Quote from Viper93 :I am in =)

I will have my car by then too so if anyone needs a lift Oxford and south near the A34 let me know I could pick you up.

I'm in Oxford too....might take you up on that - if you're still offering?

I love this idea. I've always hated the whole setup business anyway. I know some people love the race-pit-tweak-race-pit-tweak game, but I just want to race on a level playing field.

Weeee! Had my first try at heel-toe this evening. I chose the LX6 to try it on. I think it's going to need a lot of practice but it's great fun and a new challenge. The LX6 is one hell of a car! We definately need some dedicated servers for this car.

Quote from BuddhaBing :all of my current best laptimes have been set using the new setup.

That is great to hear!!! I was worried that no matter how much I practice, I wouldn't be competetive with the auto clutch / paddle shifters.

Quote from Thorvertonian :For the road cars, I use clutch and shifter...

but for single seater and GTR cars, I use the clutch as my brake pedal and brake pedal as handbrake...

And have you noticed any change in your lap times?
realistic controls

So the G25 has been available for some time now and for most it will be the first time they've had the option of changing gear with a shifter and clutch. My question to the new G25 owners is - is this just a novelty, or are people really taking to the more realistic controls?

Do you have auto clutch disabled?
Are you slower now?
Is the shifter gathering dust because you've gone back to paddles?

Quote from Michael Denham :rFactor thread. rFactor vs LFS thread. These threads brought to you in part by the power of the search button

I know...forum faux pas!
rfactor...quick! close this thread!

Oh I know, sorry, I just couldn't resist posting, having just downloaded and tried rfactor for the first time......but......how does anybody ever even think of putting it in the same league as LFS? Never has a game been so quickly uninstalled from my PC, and never have I felt so relieved to fire up LFS and do a few laps.

Sorry for doubting LFS devs, I just had to know for sure!

Getting the new fox dashboard was like a receiving a great christmas present! There are a few other dash boards that could do with an overhaul. The UF1 dash and wing mirrors need the treatment.
correct z-value for mirrors
goode400
S2 licensed
Only really of interest to stereo 3d users but the z-value (depth) for the image in the mirrors is currently set to the position of the mirror. This means that the mirrors appear like little video screens that you 'look at' rather than mirrors that you 'look into'.

If this is easily fixable in a future release it would be most appreciated!

Quote from Vain :I tried the LX4 today for half an hour and I like it.
I'd like to join a proper series with the LX4, but I'm not willing to join yet another league that demands hours and hours of practice to be competitive.
What I'd love to see is a league that doesn't disclose the combo it'll run. At 19:30 GMT a 30 mins practice/quali-session opens, on 20:10 GMT a 20 minutes race starts, on 20:40 GMT a second 20 minutes race starts. That's 90 minutes time for one event.

Great idea!

Quote from AndroidXP :I guess you'd need some kind of fisheye rendering (example), or Scawen implements a feature to render three separate view angles and output them to different monitors. Both are rather resource hogging solutions.

That fisheye rendering looks interesting. Is it a quake mod or a seperate program that could be used with LFS?

Would your second option take a lot of doing?

Quote from Bob Smith :Realistically it's very difficult to create a flat display that fills 120 degrees of your vision. Displays which are intended to fill your vision are usually curved and LFS will look deformed on these as it assumes it is drawing to a flat 'window' into the game world.

Lots of people are talking about 3 monitor set ups. The current FOV options only allow for the monitors to be lined up as a flat display. So maybe there should be some kind of 'view distort' slider to allow for wrap around type displays.

Ah, ok, I did try running a local network game with two of the clients acting as left and right views in spectator mode. It worked but there was a jumpy lag effect on the left and right views which was pretty distracting. Also, I wouldn't be very welcome taking up three slots on busy MP servers!
120 degrees? why?
goode400
S2 licensed
Simple question. Why is the FOV limited to 120 degrees?
I love trying to dream up the ultimate race rig. The most obvious element would be 'total' FOV. i.e. all of your field of view filled with track and cockpit provided by a cave type set up (as used by some quake nuts). Is there some reason that the FOV is limited, or did the devs just think nobody would want to use more?

Quote from ZORER :Did you guys race yesterday on kyoto??? i checked for the server but only redline server was asclub/fox combo.

Yes, I raced it...and loved it...new track was like a breath of fresh air. Great to go back to shaving off whole seconds instead of 100ths!
goode400

it's not to do with which tracks IMO. It's all about how often they change. Everyones favourite would come around if the tracks changed every week.

Quote from Shotglass :dont lcd projectors emit polarized light aleady ? one shouldnt show anything at all unless youre using 45° polarizations

oh and btw do you know about how much light you lose in the polarization filters ?

I didn't know that. I believe the filters and glasses are polarized 45 degrees in opposite directions.

Not much light is lost but I don't know the figure in lumens.

Quote from RaceDoctor :
It's pretty clear that the RR Servers offer you some of the best racing fun you can get in LFS. The FOX usage is a factor on that. But over that the RR Servers (somehow) seem to be a regular stop for quality racers. Now there's the thing I want to shout now (for God's sake!).

Even my personal stats. show it. I've done over 300 laps on KY Oval, BL GP and AS Club. Bell rings? I mean racing itself is a fun but the RR servers are stuck. It's getting boring. It would be much better if the tracks are chaging on a regular, let's say week by week.

I agree. When I started on LFS, spdoracing server was the place where fox racers congregated. The track changed every week. It would be great if Redline would do the same.

Quote from thisnameistaken :I've Googled some more - are the filters about £500+ a pop too? And the screen... Has this setup cost you over £3000?

I wonder how it would look with a pair of ghetto Tom's Hardware OHPs and no filters...

No, my filters were not expensive. It seems that you can get very high quality ones but these do the job fine.
