cars a lot sooner than in other countries.

Importing is also "easy" compared to other Euro countries.

Lot of Japanese sheds in the UK tho, with histories of poor maintenance...

Lost my wing mirror today...

Another driver drifted across the road coming round a corner, and broke mine.

I think he tried to drive off but gave up after 1/4 mile.

Luckily after he stopped he was alright and is going to pay for a new one...

Quote from flymike91 :It is ridiculous to me that the US funds 22% of the UN's budget while Germany and the UK only fund 8% and 7% respectively

The UK spends 30% of the amount of the US, but only has 20% of the population... (same situation for Germany 36% / 26%)

Sounds fair to me... in fact if anything the US isn't pulling it's weight.

Or apparently, vice versa (didn't know they did that either!)

Quote from Matrixi :Doesn't G19 have an external power adapter?

Seeing as USB is 500ma @ 5v, the maximum load would be 2.5w... which is nothing at all (so even if the G19 took all it's power from USB - it's still inconsequential)

EDIT - Too slow with the maths it seems.

Happend a couple of weeks ago, dumb cow smashed me at a roundabout, didn't admit fault at the time but her insurance has paid out and it hasn't affected me.

Car is a write off, getting a new one at the weekend.

Quote from BlakjeKaas :That's rather expensive, I bought a 22inch Samsung widescreen unit for that price 3-4 years ago. (2ms, 3000:1 blackness ratio thingy, 1680*1050)

I assume you could get a screen with the same specs for a much better price! (140-160?)

Was it IPS? I'm guessing not...

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Why are harnesses bad in road cars Jack? I've seen the aftermath of a few crashes in road cars (albeit fast ones) where a harness has saved the drivers life. Not that i'd put one in my current car but it's down to personal preference and opinion.

If a harness is done up tight enough - you will have trouble moving around in the car to see things.

If you can move around - it's not done up tight enough (and a normal 3-point belt is just as good).

Don't even get me started on roll cages...

Quote from BlueFlame :Says you, you'd put a 5point belt in your MG if you had the chance. Oh and a rollcage.

Oh **** off.

Harness in a TRACK car = good

Harness in a ROAD car = not good (if done up tight enough, which it won't be...)

Fitting for a tyre - £10-£15 at a garage

You can get a Toyo T1R for £60, which is probably what I'd do - although I'd try to replace the pair rather than one.
