There are other games around that allow you to do these sorts of things. LFS has a small dev team and excels in the driving physics area. I would rather they didn't waste time trying to incorporate bikes, trucks, SUVs, people carriers, three-wheelers, shopping trollies and other assorted juvenile garbage where the physics engine would be utterly wasted.
I think I catch your drift (so to speak! - been doing a lot of that today on the XRT, Blackwood reverse ). You mean set the Logitech control panel wotsit to 103% force and then set LFS to whatever feels right? Why 103% out of interest? I think I've got it 100% at the mo, which seems logical.
I'll try it some time, but I've got a dodgy shoulder at the moment!
I understand what you mean, col. I'm trying to think if the wheel jiggles over rumble strips in real life, or whether I'm just imagining it. Maybe more kerb noise would do the trick!
Points taken, gentlemen. I certainly do enjoy LFS very much, it's the best driving sim out there by a country mile. I'm just thinking that but if the kerbs are bumpy enough to make car vibrate visually, then surely I should be able to feel that vibration through the wheel. No? Maybe the ff motors aren't sensitive enough to render it.
Frex do a feedback cushion I believe. A vibrating cushion! The idea of it sounds rather perverse. I've also seen advertised force feedback headphones. Whatever next.
I've noticed that some people on various forums have said they can't feel kerbs and grass on LFS. I run FF at about 80 on my DFP and can feel them a bit. If I turn the FF up I can feel them more, but the steering becomes way too heavy. It would be good to be able to adjust the steerring weight and bump feedback separately, or at least move the emphasis a bit more towards feeling the rough stuff. It would also help on the Rallycross tracks which feel too smooth IMO.
(PS - If it's already possible and I'm just being a numpty, could someone please tell me how! )
So was mine, but it was in just the wrong place, so I took it off and replaced it with a suction cup one that I can put where I want. It's only fallen off once!
I didn't make it clear. You would also have to be able to adjust them so you could see people alongside, making up for the lack of peripheral vision afforded by a narrow FOV.
And on a slightly different note, options for door mirror placement would be handy. You could move them inside the car a bit, set a narrow field of view and still see what's going on around you.
Here's my setup if anyone wants to try it out. I'd be interested to to hear feedback. I saved a replay of my race but it came out at 1.85MB, so I'd better not post that. Can I make them smaller?
I'm going to try a few new setups today. Just downloaded the one posted above, and I've got the Easy Race setups that come from the Gear Ratio Calculator site (I think). I've had good luck with some of those on other cars.
OK, tried the Easy Race and didn't get on with that, so modded Biggi's set still further (reduced camber by about 50% and increased pressures, R2, R3 rear). Got a 1:34.6 with R2 rears, but they were burning after 5 laps. Changed to R3 rears and just did a 1:34.17.
Hi Shijouki. Thanks for alerting me to the delights of this car/track combo. I've only had the game a couple of months and have done most of my running on Blackwood. My fave cars are the FZR, LX4, UFR and RAC.
Had a quick blast round Westhill and like you got a bit stuck on 1:40s for a while. Downloaded the WR replay which opened my eyes a bit! Using a modified version of Biggi's Blackwood WR setup (fairly high downforce, just changed the gear ratios), and I'm currently down to mid 1:36s with AI managing to pull out the occasional 1:35, although I must confess to using the steering wheel shift paddles on my DFP. Having a great time! More to come.
I think the SR8 would be more than enough for me. And the version in this vid was in road-legal spec!!!!! Michael Vergers reckoned that slicks would have been 30sec faster!
Enjoy
PS. srdsprinter - what fps do you get with that setup?
I'm really getting into the RAC. At first I thought it was horrible, but get to know it and drive within its limits and it's brilliant. It does try to kill you if you take liberties or don't concentrate though! I use the setup from inferno (Colin Brown I think) and have set up my DFP wheel properly and it's great fun now.
Brilliant! Thanks Cue-Ball. Just tried this and it's improved the response a great deal. I've only tried it with the Raceabout so far, and I can't remember what its lock settings are, but it worked a treat and I can actually now catch a tail-slide (of the too-early, downshift-induced variety).
That would have been the SR9 LMP2 - full carbon chassis, 3.4-litre 550hp Judd V8, carbon brakes. SR8 is an "LMP3", spaceframe with a 2.6-litre motorcyle-derived V8 (twin Hayabusa blocks and heads on a Protec bottom end).
If Martin Short reckons it's the best handling car he's driven it must be pretty good. Decent amount of power without being beyond the skills the averagely talented driver. I'm sure Radical wouldn't mind cooperating.
OK, newbie question, what is considered an acceptable ping time? and how do I find out if my ISP is using packet shaping. I'm using Orange (formerly Wanadoo) with a wanadoo wireless box (but connected using an ethernet cable). Currently on a 2mbs connection but upgrading to 8 shortly.
